Rich The Kid Says Older Rappers Are Intimidated By New Generation

Rich The Kid has sent shots in the direction of older artists who he feels spend too much time criticizing the latest generation of rappers.

Asked by VladTV about older artists who think that what artists like him and Lil Yachty are doing isn’t music, the 24-year-old launched into a pretty stunning rebuttal of that attitude.

“Artists that’s been in the game, they feel intimidated by younger artists coming in the game and taking shit over. They looking at they numbers and asking why is my shit skyrocketing over theirs? They like ‘What’s up, where are these niggas coming from? They come in doing shows and they’re screaming for them now.’ They getting upset, it’s getting ridiculous. It’s the rap game, it’s the rap industry, it’s music. It’s okay.”

That said, Rich does make a plea for unity and showed some appreciation for those who came before him.

“I still listen to older artists too. I still listen to older music … I just feel like everybody should just be together and congratulating and be big upping each other instead of getting in their feelings and being jealous at younger cats,” he explains.

Asked about his feelings on the term “mumble rap“, Rich was equally defiant: “If my fans like it, if the kids like it, whoever this music pertains to — if they like, that’s for them. That’s for that crowd. That’s what art is for. If you don’t like then turn it off, don’t count it in your playlist.”

    1. This guy is retarded. Today’s rap has no content and most rappers sound the same including Rich The Kid. Much respect to the rappers who are really working hard and putting out good music.

    2. Its not intimidation. Its more of “WTF did he just say” or “is that English”. Example Desiigner Timmy Turner. Intro to song – “Timmy Timmy Timmy Turner” and then “mkjkdguyyuwnnrugtjnsl njhdg mkhhjigyuty jihyuhjjkjhklj” thats how the rest of the song goes. Its bad enough new rappers refuse to perfect their craft and now they refuse to pronounce words. Thank You new generation rap fans that promote mumbling music. Us old heads appreciate it.

    3. Nah, bra I’m a older rapper and I love the new generation. I was once them. Stop eating your children.

    4. there are some new rappers i like and a lot that i dont. But if they are getting money who cares? This guy sucks but migos is good i feel like they only put him on so they can get a cut but whatever. If rap dies it dies

    5. Some of new shit is so based on the previous single. It’s like some new artists release singles till they get a hit and then just dupe that until it plays out. No classics being made. Old School has a few. Respect that.

    6. The term is annoyed….not intimidated. Embarrassed for the genre, not in fear of these new guys.
      Give me a f*cking break!

    7. Older rappers intimated? No, they’re disappointed. They’re disappointed where the direction that Hip Hop has gone to. Sure there are great rappers of the younger generation such as J.Cole and Chance The Rapper. But there are a multitude of younger rappers such as this bonehead who think they can make a song without putting any thought into it with the hope of making millions of it. That is not the point of Hip Hop or music in general. It is about expressing your inner thoughts and feelings into a distinctive form of art.

    8. the difference is that years from now nobody will be looking back for this shit, this new generation has no classics , its just disposable crap for young suckas with no point of reference to compare good lyrics against mumbling and fake gangstas from real storys from the streets

    9. Wonder If He Knows That He’s 6 Years Away From Becoming A Old Rapper Lol And Also Don’t Think The Older Generation Cares About The Younger Generation, No Hits Are Coming Out Of The Majority Of These Young People, Neither Are Quality Music

    10. Whats funny is that I also hear a lot of younger ppl saying the same-thing about mumble rappers…Media needs to stop playing the younger /old card cause he clearly fell for it! there’s good shit out today and there bad shit….Times haven’t changed that much

    11. c’mon they are not intimidated but disappointed by the crap you so call rapper are releasing why is it that nobody is talking shit about K.Dot/J.Cole/Joey Badass/Chance/Dave east and all the younger rappers that actually have talent. Just because we say u r shit does mean we are intimidated by u but u r really shit.

        1. Lol @ Troy Average being underrated. Not at all. Guy is in his mid-30’s and still making sh*tty mixt@pes. Sounds like he fell off of the short bus. If he were dope, he would’ve blew a LONG time ago. He’s beyond wack.

          1. Bs the media doesn’t hype him up because he isn’t a pussy like cole and kdot and drake. Which is in now for some reason. I wanna hear about real niggas doing real things not a rapper talking about how he lost his gf. Like NIGGA anit u a rapper fuck bitches get money

    12. Hip hop since its inception has been fighting hard for its survival, so as to not be just labeled another passing fad, the culture raised the bar to high levels that these new rappers don’t care to even comprehend, in a genre where even huge smash hits got quickly played out, in rushing to consume the next thing, and now today these new cats are oblivious to all the history. The old school is definitely not intimidated by this new school garbage, it’s just that Hip Hop could actually die out and fracture itself due to how low the level of the bar is set, in current Hip Hop or lets just call it meaningless rap. Old heads are merely pissed off that these youngins are killing off the culture, that they fought so hard to raise up in the past era’s.
