Most people refer to this time of the year as the “slow” period. While we settle into the First Quarter, things don’t start to really warm up until the Spring. That’s the assumption, at least. Looking at this list of singles, one would definitely think otherwise, as some of Hip Hop’s most prominent figures are back at it, reminding us of why we care about them. Perhaps that’s the beauty of Hip Hop in general: artists working overtime to keep their names fresh in our minds. It’s the work ethic most recently perfected by Lil Wayne; he’s not on the list this week, but plenty of other people are. It’s good to know that when the rest of the music world is technically sleeping, rappers are wide awake.
Meek Mill Sits On Top, Nicki Minaj Is Back On the Scene
Meek Mill had quite a week. The MMG young stalwart reached the #1 spot with “Errrday.” His bawse Rick Ross was tacked on as a feature, so most would assume that was the reason why he landed on the list. That’s obviously not the case, though, considering Meek showed up at #8 too with “Audemar.”
Meanwhile last week’s #1 stunner Big K.R.I.T. just missed a camero appearance. In other news, after being overshadowed by M.I.A.’s middle finger while performing “Give Me All Your Luvin”
at the Super Bowl, Nicki Minaj dropped the single “Marilyn Monroe”
at #5. The Nickster is back at it. At #10 this week? Odd Future member Earl Sweatshirt’s re-entrance song, “Home”
.
J.Cole Makes a Hit Out of a Cameo, Trae Tha Truth Has a Party of Ten
For some strange reason, on HipHopDX, J.Cole’s name is like an automatic guarantee that people will listen to a song. This week proves that as 360’s collab with J.Cole “What Goes Up” hit at #7. No dis to 360, but the chances of making the Top Singles list sans Cole were probably slim. What wasn’t slim this week was Trae Tha Truth’s “I’m On 2.0”
at #4. Check the list: Big K.R.I.T., Jadakiss, J.Cole, Kendrick Lamar, B.o.B., Tyga, Gudda Gudda, Bun B, and Mark Morrison. Did you double check that list? Your name might be on there since there were so many people a part of that mix. That track marks the second time J.Cole got on the list.

wow…I hope you are seriously reciting somebodys lyrics, because this is some hot garbage right here. Stay in school.
Despite getting attention from MTV’s site for the music video; Tech N9ne, B.O.B. & Hopsin’s “Am I A Psycho?” song isn’t within the top 10 hip hop singles??? Kind of sad.
I’m laughing my ass off because normally these underground fans always say “OH fuck billboard sales/mtv/BET whatever mainstream, it’s all about lyrics” and here you support a underground cult rapper (Tech N9ne is no different from ICP fanbase), a pop rapper (B.o.B is like Drake & Kid Cudi wearing skinny jeans and appeal to teenage suburban kids) and some internet rapper (Hopsin is an Eminem wannabe only loners and atheists listen too). Now you want them on MTV and sellout like Young Money or Maybach Music? Listen to real music like 2pac or Michael Jackson not those talentless hacks.
the idiocy of STFU knows no limits
