Just a few weeks after Jay-Z and Kanye West broke the first week sales record for iTunes with Watch the Throne, Lil Wayne accomplished the same feat with his latest album Tha Carter IV in just four days.
According to HHNM, Weezy has sold more than 300,000 copies of his latest offering since it hit the web on early Monday at midnight. In its first week, TC4 is now expected to move between 925,000 and 975,000 copies, whereas earlier estimates put the album between 850,000 and 900,000 units.
In its first week out, Watch the Throne broke Coldplay’s previous iTunes record for first week sales, moving roughly 290,000 copies.

So, if you’re in your mid to upper 30’s…resided anywhere from Texas to Florida and as far north as Tenn…chances are they’re buying his music as well. When you go back and listen, you’ll hear that he was actually pretty lyrical, which he solidified with “Lights Out” (my fav. Wayne album btw) and his SQAD UP mixtapes.
I used to hate on him for a little while around the time 500 Degreez came out b/c I thought he was disrespectful to Juvenile for the album title and I thought he was a bit cocky, but the quality of his music brought me right back around when Tha Carter came out! I bumped this album (streamed, thank God I didn’t purchase) and showed him corny stupid suspect lines that are littered throughout Tha Carter IV. All he and most fans of Weezy can say are sales, its as if mans defending the dude are making the money themselves.
Last time I checked, the amount of money or sales an artist had do not make an album more enjoyable to me.
Also, when your two best tracks on YOUR album don’t feature YOU, there’s a problem.

Honestly man, I’m all for respecting Wayne’s career. He’s to the point where he sells records and that’s good for him and his team. He’s got a strong following so that speaks for his ability to remain relevant for the long haul. HOWEVER, I have no clue where anyone can put up the argument that he is worth a comparison to Jay-Z. Every time I read articles, comments, and other media placing those two in the same weight class it truly disappoints me. Jay-Z and Nas are (for the most part) the last two relics of hip-hop’s greatest (and arguably most dangerous) era. Argue that 2Pac didn’t like neither one of them, but he did goes as far to acknowledge them – something I can’t see Wayne getting from Pac. Big was one of Jay-Z’s best friends (and Nas at one point too) so we don’t even need to do that. And honestly, Wayne is associated with a fake movement from the No Limit era – something you don’t hear anyone mention. Master P and the rest of No Limit had blueprinted and took to action exactly what Cash $ ended up doing; with the same roots to match (New Orleans). Like I said, I respect Wayne’s success – and from time to time he has shown his ability to be a great MC. But witty lines over enough time eventually end up boring and that’s the big reason most people don’t like Carter IV. This about the battle rap game – alive and well still huh? Wrong, because many people aren’t as impressed by that as much as they used to be. Funny, witty lines are only worth a short time of most people’s attention before they will ask someone to get serious and speak with substance. And as far as that Blood shit go – yeah, Pac would’ve cut that shit out – as far as “on wax” goes – if he was still around; pussy movements really. I’m waiting for our young generation to grow up and acknowledge that there is a time when your mind wants to get more from their appetite for hip-hop than Wayne has been dishing out. Best of luck to all artists – get money regardless. But never expect to have a bulletproof legacy if what you do isn’t bulletproof to begin with (kissing old men in the mouth, wearing tights, skater/rocker front, etc.). I am a fan of Weezy and Jay. Been a fan since the Juvey/Hot Boys days; and Reasonable Doubt era. This album may have sold a lot, but it was kind of like a 1st round bust. I had high expectations and I was disappointed. Like 50 Cent, it seems like Wayne is only at his best on mixtapes and guest apperances. I Am Not a Human Being is just slightly behind this offering. Not the classic I was expecting. Watch the Throne is not a classic either, but at least there was creativity and serious thought behind the concept of the album-nothing else out like it, which made it a great album. Carter IV is just good…after all the hype, that is unacceptable…especially with the flashes of greatness I have seen in his previous work.

The albums pretty good and I was a juvenile fan, not a lil wayne fan. I didn’t see what the big deal was about c3, his mixtapes, etc., I mean i liked parts of the album with GO DJ but didn’t really like fireman.
