Dame Dash Discusses Championing Kanye West

Dame Dash recently offered praise to Kanye West when asked about the Chicago rapper’s highly popular Air Yeezys, during his interview with Sneaker Watch. Although Dame says he prefers to collect luxury cars and companies, he says it’s dope that Kanye has been able to “touch the world” with his collaboration with Nike.

Additionally, the Roc-A-Fella Records co-founder says he helped champion the likes of Kanye and others during his time spent at Roc-A-Fella by making them famous and rich “by any means necessary.”

“That’s dope, man. I probably wouldn’t pay $5,000,” Dame said, when asked about the Air Yeezys. “That’s not me, man. I don’t collect sneakers. I like to collect like Ferraris and like companies. You know what I mean? I don’t really go too far with [designer] sneakers, but I think that it’s dope that Kanye can touch the world like that. If I’m gonna have an opinion of what he’s done. I’m the one who championed everyone, pause. That was my job. To be the champion. That’s why I made them champions. That was my job. I did my job. My job was to make people famous and make them rich. That was my job. That’s what I did. By any means necessary. It wasn’t about being liked. It was about making people famous and making em rich. And that’s what I did.”

Later in the interview, Dash speaks to Kanye West. “I ain’t seen you in a minute,” he says.

After speaking on putting his artists in the spotlight “by any means necessary,” Dame was later asked if he feels that people in the music industry are scared of him. In response, he said that he’s not concerned with what others think of him unless they’re his family or happen to be close friends of his.

“You can’t make history without a struggle,” he said. “History’s not worth it if there’s no fights. So, I like the fight. I box. I used to box for recreation. You understand what I’m saying? So, it’s the person I am. I don’t care if I’m liked or not. I don’t care about none of that. I’m caring about whether or not my family’s provided for. Ask me if I care if my kids like me then I’ll tell you ‘Yes, my kids love me.’ And I’m very happy to tell you about that…And that’s all that matters at the end of the day.”

Dame being questioned about his likeability in the industry, comes days after the entrepreneur called out Lyor Cohen, Joie Manda, and other music executives, during an interview with Vlad TV.

“Of course you don’t see the puppetmaster,” Dame said during the interview, which was published last month. “So, it’s time to see him. Bring em out. Call out Todd Moscowitz…Ask them why they got their jobs. That’s what I want to see. How did Joie get the job president of urban? And what does that mean? I need to see credentials. And culturally anyone that’s taking orders from that man should be asking ‘Why should I be taking orders from you?’ Period.”

    1. “Thats dope, man. I probably wouldnt pay $5,000”

Of course you wouldn’t, you’re broke.

      1. ^^ Hahahaha man you’re so funny, I swear

Goddamn how funny you are, I can’t even stand how funny you are

I’m going out because I’m tired of seeing how funny you are

    2. nigga you was the biggest hater of kanye you the one that signed him so he wouldnt ever get a career so you could keep him on lockdown doing beats and never rapping the nigga had to go behind your mother fuckin back shut the fuck up damon bitch

      1. i clearly remember when Kanye was signed. Dame DAsh put him right away in the Studio and Thru the Wire came out!
        WTF are you talking about?

A lot of these 2000 kids forget the Dame Dash was the one that found and signed Kanye West and made him who he is today

      2. People are forgetting that Rocafella wasn’t 100% behind The College Dropout album from the beginning. They weren’t interested until Kanye made himself “hot” by doing production for Twista, Alicia Keys, and etc. Even Kanye said that Rocafella rushed his album. Thats why he rereleased it with the properly mixed tracks.(The white cover version) The Roc didn’t even clear the Through the Wire sample until it was on MTV. He had to call Chaka Khan personally just to not get sued. Dame might have supported Ye as a producer but not so much as an artist.

    3. If he really says “pause” audibly, in random places in a conversation… I guess i have to give him a lot of credit for anyone in business taking him seriously.

    4. Now Dash collects pintos, and gets kicked out of companies when he comes to interview for janitorial positions.

      1. Says the anonymous cornball who hasn’t achieved anything in life how many assets liquid or otherwise do you own . It’s easy to judge another man from the comfort of moms basement

    5. “A lot of these 2000 kids forget the Dame Dash was the one that found and signed Kanye West and made him who he is today”

Get off Dame’s dick. His job was that of a cheap scouting agent, peddling lies so Kanye would sign. If Dash was the real deal he would have found another Jay Z and built another Roc a fella.

      1. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Exactly! Dame signed Kanye, so what. He was the ONLY one that Dame signed besides Cam that sold any records. What did MOP do? ODB? Christion? Da Ranjaz?

      1. @ 1st annon sorry wrong . Dame was pushing Kanye hard go look up the Russel Simmons interview he says most people were not convinced about Kanye rapping except Damon Dash .

    7. For all of the haters, the Bottom line is that Dash did things his way, he was not swayed by the machine. He worked for his artist, did all that he could do for them and took no crap. He did business in his terms, he has done more than most of us will ever do combined! He’s set up mega deals, set up mega tours, orchestrated mega promotional deals… What have you done?

    8. A LOT of Gay-Z dickriders, and they are all from NYC.
Gay-z was mad as hell that Kanye was puttin out hits after hits. Matter fact it was around that time that Jay backstabbed Dame and Biggs and left the label bc the Rocafella artist COULD get bigger than Camel.

      Kanye did.

I’m glad you just described your current situation. I could buy and sell your pathetic life a million times over. Dash is broke, and we all know it. If you want to stand up for that be my guest, but most people don’t squander their assets away.
