Hopsin Offers His Thoughts On 2 Chainz’s Lyrical Ability

Hopsin speaks on the lyricism of 2 Chainz and others, during Vlad TV Interview.

According to Los Angeles lyricist Hopsin, 2 Chainz’s lyrics are clever and catchy “for that world that he’s in.”

The topic of 2 Chainz’s lyrical prowess came about when a 2013 interview Hopsin took part in with XXL magazine was mentioned. In the interview, Hopsin claimed that a majority of Atlanta rappers “ain’t even really dope.”

Vlad then rattled off the names of Atlanta rappers who are lyrical. Andre 3000, Killer Mike, and 2 Chainz were among the artists named.

“For that world that he’s in, yeah, it’s very clever,” Hopsin said while addressing 2 Chainz’s lyrical ability. “It’s catchy…I’ve learned to appreciate the different types of genres within Hip Hop itself. That’s something I wasn’t doing when I first came out…A lot of these songs are just not popping in my opinion. But I understand times change. Times always change…There’s a lot of songs that I like now that I wouldn’t have liked two years ago or three years ago.”

Hopsin also touched on last year’s “No Words” record. In regards to the song, which quickly went viral thanks in part to its humorous nature, the rapper explained that he didn’t aim to call anyone out on the song.

“It’s not trying to call any rapper out,” he said. “That wasn’t the objective of the song. I just hear a lot of trap music and they’re using the autotune verses and all that, so it just has that feel to it…A lot of this trap music, it’s just the beats. It really is.”

    1. Most of the good lyrical MC’s from Atlanta started back in the 90’s or early 2000’s. Since that time period Atlanta hip hop, for the most part, has become the most weak hip hop lyrically speaking

    2. He either grew up or realized how much negative attention he was getting for always bashing mainstream rappers. Just a year ago he probably would’ve dissed 2 Chainz without hesitation. 2016 begins the era of PC Hopsin

    3. Every wack trap record sounds the exact same. It doesn’t matter who the artist is. The beats sound the same. The mumbling autotune sounds the same. The gun talk, hood talk, etc is really played out. Try making a song with substance; a meaning. Hopsin is talented levels above trap artists.

      1. Bones is a trap beat artist who is a lil less repetitive than the usual trap. Most trap is repetitive, but there’s a few gems here and there

      2. Bones is a trap beat artist who is a lil less repetitive than the usual trap. Most trap is repetitive, but there’s a few gems here and there

      3. True. Trap music with the beats sounding so similar can be compared to Reggaeton with its beats sounding exactly the same as one another. This gives rise to burnout for the genre.

      1. 2 chains pulled the plug on rap after soldier boy ut it in ICU when chains molested that innocent abbot in his long. Face it! Dude is rubbish.

    4. I love all kinds of music, but Hopsin is really a wack artist. Each ill mind of hopsin is him trying to launch a new gimmick or hype off of opposition to something new. The nigga just mad he can’t be a gimmicky trap nigga, and none of his gimmicks working. Hes a fucking loser, hope he gets run over by a car.

      1. You’re a terrible person for thinking that. I hope you get hit by car. The world could use less of people like you.

    5. I agree with hopsin music is poetry reflection of self so don’t go in it for just money go in it for the respect I’ve been writing music for 4 years and im only 13 and im already doper then fetty wap and drake becuse I but down what im thinking not ok this is ganna be the number one club hit and if you want to hear my music not saying i am the dopest because i do have alot to work on but go to sound cloud Iook for the song what if by slicktherapper pace

    6. No Words was so good, Hopsin did Young Thug better than Young Thug does Young Thug, as in it was better than anything Young Thug has ever made.

    7. Hiphop DX is full of haters. People are seriously saying that 2 Chainz is a better rapper than Hopsin? Do you guys have brain damage?
