Shortly after it was announced that the death of Freddie Gray, the Baltimore, Maryland man whose spine was severed following an arrest, had been ruled a homicide, a number of members of the Hip Hop community turned to Twitter to share their thoughts on the breaking news.
West Coast wordsmith MC Ren spoke on there being “some justice” while Talib Kweli tweeted about Gray being murdered while in police custody.
“#FreddieGray had a LEGAL blade. Arrested illegally. Murdered in police custody,” Kweli tweeted earlier today (May 1).
Jamla Records artist Rapsody was one of several to offer praise to Marilyn Mosby, Baltimore City State’s Attorney, via Twitter.
Earlier today, shortly after receiving the medical examiner’s report, Mosby charged six Baltimore police officers with murder and manslaughter.
Other artists who reacted to the news include Jean Grae, Bun B, Kid Cudi, and MC Hammer. Their tweets can be found below (via XXLMag.com).

We’ll see if they can take this to court.
its a gaurantee that nothing will happen, there will be no so called justice and the so called black person/body will continue to be slaughtered, the so called rapper, entertainers, recording artist are poor spokespersons and will do nothing except run their mouths, we promise, just watch, they have already made their deal
This is laughable. Freddie Gray styled himself as hustler albeit an incredibly stupid hustler but nonetheless a hustler. When you live THAT life your chances of dying are much greater than those who aren’t committing crimes and known by police.
I miss the days of rappers telling the truth about the street game and the consequences of getting caught slippin’. Dude got caught slippin’. Thee. End.
