Diddy Thinks There Are Too Many Rappers

Diddy expressed some skepticism regarding Hip Hop’s current path in a video uploaded to Instagram on Tuesday (February 27).

For roughly one minute, Diddy spoke on the surplus of people who want to be rappers. In his message to the masses, Diddy explained he’s not trying to deter anyone’s goals, but he’s leery of the culture becoming “diluted.”

“So many people rapping right now,” Diddy said. “It is literally like too much. It’s a lot to take in every day. Everybody saying the same shit in different ways. These are just my opinions. I’m not knocking nobody’s dream. I just don’t want the culture to get diluted, you know? Where it gets so mass produced it doesn’t mean anything.”

Diddy also encouraged artists to be extraordinary in order to avoid being part of the “noise.”

“Artists have to be special,” he said. “Every artist has to be unique in their own right. I’m just trying to say I guess if you gonna be in this game, be great because you can also be part of the noise.”

    1. I agree hes right, That’s why to find good music you have to filter through alot of crap. This is the worst generation of hip hop easily.

      1. I’ve found a lot of great unsigned rappers/singers organically just playing around Youtube & Soundcloud. He’s correct with his statement, the labels are the main culprits because they’re follow Master P’s distrbution strategy.

    2. Funny he says this shit when his sons are so-called rappers lol….set yall lil ass down and become baby executives or something! lmao

    3. FACTS!!! I totally Agree with him. There is still some rappers I never heard of…. Every new rapper coming out of no where have names that begins with Lil’…….. Something. Again like diddy said not knocking nobody’s hustle, but its the truth.

    4. “Arist needs to be special”. Coming from a Rapper who cant write and a producer who sampled hitsongs to make a hitsong most of the time. SMFH Diddy exploited more Artist and Vultured mored than anybody else did

      1. Hahaha, those DX suckas deleted my comment which wasn’t really that different from yours, except i was naming a few artist names…. but you right, Diddy is a hypocrite.

      2. agreed, but Puff being an “artist” has never been his MAIN profession. its like a side thing that has helped keep him fairly relevant throughout the decades, putting out a project every so often (obviously with lots of help from writers, artists, producers). and as far as production, its more of a thing he keeps his name attached to for business or other reasons.

    7. I feel Diddy on what he is saying the culture has broadened to a very high capacity. On another note though when we begin to put limitations on what actually has no limitation is when we start to believe that too much is really too much. There will never be enough entertainers in general truthfully no source of entertainment will ever be diluted as long as the people continue to populate and continue to become entertained. There are 80 million different styles of art although some of us may begin to become bored with certain styles where as others may become intrigued with different styles.

    8. LMAO! coming from a man who can’t even rap… or better yet… prolly destroyed hip hop in the early 00’s…. Puffy just do what you do bro.

    9. Rap has become a global juggernaut genre so instead of kids playing in bands everyone produces and raps. Add the internet and that’s where the dilution comes from

    10. Come on people. Sean Combs only cares about himself and his kids who he desperately keep trying to make famous. Do Not Believe Combs hype — never will there ever be “Too many rappers”. Combs who came from the street was allowed opportunity to make millions with having little talent — now he wants to block others. What has Combs honestly done to make someone (other than himself and family) successful?????

    11. He does understand that his generation is responsible for this right? I was there, Hiphop was given away to corporate America based on the perception of racism. Hiphop wanted the same treatment as “white” music…guess what? This is what that looks like. The culture of Hiphop could never survive being mainstream America, but the business of Hiphop fits the mold very well
