Jurassic 5 co-founder Chali 2na has also established himself as a painter. The Chicago, Illinois native who caught fame in the early 1990s Los Angeles underground Hip Hop scene with Jurassic 5 will take his fine arts talents to exhibition tonight (February 15) in L.A.’s Mr. MusicHead Gallery. His portraits have included musicians such as James Brown, and the below piece:
The former Interscope Records artist has released a series of solo full-lengths, EPs and free projects since the break-up of J5 in 2007. The group which also includes Cut Chemist, DJ Nu-Mark and Mark7, recently announced a reunion courtesy of 2013’s Coachella lineup.
Last year, 2na released Against The Current, an EP. The rapper also teamed with former Stones Throw Records artist Roc C to form Ron Artiste. The pair dropped their first collaborative full-length in 2012.
Other Hip Hop personalities that have built careers in painting include Fab 5 Freddy and DJ Kay Slay.
