It looks Drake isn’t the only person living the #YOLO life – nearly half a million illegal music downloaders are, too. In a recent report from Spin, it turns out the Drizzy’s single “The Motto” is the most illegally downloaded single in the States.
A report polling the most music pirating-friendly countries recently revealed that the YMCMB rapper’s single from last year’s Take Care is the most illegally downloaded songs in the USA. The song was illegally downloaded 458,038 times during the study’s six month tracking period.
Drake wasn’t the only superstar to rank at number one on this list. The report also indicates that Jay-Z and Kanye West’s Watch the Throne ranked at number one as the most downloaded LP in the US (71,132 illegal downloads), while Rihanna’s Talk That Talk was the most downloaded LP worldwide (1,228,313 illegal downloads).
Ironically, all three aforementioned albums have been certified platinum by the RIAA and other agencies in various countries.

So commercial fans don’t support always huh
you know damn well fake ass hip hop heads are the biggest closet fans who illegally doiwnload even their favorite artists music
no they dont buy shit you can tell when a album is reviewd that didnt even drop yet and they talking shit about it this site is known for that
^^^cruel summer
im glad i got cruel summer off pirate bay cause it sucked it saved me $18
It’s only $9.99
I bought the album but was pissed “The Motto” wasn’t on it. So I can see why it was pirated so much.
“it’s only 9.99
Depends on where you live
THEY MUST NOT HAVE CHECKED OUT TJAY848 !!!! HIS MUSIC WILL MAKE YOU WANNA GO BUY IT !!!!!! TRUST ME !!!! YOUTUBE: iamtjay848 AND SEE FOR YOURSELF !!!!
So, they can track every single illegal download? Yes it’s true. Don’t be surprised when they come and take you away in the middle of the night. That’s kinda overboard but you should get the gist of it
yeah they just count the number where the file says how many times its been downloaded
^It goes deeper than that homie. They store IP addresses also they can track it back to you like your ISP does when you download something copyrighted and they send you a notice. Only reason the ISP don’t fully enforce the law is beacause they’ll go outta business if they terminated every customer that pirates
that’s not ironic at all clown
as much as i hate drake, this is terrible…i think that the internet and computers are going to be the death of music…not only do people just download music instead of buying it these days, but lame ass muthafuckers go on the computer and think they can actually make music themselves…its sad…thats why i respect groups like the roots, mayday!, and heiruspecs a hell of a lot more then any other group out there right now, they actually have skill and use instrumentaion instead of downloading a beat, hooking up your mic, and thinking your good…fuck all these wannabees, shit i would much rather have a physical copy of an album over some illegal shit you slap on your ipod…2012 is a sad generation, maybe we are all doomed
yo i luv u wats ur #
Every rapper alive has producers send them beats and they just download it and hook up their mic and lay down the vocals. That’s what mixtapesare for and I think those have been great trend, I love getting full length albums from legit arists for free. Have you ever heard a Mayday, Roots, or heiruspecs mixtape?
Probably because the suckers that bought the album only later realized it was some exclusive itunes song level song.
I had download it illegally because it wasn’t on my illegal download of the cd.
If he got more money than me I’m gonna steal his music.
Well then, sounds like you’re gonna pirate EVERYONE’S music. lol
YOLO
These pirates have bad taste.
pirating is good, it’s like borrowing someones video game if you like it youll go out and buy it if not youll give it back or you can just keep the game and avoid your friend
that don’t make sense b. When have you ever downloaded an album and then said “Oh well I like it lemme pay $15 for some shit thats already on my ipod.”
That’s why niggaz like you stay broke.
i download first then buy.. and im not broke. People who are broke are the ones who dont buy the album.. common sense but i guess you wernt blessed with that
makes sense, although with all of these streaming services and youtube, there is no need to pirate for that reason anymore
lol @ just keep the game and avoid your friend.
Never heard it..
then you must live under a rock
THOSE NUMBERS DON’T SOUND RIGHT…
OF THOSE NUMBERS ARE RIGHT, THEN THE INDUSTRY CAN’T BLAME ILLEGAL DOWNLOADS FOR POOR RECORD SALES!
i agree, and half a million downloads isnt that much.. albums even sell 500k sometimes (in the states)
Not ironic.
lol word it isn’t. it’s common sense. The highest selling shit also gets stolen the most.
so if you sell the most you get pirated the most. Makes sense.
that’s the point I’ve always said. Pirating happens across the board. There are more pirates of mainstream artist due to the fact that they are more visible. (i.e. more people know about them) Not to say it doesn’t happen to independent artists, but let’s not pretend everyone that likes let’s say Rick Ross, is buying the music.
Funny thing about it is..people download it, discuss it on facebook, twitter..places like this…etc… and it creates more of a buzz.
follow @noles506
ha these #s are way lowball.
I seriously doubt these numbers. only 71.000 for WTT ? So why is the music industry blaming downloads for poor sales? And where did Spin get all these phony numbers from? Cus I dont think they got the resources to track down every single download.
You might account for all the sharing and torrents but what about the drop boxes emails, bootlegs and bluetooths etc.
Nah, this is only a six months study (maybe the last six months?)…. remember WTT is a year old… had they done the study when it was first released it would have been more downloads (my guess)
Well that is only for the US and I am pretty sure there are plenty of other websites that go undiscovered…I actually been on a couple to download the album personally…
If these numbers are right less than 2 million people have a copy of the Watch the Throne album… these numbers are not right.
but RIAA certification is for albums that are shipped out, not necessarily sold
Who give a GOD DAMN fuck?? they still rich im gonna download music anyway
Drakes gay… End of story. Stop dickriding a rag.
Its cause its an itunes single and isn’t on the album.
watch the throne best album of last year
hell fucking no.
This only proves that no one wants to spend money on it!
“You Only Live Once” lets pirate some music!
i illegally downloaded my copy of The Motto, i aint gonna front.
damn, fuk drake fuk ymcma fuk gay z!! y’all aint shit!! if Ja Rule didnt gotta go to jail, you’ll gotta pay homage and kneel to Ja!! fuk nikkaz!! JA STILL OWNS THIS SHIT!! IT’S MURRDDAAAAA!!!
f*ck your life because you a lame, so please be quiet.
I buy all my music (CDs/Singles), I have like $3000 in CDs alone. Supporting my favorite artists is only half of it though. I use to download like 6 or 7 years ago, but got really fed up with the quality of it. DJ screams, clean lyrics, songs cutting out halfway through, I hated all of that. An average song on Itunes is like what, $1.29? That’s like the price of a bag of chips or whatever. And you’ll have it for life. It’s a no brainer for me. Buying is the way to go.
Sorry darling, but you are stupid.
fuck paying for digital copies. i’ll buy cds cause its a collection.
cosign. I buy all my shit too.
“i illegally downloaded my copy of The Motto”
Drake is very disappointed in you.
No shit. I download shit illegally since 2001. And so does the rest of the world, so don’t act like this is some new shit
Cosign.
I wouldn’t even illegally download any of Drake’s music. Its garbage.
New York Stand Up….Real Hip Hop
LMAO who the fuck still pays for music today?!?! This ain’t 1999 LOL plus artists never made their money off of record sales, they make money by touring.
How do you know all of that? Are you an industry nigga??? Huh? Answer me!
A CD is like what, $25,00??? That’s like my water bills lol
“Funny thing about it is..people download it, discuss it on facebook, twitter..places like this…etc… and it creates more of a buzz”
^ a buzz does not equal sales, it has been said over and over again
“so if you sell the most you get pirated the most. Makes sense”
^ this is asinine. someone who doesn’t sell a lot will be pirated too.
“plus artists never made their money off of record sales”
Actually, for the longest time they did. CD’s are hella cheap these days. You mean to tell me you can’t part with ten bucks, maybe twelve tops for a deluxe edition instead of bootlegging like a broke bitch?
“they still rich im gonna download music anyway”
That’s amazing logic.
“pirating is good, it’s like borrowing someones video game if you like it youll go out and buy it”
But the people who are pirating music, movies and video games aren’t then going out and buying them. In some ways, music shouldn’t be that big of a deal. Most of the artists who have a problem with bootlegging are beyond rich anyway. What the fuck do they care if someone burns one of their albums? They should take it as a compliment. On the other hand, movies shouldn’t be pirated. Alot of people who help make these blockbuster movies get paid jack shit, so when you steal the movie, it’s like you’re pissing on them for providing you with entertainment.
“It’s only 9.99”
Out here it’s $25,00.
I was expecting illegal numbers to be a little more impressive than that lol..learn something new everyday.
