Chaka Zulu, Ludacris’ longtime manager and co-founder of Disturbing Tha Peace Records, was one of the victims of a triple shooting in Atlanta on Sunday night (June 26). The incident took place in the parking lot of a Buckhead area restaurant and claimed the life of 23-year-old Artez Benton.
Zulu and another man were rushed to the hospital and underwent emergency surgery. Now, there’s an update. According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, it looks like the veteran music executive is going to pull through. In a statement to Channel 2, former Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed revealed Zulu was stable.
“We are fortunate to report that Chaka Zulu is in stable condition and recovering,” Reed said. “The family thanks everyone for their well wishes and prayers, and asks for their privacy at this time.”
Investigators have been combing through surveillance footage captured near the Peachtree Road establishment but have yet to make any arrests.
Police Lt. Germain Dearlove told said the shooting was the “result of a dispute in the parking lot,” but he didn’t say if the three victims had visited any of the businesses before the gunfire rang out around 11:35 p.m. It was the second deadly shooting reported in Atlanta on Sunday night.

Just hours earlier, two women were shot at a Subway restaurant on Northside Drive after they argued with a customer over the amount of mayonnaise on his sandwich. One woman, identified by the medical examiner’s office as 26-year-old Brittany Macon, was killed, and the other was taken into surgery at a nearby hospital. She was listed in critical condition Monday.
