The Top 10 Hip Hop Singles & Videos Of The Week: The Notorious B.I.G., Uncle Murda & Dave East

This week, Justin Hunte explains why The Notorious B.I.G. shouldn’t be considered the GOAT. Elsewhere, Uncle Murda does a recap of rap’s craziest moments in 2016 and Dave East makes an appearance on BET’s Being Mary Jane.

    Biggie Is NOT The GOAT

In this week’s Breakdown, Justin Hunte gives a compelling argument about why Biggie can’t be the GOAT. The notion has ruffled feathers on social media with some agreeing, thanking him for saying what many were already thinking while others still hold Christopher Wallace as their favorite MC.

Check out the argument on The Breakdown below.

Uncle Murda Goes Over Rap In 2016

Uncle Murda cleverly delivers a recap of 2016’s craziest moments with his “Rap Up 2016″ freestyle, over production from Reefa and Teddy Da Don. He touches on Meek Mill/The Game’s beef, Troy Ave’s shooting, Kanye West’s hospitalization, Donald Trump’s victory and Gucci Mane’s release from prison.

Dave East Stars In “Being Mary Jane”

Dave East stars in the premiere episode of Being Mary Jane, which begins on January 10 at 9P/8C on BET. Mary Jane Paul, played by Gabrielle Union, starts a new gig in NYC on Great Day USA and gets to interview East for his first assignment. 1. sorry but the biggie analysis is flawed. Consistency is key and Biggie has a smaller catalogue but it’s so good, who cares. Biggie has maybe 1 or 2 bad verses in his entire catalogue. every song by Biggie, he just kills the verse – his flow, lyrics and most importantly, how he rides the beat perfectly is unlike anyone in hiphop ever. And he doesn’t need to be political conscious. he has the versatality of gangster songs, club songs, introspective songs…He invented the model that Jay-Z exploited. The only MCs that come close as far as skill (combined flow, lyricism, riding the beat) and consistency is either Drake or Jay-Z. mentioning Kendrick is flawed IMO…he is great but an example of a too one-dimensional artists which is always playing one lane. I love his music but what makes him lacking is he doesn’t have the versitality to make club bangers or songs u geniuely want to listen to when you aren’t being deep. And he rides the beat with too many words no one even remembers so it doesn’t have the same quotable quality and impact. kendrick has so many forgettable features. think about it…does 2Pac, Biggie, Jay-Z and Drake have so many forgettable features? they don’t. every time those artists are on a track with someone else, they either own it or of close to equal value. Biggie invented the model that’s jay-Z, Kanye and Drake have been riding so He is GOAT

      1. I understand your point but disagree. His music is grossly one dimentional as mentioned by Hunte…my example; its like comparing a well written script and plot in shows like the wire or true detective(with woody) to empire or power….there is no comparison in terms of profoundness of what other artists have offered like scarface 2pac DMX etc. Ive always like biggie but hes never been my goat

    2. biggie greatest rapper alive to me only afew can almost his rhymes Kendrick.jayz.drake. let’s
not 4 get the rap god himself EMINEM

      1. Drake? Biggie was a true mc. Drake is a rapper/pop singer who uses ghost writers lol he didn’t come up like Biggie did battling niggas, and if he did where the vids at? Eminem got freestyles for days, that’s how you know he can really spit. Drake is not built like that lol he got challenged to battle rap on smack tv and bitched out. you will never see him on sway in the morning because he cant spit like that. Don’t confuse dope bars with a great mc.

        1. I been saying this.. just because a rapper has bars it dont necessarily make him good. you see who the real spitters are when it comes to freestyling live on radio. most these rappers be rehersing lines before they get on camera and still be put on facial expressions to make it look like a freestyle to the audience.

    3. If u talking Greats u must include Nas and Pac, Biggie , Eminem ,Jay z , J Cole , Kendrick Lamar, KRS ONE,Rakim, L L COOL J , Drake

    4. Young thug is the greastest hip hop mc of all time. Fuck the old ass outdated boom bap.

      Rip 1980s -1990s rap

      1. How you possibly get top comment 162 likes but not even 1 reply? Lmfao @YoungThugsTeeth I take it your life has no more meaning on HNHH because they changed the comment layout and exposed you. So now you here on HipHopDX tryna make a living.

      2. Young thug is not an mc. Thug raps but he not hip hop he do trap. He not considered a real mc like krs one, there’s a difference. You don’t get mcs anymore it’s all mumble jumble rappers who wear they mamas tights
