Russ Gets Coached By Dr. Dre During ‘Dream’ Studio Session

Russ has put in his dues, and now it seems to be paying off — the rapper was recently spotted having a “dream” studio session with one of his most significant influences, Dr. Dre.

On Monday (June 26), the “What They Want” rapper shared some snaps of him in the studio with Dre. The collage post also shows the rapper stopping by the gym as well as attending former Apple creative director and record producer Larry Jackson’s wedding, where Timbaland and Swizz Beatz gave a thrilling performance.

Jackson was also present at the iconic studio session, along with Death Row co-founder Michael “Harry-O” Harris and Snoop Dogg.

    Check out Russ’s post below:

Russ seems to be getting co-signs from several OGs in the game, like Black Thought. The rapper was featured on The Roots musician’s joint album with Danger Mouse, Cheat Codes.

Along with Russ, the 13-track effort, which was released in August 2022, includes several additional features ranging from Joey Bada$$ and Raekwon to MF DOOM, among others.

The gap between generations is noticeable, especially when considering both Black Thought and Danger Mouse have been making music for decades. But there’s a meticulous process that goes into selecting artists for various collaborations, as Black Thought explained to HipHopDX in a Zoom interview last year.

“The songs dictate what cadence, what style of flow, and what vocal quality is going to be befitting,” Black Thought told DX. “Everybody can’t get on every record. So when you do a record in this space for someone else to hop on it, you definitely have who you want to hear in mind.

“There aren’t that many people you’re able to hear filling that slot if that makes any sense. So there’s only ever one or two, maybe three people that we even consider to feature on a specific record that there was an opening on.”

He added: “So it’s almost as if each of these songs that have features were pretty much created with, if not the specific person, close to it in mind.”

    1. Russ is wack AF. His flow is so boring and repetive and his voice is annoying AF. Don’t know why peeps sweet him? He must be a rich kid who buys all these features

      1. You fuck. Go spread your hate elsewhere ain’t no one got time for your shit. Is your life that pathetic?

    2. He must have bought the golden Dre VIP package smh. Dre be selling his appearance these days lol. Ain’t no tracks lol. It’s Comecon meeting with him. I hope Russ got a signed tshirt. Hmmm. Been quiet on the forefront about snoop log album. Ambrosia album went dead. This pattern is ridiculous. Dre fell off hard. Em, come get your drunk producing uncle lol that says he “still has it”

    3. Womanizer, heavily over-rated (gets credit from beats made by Daz, Mel Man Scott, Storch, etc) gay Dre ain’t been hitting since the early 2000s. 1000 studio pics later with 20 different “artists” has equaled zero new fire music. I said fire new music not that wack af Compton crap and that throwaway track GTA nonsense.

      1. Thank you. Compton wasn’t complete trash, but it was below average for Dre. It was comparable to his Aftermath debut “Dre Presents The Aftermath”. Totally lackluster album. Compton even sold like 250k it’s first week, yet it never caught on at all because most were disappointed. Dre seems to have a horrible ear for good sound nowadays. Everything he works on sounds sonically bad, over stuffed, scratchy, etc. Dres best work was great because it was smooth, hard, and good sounding. Even with Dre himself trying to rap like Kendrick, using a scratchy voice and sounding like a b1tch… like nah, you’re DRE. Rap with the monotone deep voice. Only song on all of Compton that felt like Dre was “Talking to my diary”. That beat, subject matter and all sounded like the Dre I wanna hear, but the song felt extremely cut short, would’ve made a better intro than a closer. And yeah, GTA tracks suck. The best thing Dre has done in the past 15 years was his two features on GKMC, where he rapped on the songs Compton and The Recipe.
