Among rapper Kanye West’s numerous ventures outside of music was the Air Yeezy, a sneaker collaboration between both Ye and Nike. Released in 2009, the Air Yeezy was then followed by the release of the Air Yeezy 2 last year, which reportedly sold for as much as $80,000 through online auctioning, according to the New York Daily News.
But during a recent interview, Kanye revealed that despite the success of the kicks, he did not receive any royalties for his involvement. The G.O.O.D. Music emcee shared the news as he spoke on daughter North West and making decisions based on the effect they might have on his family.
“Man, just not making decisions for myself and making sure I made decisions for my family,” said Kanye. “Like if it’s for myself, I would have been cool just sitting in Nike not getting no royalties. Letting people line up for the Yeezys and not—you know. When I’m having negotiations and then I go and look in my daughter’s eyes and when I go and negotiate after that I’m like ‘Oh y’all ain’t finna talk to me like that. We finna get this money right.’”
Kanye later addressed TMZ and the paparazzi and spoke on an incident in which a member of the paparazzi attempted to use his mother’s death to incite a reaction from the rapper as he traveled with “Keeping Up With The Kardashians” star Scott Disick whose mother passed away this month.

“I’mma give you an example of some TMZ,” he said. “So, I’m riding around to hang out with Scott, right? Cause he just wanted to build with me after his mom passed and everything. We got the top down, driving around L.A., and we wasn’t giving the paparazzi no reaction. So, one of the paparazzi screamed out ‘Oh, it’s the mothers brothers.’ I’m actually very extremely, extremely, extremely happy. I got joy in my life. I’m so happy. Do you see the way my smile is at the end of that stage?”
Over the past few years, Kanye has engaged in a number of confrontations with the paparazzi. Most recently, the rapper plead not guilty to battery and attempted grand theft charges, which stemmed from a July incident with a photographer at Los Angeles International Airport.
