just because of how it weaves together in such a complex way; he plays off of the word ‘clear’ AND uses ‘you, see world’ to refer back to his whale reference (Sea World), then goes on to play off of the vision theme and THEN ties in a double meaning for being blind by referring to things blind people do AND Bumpy Johnson (‘stick to the streets, keep my dogs out in front of me, you see what i’m saying). and that last line makes me think he was implicitly making a double meaning to Ray Charles or Stevie Wonder ‘ki’s (keys)’, anybody else agree with me on that?

This is one of those joints that when u first listen to it, you kinda brush it off like its aight, nothing special. But then it kinda gets stuck in your head so you listen to it a few more times. You start learning the lyrics and rapping along with it and as you do that it starts to make more and more sense and you start catching little similes and metaphors. And then one day it suddenly hits you…This is fucking dope!
Lupe is very talented and he can write beautifully but Im sorry but his flow is no where near as nice as Em’s. Em might not be dropping knowledge or sending a message through his songs most of the time like Lupe does but when it comes to just your skills on the mic and your flow he aint touching Em.

The reason Lupe appeals to alot of these newcomers is because he offers insight to the ghetto with the heavy dense feeling that talking about the ghetto comes with. He’s a polished representative for the ghetto youth without the grimy feeling that comes from talking about the ghetto and to me? That’s not ghetto. Ghetto to me is a dense, low vibration of pain hurt and suffering and Lupe Fiasco presents it a tolerable objective way. Nas presents the ghetto in both a subjective and objective way. Forcing you to feel the pain and then retreating to a moment of clarity. Lupe just gives you clarity wrapped in crazy wordplay. But you can never be conveniently objective. If you can’t express vulnerability. Be subjective, off your own experience what you’ve gone through and tell people what you’ve learned? Then you won’t gain everybody’s respect. You can’t have all logic and no emotion. Nas gives you both. Lupe gives you logic. I like Lupe though, don’t get it twisted. He’s a great emcee and definitely on the same page when it comes to lyrical aptitude as Nas, but it can never be some, who’s is better. It has to be, why is he better? I still give this track, even though it’s old, four stars. Nas was obviously promoting violence yet he he makes songs singling out younger kids for generations to come(a responsibility for legendary rappers)to not partake in violence. It makes sense to me but can you say that is’nt in a way contradictory. Its like a kid who grows up with his dad in a gang, of course the dad is gonna protect them and say don’t join a gang but how often do these cases turn out with the kid actually bettering him self. I love this debate homey… I’m Lupe Fiasco by heart son. Since the Fahrenheits…. I’m just happy that other people beyond me see that Lupe Fiasco is a contender for being the best. I think niggas is fooled. Eminem is nice. But he isn’t half the Eminem he used to be. Since he sobered up, his skills have fell off a lot. I think the reason why people don’t see how great Lupe is, is because they still don’t catch what he is doing. 90% of our “G.O.A.T”s are considered that because of their flow. Their cadence. How they string the words together. Jay used to be good for saying that shit. Look at Raekwon, Nas, Jay, Big, Pun, Eminem….all of these rappers are based soley on their flow. How they put the words together, rhyme scheme and all that. They say dope shit, don’t get me wrong but its all based on how the bring it. Eminem’s delivery and breathe control are second to none….but lyrically, Shady can’t even fuck with Royce no more. Don’t believe, Youtube the original Renegade. Lupe’s style is more about what he is saying. He took the ‘punchline’ to an entirely new level…NOBODY is fucking with him. Dude said that Fabolous would beat him in a battle. And I agree. Nas knows how to hop back between the objective and subjective, tell you a universal truth while telling you a story within it’s entirety. And his wordplay? He dumbs it down a lot of times just so people can keep up, especially when he’s featured with other artists. Look, I’ve been up on Nas and Lupe long ago. I think they’re both talented, to say the least. You can put both of them in the same book lyrically. But, ultimately, Nas knows how to narrate moral conundrums and he’s not afraid to be vulnerable either. I mean, I haven’t heard Lupe express himself emotionally where I thought, Damn, I feel you. But Lupe will say something that’s like, yup, he’s right. You know what I’m saying? Like, Lupe will help you understand something, put something in a different context with lyrical genius that’s like damn, but Nas will do that, AND instigate empathy. feeling. emotion. You have to listen to Nas enough to give him credit. I mean, even “Queens Get The Money” is so dense, so dense in word play that you guaranteed you’d have to listen to it a couple times to see what he’s actually saying. “Money is My Bitch?” An entire allegory on greed, power, anguish and demasculation. Very few in the Hip Hop game deseerve the credit and clout he has. We aren’t trying to say that Lupe isn’t the shit. We’re trying to say if you haven’t heard enough Nas, do yourself the great pleasure and get into him. He’s one of thee dopes emcees Hip Hop has ever spawned.

The reason Lupe appeals to alot of these newcomers is because he offers insight to the ghetto with the heavy dense feeling that talking about the ghetto comes with. He’s a polished representative for the ghetto youth without the grimy feeling that comes from talking about the ghetto and to me? That’s not ghetto. Ghetto to me is a dense, low vibration of pain hurt and suffering and Lupe Fiasco presents it a tolerable objective way. Nas presents the ghetto in both a subjective and objective way. Forcing you to feel the pain and then retreating to a moment of clarity. Lupe just gives you clarity wrapped in crazy wordplay. But you can never be conveniently objective. If you can’t express vulnerability. Be subjective, off your own experience what you’ve gone through and tell people what you’ve learned? Then you won’t gain everybody’s respect. You can’t have all logic and no emotion. Nas gives you both. Lupe gives you logic. I like Lupe though, don’t get it twisted. He’s a great emcee and definitely on the same page when it comes to lyrical aptitude as Nas, but it can never be some, who’s is better. It has to be, why is he better? I still give this track, even though it’s old, four stars. Lupe did a track with Bun B that boosted his hood cred and best believe when you talk about the ghetto you bring your hood cred. ‘Swang on ‘Em’ it’s dope. But I will leave it at this, I’ve never heard an emotional track by Lupe that made me think, damn this dude is knows what I go through personally. Not something like, this guy knows what he’s saying. There’s a fine line between the two.
