Da Brat Thinks Parents Of R. Kelly’s Alleged Victims “Need To Take Responsibility”

Da Brat was stopped by TMZ at the Trumpet Awards in Atlanta on Saturday (January 19). Just like Yo-Yo, the longtime rapper was asked about the R. Kelly situation.

While she was certain the R&B star needed some kind of mental help, the So So Def vet insinuated the parents were partially to blame for allowing their child to be exposed to Kelly.

“I do think he needs help,” she says. “I love him. I grew up with him. He’s kinda like family. We had the same music teacher. We were around the same circles as kids. I’ve never seen him do anything bad, but I don’t believe all these people are lying.

“But at the same time, ‘Where are the parents?’ So, I think he needs help for sure. I love him. I hope he don’t get mad at me and I think the parents need to take responsibility. Where is your 14-year-old child? Why are you there? Something wrong with that.”

Da Brat also insists she will always listen to Kelly’s music despite the numerous allegations against him.

“I can’t stop listening to the music,” she says. “Never will I stop listening to it. I might not buy it no more, but it’s already in my playlist.”

Kelly has been under heavy scrutiny since Lifetime aired its premiere episode of Surviving R. Kelly earlier this month. The six-part documentary explored his inappropriate sexual behavior around underaged women and featured several interviews with his alleged victims.

In the wake of the series, Kelly and his longtime label, Sony Music, have agreed to part ways.

    1. The fact that R.Kelly was supposedly driving up to a high school in Chicago to scope out the girls should have prompted adults to come forward and parents that saw that shit while they were picking up their teens from school. Many adults said they knew he was cruising by. Wtf did they think he wanted? Being star struck will get you what you got now: this big ass mess. The parents , the principal, vice principal, school police….all these people should have stopped this. As for the concerts, parents should listen to the music their kids are buying up and listening to. Screen their phones, etc and take charge, damn it. Don’t let them go see sexual charged up music meant for adults.

    2. Yep. At the end of the day, predators look for the homes they can get away with this shit, and if you raised your daughter to be hot in the ass young, that’s what it’s going to be, if it was Kels or the 25 year old with the car that they met and gave their number to. Like when you’re underage, how your parents don’t know where you’re at. I know where mine are all of the time. I see these parents negotiating with their kids and shit like they make the rules or some shit.

    3. It’s about time for people to speak their real minds this is what these folks really need to hear. They’re accountable too. Period. R Kelly isn’t someone who you’d want to deal with, unless you’re in it for a purpose as well.

      1. Yep, because no way do white people have this problem.

True story. White girl I used to kick it with in college told me the deacon at their church used to fuck the shit out of her, her brother, and all kinds of other little kids when she was like 8 or 9 or some shit. I also have a cousin with an ex who was white whose father used to fuck the shit out of her until she was like 16 or 17. Know who knew about it? The white families they grew up in and pretty much the whole community around them.

So stop acting ignorant like it’s just black families. This shit goes on because of bad parents and family members looking the other way, and it goes down in all races, all income levels, and all social standings.

    4. If she is ok with blaming black victims “these underage women ” instead of the actual adult (robert Kelly) then I dont want to here her, or anyone else complain about police brutality to young black kids. You cant be kids on one end and then make them adults on the other. R. Kelly is A GROWN MAN! Parents or not HE needs to be held accountable for his actions just like racist police officers. This issue is layed at the feet of R Kelly and R Kelly alone. Shes wrong on this one. But once again black folks cant sacrifice doing the right thing for our own selfish gain.
