Lupe Fiasco “Food & Liquor 2: Great American Rap Album Pt. 1” First Week Sales Projection

The first week sales projection for Lupe Fiasco’s Food & Liquor 2: Great American Rap Album Pt. 1 has been revealed.

According to Hits Daily Double, Lu’s latest is slated to sell between 85,000 and 95,000. The projection is noticeably soft compared to the first week sales of 2011’s Lasers, which bowed atop the Billboard 200 with 204,000 copies sold. His prior album, The Cool, sold 143,407 copies in its first week, while his debut Food & Liquor moved 81,000 units in the same timeframe.

The low sales will put the LP behind Mumford & Sons, whose new album Babel will top the charts with 575,000 to 625,000 units sold. Green Day’s Uno will sell between 150,000 and 175,000, while No Doubt’s Push and Shove will sell between 120,000 and 125,000.

    1. I wonder who this douche will point at & blame this time. He cried last time Atlantic wouldn’t let him do his own thing, they stepped back and let him run his own shit for this one, I’m sure he’ll have someone to blame for the poor performance. He’s one of those “Its always somebody else’s fault”-type people

    2. Disappointing, only because I wish more people would pay attention to the album because it’s got some important things to say and the music is good. Oh well, maybe they’ve downloaded it and it’s still getting some listens.

      1. stop getting your knowledge from music and go to school or open a book. When I listen to music I want to hear that trap shit

      2. There’s nothing ignorant about someone wanting entertainment from their music rather than being lectured. Like he said that’s what books are for

      3. FOH clown. All I said was it’s nothing ignorant about someone not wanting to be lectured through music. Not that there was anything wrong with it. You are the ignorant/close-minded one for calling someone else ignorant only for preferring their choice of music be entertaining and not lecturing. Kill yourself you’re not smart enough to be calling other’s ignorant.

      4. Whether it’s positive or negative. At the end of the day, music is just entertainment. If you really want to learn something take your ass to school or pick up a book. Why do people want to learn anything from a fucking rapper?

      5. Positve/Negative has nothing to do with whether it’s entertaining or not. Lupe Fiasco is not entertaining. It’s educational, but not entertaining. Jay Elect does a much better job at merging the two. You gotta give the dummies a spoonful of sugar. Fiasco refuses to do so

      6. Maybe Lupe doesn’t want to satisfy you niggas. You want entertainment, fine. But don’t presume its all entertainment. Hip-hop was created not just to party, but to send a message. That’s something you trap niggas should know.

      7. Hey idiot, no one said that. The discussion was calling people who preferred entertainment over being lectured ignorant is ignorant. That’s it. Some people actually read and don’t need a rapper to tell them shit. Which would make this album useless to them because it has ZERO entertainment appeal.

      8. We get it. You like 2Chainz, Waka Flocka, and all of other wack rappers talking about bitches and money. BTW, Lupe is entertaining in his own way. It’s not lecture; its called being a CONSCIOUS RAPPER!! Get it through your thick skulls.

    3. I was thinking 130-150 since he’s got a large fanbase and his last album did 200,000 first week but man not even 100,000??

      1. Why would it wrong? Lupe Fiasco is not for anybody … it takes certain intelligence and affiliation for artistic values regardless if you agree with the stuff his saying. He is a real artist, not just by name, but by concepts, visions, execution and message. If you don’t like that its fine, but around 90k first week is excellent for a project like that.

    4. Of course these are only predictions but i kinda expected somewhere between 120 000 – 140 000

But if this is correct this why i think these numbers are like this:

      1. lack of promotion – we all Atlantic and Lupe have beef so im sure the label didnt promote it.

      2. Controversy – from Pete Rock to Obama. lupe kept making headlines for the wrong reason. a little controvesy is fine but i feel Lupe over did it

      3. Lack of enthusiasm – The singles he released weren’t really exciting, i mean they were good but listening to the album it sounds like lupe jus wants to hurry up finish his atlantic contract. His first 2 albums were full of creativity and concepts and he sounded like he enjoyed making those albums

      just my guess

      1. Cruel Summer did 217K, this site predicted 175-190K, then erroneously only posted 206K. Then on top of that it’s not really their predictions the only thing this site does is sit back and wait for other sites to post things then they just copy & paste

      2. Yea DX gets ZERO exclusives they just post other sites shit.(interviews, videos, album predictions, etc, EVERYTHING). This site is like the very last to post shit

    5. You know I really considered this guy my favorite rapper. But I have to admit that even I’m getting fed up with his complainig and theatrics. I might still cop the album because his lyrics will always be on point. But… I just don’t look at him like I use to. I feel alot of other people are feeling the same way.

      1. ya i know what you mean im also kind fed up. The worst was the Pete Rock incident, the way he handle it was dissapointing

Its like theres 2 Lupe’s or something

      2. Lupe was pretty dope when he first dropped in my opinion. & continued to be for some time after that. But now he comes across as a cornball.

    6. This kinda album would never do big numbers which is why Atlantic or any major will hesitate to do it. It don’t make business sense. Good album though.

      1. oh fuck off i wasnt comparing subject matter not quality. typical over sensitive pac fan acting like speaking his name is blasphemy

      2. Don’t get your panties in a bunch. It’s a legitimate response. They’re not comparable in any way, shape,or form. Find someone else to compare him with to make your point because putting him in the same breath/sentence as Pac makes you both look dumb af.

      3. Arrested Development went double platinum…then got dropped cause they were too conscious…even though they went DOUBLE PLATINUM.

    7. Do you guys think that the all black album cover may have affected this possible numbers?

I mean maybe the all black cover caused people to overlook the album or not know it was a Lupe album

    8. this is a shame, the album is too nice. Can’t believe that the bullshit that was Lasers sold more than this…oh wait, I can. The record label actually gave Lupe substantial promotion for it because he gave in to them, with F&L II, I’ve only seen a total of like 4 commercials on BET only…still a dope album.

    9. doesn’t have the mass appeal that Lasers did, but it is def a good return to true hiphop. It’s great that Lupe can please the record company with a big-selling album and also please the true hiphop fans with something for the mind.

      1. How is going gold or barely going gold a big selling album? And if that is big selling to you then what do you think about Eminem’s numbers?

      2. a bunch of nobodies bashing an artist who’s done more with there life than they ever will is so sad. so many of you lames need stay off of your parents desktop computer

      3. @da1 you sound like an idiot man. Records don’t sell nowadays, going gold is basically platinum in this day and age. Lupe’s last 2 albums have went gold. Only a handful of rappers can still manage to get a platinum album.

    10. back the fuck up motherfuckers
sure it’s numbers are not a huge success for every album but 100 k for this kind of concept is a success (not so huge)
lol hiphop is nooooooooot selling , what the fuck u expect ?? SH did 50 k even Nas with all that YM and MMG dickriding only did 150k what the fuck u expect ???
but damn its a shame 2chainz sold more

    11. Gave up on this dude when he sold out with that Lasers album. Didn’t listen to this album to be honest, and I didn’t need to. I seen his main singles were about lamborginhis and bad bitches, I don’t care to listen to that. His ‘Lupe Fiasco Is Cool’ album was his last decent effort. He hasn’t really had messages in his songs since. I think the reason behind him growing out his hair was a subconscious defense mechanism to combat the fact that he knew his career was being cut short. He can’t even go Gold and that’s why Atlantis Records takes forever to put his shit out. His album cover symbolizes the emptiness and lack of message in his lyrics nowadays. He thought he’d sell records by pretending to be a skateboarder (and failed) and now he tries to act political to sell records. I see right through him, but I wouldn’t expect much from a album called Food & Liquor

      1. So you’re saying Lupe doesn’t have a message anymore, yet you haven’t even listened to Lamborghini Angels & Bitch Bad? Weird.

      2. Hahahahaha! Either youre trolling or youre just plain stupid. “Lamborghini Angels” is about war and religion. “Bitch Bad” is about misogyny in the hip-hop culture and the use of the word “bitch”. You dont even have to be that smart to get it. So yes, you did need to listen to the album. smh

    12. Lupe Put out a good hip hop album, Homeboy didnt sell out this time so who cares?, He’s also up against super healthy competition From Big time up and Comers(Mumford & Sons) and worldwide legends (Greenday & No Doubt), he’s still gonna sell more better than alot of hip-hop acts this year.

    13. This album has Lupe moving in the right direction again. I personally wish he would get off religion or politics or at least disguise the message a little bit more creatively like legendary musicians used to back in the day. Overall though this album has a little something for everyone.

    14. The one track that always helps me try to understand Lupe is ‘Put You On Game’. That whole song shows me that he is more than the numbers, he is after activism and doing something more with rap. And quite frankly i think any way that he regains creative control over his music is more important than any sales numbers, cos he is still one of the few rappers that when he says something i listen up.

    15. Here it is folks LOL record companies are extremely evil. They promoted Lasers just to prove Lupe wrong so it doubled up this album. Lup is good for 100k first week sales as the norm but they really wanted to show him that the machine can even generate a fake fan base. Look what interscope did for 50 and look at 50 without the machine behind him

    16. I expected not even close to 100k to be honest, not bad at all for a conceptual.. highly-opinionated album

Atlantic records could’ve low balled him even more like Kid Cudi’s label did with his WZRD project.

consider that 80% of the people who bought the album are hip-hop heads who dig conscious rappers.. there was no hit record in this, no chart-topping single.. just straight conscious spittin’… didn’t Nas do 150-200k? not a bad shout

    17. Wow, I really thought Lupe had a loyal fan base a lot bigger than these projections. I guess his fans like to download too.

Some folk rock band I’ve never heard of is about to do well over gold in its first week. Mainstream hip hop truly has two feet in the grave right now. Its relevance continues to fade. Only garbage rap is hitting the airwaves. Besides three or four artists, being on a major label is not worth it at all. Lu needs to play it smart and go indy once his contract is up.

      1. A line in the first song he said “I can’t pledge alligence to your flag, cause i can’t find reconciliation with your past, when there was nothing equal for my people in your math you forced us in the ghetto in then you took our dads.” and that was only the opening line and he said i pray the ugly truth should shatter your decour hoping for it’s destruction
