Freddie Gibbs Explains Signing With Young Jeezy

Last week it was reported that Freddie Gibbs was in talks with Young Jeezy to sign to Jeezy’s Corporate Thugz Entertainment.

Saturday (April 9), the announcement was confirmed in Chicago, as Freddie Gibbs surprised his fans during his show by bringing out Jeezy. In an exclusive interview with DJ Smallz, Gibbs explained his rationale for signing with Jeezy’s Corporate Thugz Entertainment label.

“It’s always good to work with people that you respect,” Gibbs said. “I bump Jeezy and I think that he carved his own lane in the game, and that’s what I’m trying to do. What better way to elevate myself to the next level than doing it with somebody that I admire and respect? The situation with CTE—with Jeezy and Kinky B—it felt correct.

CTE’s lone major label project, Young Jeezy Presents U.S.D.A.: “Cold Summer:” The Authorized Mixtape was released in 2007 on CTE/Def Jam. But Jeezy has always had a strong touring presence due to his seemingly endless string of mixtape releases. Gibbs was courted by several other major labels, but he says the right opportunity never presented itself until now.

“Like I said, this was a long process for myself,” Gibbs added. “I just made the right decision and went with a gut feeling instead of just going off of impulse or signing with somebody because they’re hot. I ain’t wanna be a dick rider. I see a lot of that in the game, and I just wanted to do things my way.”

    1. Hmmmm, don’t know what to think of this, Jeezy ain’t hot anymore, I personally think MMG would have been a good place for Gibbs with all Ross’s production links etc. Still, only proof will be in the music released, hopefully we will get an album form Freddie this year.

    2. Seems to be a good look…

For Jeezy. I dont see the need for Gibbs to sign with a label ran by a rapper that apparently is in a slump right now. How many times has his album been pushed back? Exactly. Maybe there is more to the deal in the details but IMO this looks to be more beneficial to Jeezy.

    3. is this the same nigga dat wuz calling jmillz a sixman????? u just signed to a label dats not even poppn homie u should have just kept up your indie grind bra!! A TEAM IS ONLY AS GOOD AS ITS LEADER!!! AND JEEZY IS HELLA QUIET RITE NOW!! “DUMB DEAL”

    4. worst decision gibbs couldve made.

hes better than all of cte combined, if jeezy’ bad lyricism rubs off im done listening to gibbs

and WTF is happening to Pulled Over By the Cops now!?

    5. ummm JEEZY IN A SLUMP?..FUCOUTTAHERE..JEEZY dropped two ridiculous mixtapes last yr..TRAP OR DIE 2 AND THE LAST LAUGH..fuc yall been at..u nigz dont even listen to that type of shit..his shows still packed and his fanbase is very solid..what he is suffering from is a lack of promotion from his record label because LOSE MY MIND most definitely went hard in the club…LAMES SHOULD NOT SPEAK ON SHIT THEY NO NOTHING ABT..JEEZY IN A SLUMP..FUCOUTTAHERE

    6. damn bad move for gibbs, his album will never release now lol….to bad cuz i think he is one of the best up and coming rappers, jeezy just sucks now ever since he changed his voice up

      1. agreed, bad move from gibbs, jeezy is going no where and this is just a waste of time and money for gibbs

    7. AND GIBBS IS JUST WACK..PERIOD..NOBODY IN CHICAGO LISTEN TO THAT NIGGA..AND I DOUBT IF NIGZ IN GARY LISTEN TO THAT NIGGA EITHER

      1. Not sure where you’re from homie, but if it’s Chicago then get out from under the rock… I worked at one of the most successful recording studios in the ‘Go and hella people go on Gibbs— Embrace the concept

    8. man this is not gonna end good this shit is gonna be more fucked up then rakim’s deal with interscope.

    9. I know, look at kweli he’s only release SAS, Jay-z only rihanna but that’s because she’s alright be establish (yes she is sign with roc-nation check the website), and so forth. If I was an artist I’ll sign with a label who have been release their new artist recently, also talk to those artist just to make sure they are treated good.

    10. meh signing with young jeezy is in my opinion better than signing with young money or with maybach music. the two latter are just in it for milking the game and portraying false identities and pushing negativity in hip-hop. enter lil wayne and ricky ross.

    11. Signing to other artists always sounds like a good idea but almost always never works. G-Unit was the first rapper’s crew to have everyone’s first releases go Platinum. Then Young Money hit a slam with Drake and Nicki…. artist signed to Cash Money and Grand Hustle don’t seem to be doing too well.. I wonder what Jeezy is gonna do differently.
