Man if you not old enough to remember the beef you don't need to be talking about it. It's so clear that there are way too many teenage Nas fans up here. Here's how the beef played out: First off, Nas never slaughtered ANYONE. It wasn't a slaughter, no one was saying that back then. It also wasn't a lop sided win either. And Nas was NOT the underdog. Niggas was choosing him over Jay-Z from the beginning because he had been in the game for so long and Jay was looked at like the young cocky kid disrespecting his elder. Jay NEVER tried to be like Nas, the beef was over who was going to takeover as King of NY after Biggie died, the whole beef was about being like Biggie. Both of them wanted that spot. The beef was WAY more than Takeover and Ether, you niggas talkin like the beef was only 2 songs long. The truth is that Nas was getting DESTROYED for a minute, and everyone knew this. Most people were actually rooting for Nas from the get go, but Jay-Z was serving him up. Why do you think the only diss people remember from Nas is Ether? You niggas sayin Jay-Z ain't shit and can't rap and can't see Nas are just kids who don't know shit about hip-hop or this battle. Jay proved himself in this battle. NO ONE was expecting Ether to be so good all of Nas's previous disses were negatively received. It wasn't a lop sided win, but Nas did win, because even though it was a desparate comeback, Ether was the better diss track then anything from the diss, so he won. But niggas who are really old enough KNOW that Jay was killing him, he just got too cocky and instead of finishing him off he turned his nose at Nas and got ate up for it. That beef DID NOT END NAS CAREER you dummies. Nas's career was already over before the beef started. The reason they say Jay spit more facts is because he did. Period. He pointed out that he fucked Nas's old girl and got head from her, that Nas was a woman abuser, the fact that even Nas fans mostly agreee that Illmatic was the only classic Nas album in Nas's long career (which is why his career was dead before the beef), and a whole bunch of other shit, just listen to super ugly. The thing that made us go bananas over Ether was that it was funny as hell! I mean the camel face, dip suckin lips, rock-a-fellow lines were PRICELESS. And 'Em kilt you on your own shit', yea Nas did steal that diss from Jay-Z who said something like that first on takeover about nas's oochie wally song, but Nas made the diss better on Ether, which is why niggas don't even remember the fact Jay said it first. Case and point, both of these emcees are good, two of the all time greats, Jay wanted to take his place as the King of NY, Nas was trying resurect his dying career and get the crown back that he lost when Biggie came in the game. Jay could've won, but his dumb cocky ass got ahead of himself and Nas reminded us of why he was so great. It wasn't enough to save his career, but Jay didn't end it. It was just a great battle that will go down in history. Jay admitted defeat, Nas signed with his label, they shook hands, and lived happily ever after Bawse!!!!!!!!!!

    • DavidDanielz

In reality, if you were around at that time and sided with Nas or Jay you could make an argument who won. lol That being said, Jay has proven to be the MJ of hiphop always staying in the forefront. As for Nas, he will always be admired and respected for his work. Overall both guys are what today's artist wish they could be or try to aspire to be but it's unfortunately not happening in the next generation of artist.

    • DavidDanielz

You made some good points but some of your facts are wrong. Jay never admitted defeat and people after the battle still believed Jay won. Those who are students of the game of hiphop. His timing to let loose on a few hiphop artist that were saying not so nice things about him on the biggest stage. (Summer Jam concert) Was classic!!! No one expected it and Jay made Summer Jam popular. A lot of kids don't understand the classic area of hiphop but boy do I miss that time.

Halal Goat on Atlantic Avenue >>>>> this soft whining has-been (who was never that hot anyway) white nerds should read books by black writers and learn a thing of ten about "entendres"

  • LiveToTellit

"Einstein, my mind, this MC move white squares with my relatives..." triple entendre 1st meaning of MC = refering to himself as an mc 2 nd meaning of MC = he mentioned Einstein before so he's refering the E=Mc2 3 meaning of MC = he mentioned the white squares later in the line so MC here means Magnus Carlesn the number one chess player in the world ! The fucking GOAT. Go get who ever you want, dead or alive. Timeless.

    • Tbrown

E=MC2 is the theory of relativity. It is a triple entendre, @ what? If you have a computer, why don't you use google and fucking learn something?

    • what?

Im pretty sure hes just sayin hes as smart as einstein because he moves white squares (pounds of coke) with people he can trust (relatives)

    • ...?

WOW!!! Is Jay-Z the FIRST EVER PERSON to do a triple entendre? Wait, NO.

Time to end this G.O.A.T. foolishness. In this constant debate about Jay-Z being the best ever I read things like "Nas will destroy Jay-Z" or "Eminem got a better flow than Jay" Those are OPINIONS. When will you fools learn that you can't win a debate with OPINIONS. Every rapper has a different style based on where they are from, the time period in which they were most successful, and their unique personality. We all can go on for days about our personal preferences but in a debate criteria like this is completely IRRELEVANT and automatically BIASED. The only way to win a debate is with cold hard FACTS. And the fact of the matter is that, when you weigh all of the tangible criteria (Sales, Critical Acclaim, Consistency, Longevity, and Impact) Jay-Z makes the strongest case for the G.O.A.T. Eminem has sold nearly twice as much as Jay-Z, and he is Jay's equal when it comes to longevity and impact. But Em lacks the consistency or critical acclaim that Jay-Z has (Im not talkin cult/fanboy classics, Im talkin CERTIFIED classics. XXL/Rolling Stone/Source approved) Eminem is VERY close though. Nas has enjoyed more critical acclaim and more overall respect in the hip-hop community through the years. And he's definitely equal to Jay with longevity and impact. But he hasn't been no where near as much of a consistent presence in hip-hop as Jay has. And he is obviously lacking in the sales department. Lil Wayne just may be the most consistent rapper of all time. He's no slouch when it comes to longevity and impact either. His glaring flaw? In his 12 year career Lil Wayne has yet to drop a truly critically acclaimed classic album (and it can be done in this climate. just look at kanye's discography). Also, contrary to popular beleif, Wayne lacks in the sales department. Sure, Tha Carter III and IV are blockbuster albums, but his OVERALL sales of 10 mil US pale in comparison to Jay-Z's 31 mil. 2pac is a touchy subject. When it comes to impact, pac takes the cake. No other rapper touched the world like 2pac did. He, like Em, has also sold more than Jay and he was very consistent in his time. Sadly, 2pac passed before his time which allowed Jay-Z to surpass him in longevity and critical acclaim. LL Cool J was the prototype for what a G.O.A.T. could be. He has enjoyed the most longevity, and he was fairly consistent, but his sales, acclaim and overall impact are no where near the likes of 2pac, Eminem, and ofcourse Jay-Z. Biggie, Rakim, Common, Snoop, the list goes on. All of these MC's are great but none of them have the total G.O.A.T. package like Jay-Z does. Jay-Z is the 3rd highest selling rapper of all time, and the richest. He's one of the most acclaimed (perhaps only rivaled by his boy Kanye). He dropped multi-platinum albums YEARLY from 96'-03', and he is still going strong today. He's been in the game since 88'. He's impacted hip-hop in countless ways from starting one of the 1st successful MC-owned record labels, to being the 1st non-athlete with a signature shoe, to surpassing the likes of Elvis with #1 albums. Jay-Z is without question the Greatest MC Of All Time. Period. You don't have to listen to him everyday (Im currently on my Kendrick wave). You don't even have to like him. But for goodness sake, RESPECT THE FACTS.

You YMCMB haters are fucking idiots. Because I'm an accountant for Cash Money Records, I spend a lot of time with Birdman. He told me that in 96, Biggie was looking to get out of his contract with Bad Boy so he could sign with Cash Money. If Cash Money is right for Biggie, then it's clearly the top record label. Unfortunately, Jay-Z and Diddy found out about Biggie's upcoming departure and had him shot. Also, Birdman as always a role model for Pac. Most of you don't know this, but the song Hit Em Up was originally supposed to be Split Em Up, a song where Pac brags about fucking Faith, leading to her breakup with BIG. But Birdman explained to Pac that real gangsta's talking about killing people, so that's how Hit Em Up took on such a violent tone. YMCMB for life. We got the game by the clit!

This is not "Bands Make Her Dance" You slow ass fuck niggas 4th Star: For Jay managing to effortlessly tie those politically charged/socially aware lyrics together with the plot of the American Classic Novel and soon-to-be classic movie The Great Gatsby. 5th Star: For the powers that be even bringing Jay-Z on board for The Great Gatsby soundtrack in the 1st place. ICONIC shit fuckboys. 5 stars faggots.

  • Nigga is u crazy?

Jesus, niggas on this site expect every fucking song to be insanely lyrical. You're not going to get an Inspectah Deck "Triumph" verse or some Illmatic shit on every track. This is enjoyable because I don't expect every song to blow me away lyrically. It's okay to listen to some simpler shit like this every now and then. Jay has lost it since Black Album but he still manages to drop nice verses from time to time.

  • mindrelated

The beauty of art is that it is not to be simple, it should not be easily deciphered. The issue with this generation of music listeners is they care not to use their brains, they rather listen to "rap" with no artistic value but has a good beat. If you listened to this song and stated that it was not good lyrically, you should educate yourself. Research or think before you speak. #think

  • OffBreed

Lyrically this is good....but I'm just tired of hearing music with no substance so I more than likely won't give this a second listen.

^ Your comparing a the GOD MC - JAY-HOVA to average rappers with 1 or no classic albums to their names. Renegade was great verses, EM edged it - but u thnk EM , wAYNe or any of these other faggots are on the level of HOV, NAS, GFK, SCARFACE etc BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaa ahahahahahahahah

    • HONEST TRUTH

Eminem is better than Jay. He proved it in Renegade. He killed him lyrically and metaphorically. Kendrick just killed him this year. Give it up man, Jay is a HAS BEEN

Maybe because because he 11 number albums - all 4 stars or over, grow up man, Hov is the quadruple metaphor king.

  • WORD

CORRECTION: Nothing Jay has dropped since 2000 can compete with Eminem's verses on Renegade

    • TRUTH

None of those are insanely lyrical than the verses i mentioned. Jay uses simple rhymes. Kill yourself

Um, allow me: 1. Diamonds from Sierra Leone Remix 2. Fallin' (American Gangster) 3. Already (Blueprint 3) 4. Corporate Takeover (I'll even throw in a link to that one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mE7HuHB5V0M) Wait, since 2000? 5. What More Can I Say? 6. Public Service Announcement 7. Allure You get the point...

  • RocNation

I'm a big Hov and Roc Nation fan but in all honesty, this is average at best. Simple ass rhymes.

    • Swordz

^You need pretty good IQ to catch all of Jay's rhymes - the kids don't understand half of references or word-play in song. Jay been killing them, this is a concept song for a film.

    • j.

Im not saying the song is good or bad. But it aint simple. "Einstein, my mind, this MC move white squares with my relatives" Your entitled to your opinion of the song, but come on man, as far as rap goes, thats pretty complex

  • Mr. Bank Roll

The KING OF RAP is BACK. Believe it folks, it's gonna be a Roc Nation year in 2013. CEO General Hova, RiRi, young sniper J.Cole are gonna fuck over YMCMB. Lil Wayne, Drake, Tyga couldn't fuck with this movement, REAL TALK!!!!

Drake has potential to get on a Top 10 Living MCs list, but other than that, they're all either slightly above average (Meek Mill), average (Ross, Wayne), in their own little niche (Future), not hip-hop (Nicki Minaj), or absolute trash (the rest of them).

I havent felt Jay-Zs rhymes since American Gangster. What is he talking about? cuz i caught everything he said and my face was like this the whole time -__- . Then I read these comments ''this track is amazing'' sometimes I feel like im taking crazy pills. Lyrically bar for bar very disappointment. Come on Jay you can do better.(probably not, hes so far gone)

  • GGENERAL

I think people tend to forget hold old Jay is and just how long he's been doing this....One thing can't be denied though, all of these people complaining about whatever it is their complaining about, do so with high expectation in mind. If he was some okay rapper, people wouldn't expect him to be great every time he drops a song. Jay gets criticized for not living up to his own set bar.....As far as the song, if you don't understand the word play or the movie this is soundtracked for, you probably won't get the song and therefore, not like it

    • wordizbond

G, you hit it on the head... I do hold the nigga to high expectations and I did forget he's like 56 or whatever he says he is. I'm ashamed at him conforming to this dumb shit everyone else is doing. I do understand the reference and have read The Great Gatsby. The song still is not hot... *shrugs* and Hov hasn't come proper since American Gangster, with limited exceptions like Murder for Excellence. Kanye' damn near son'd him on Watch The Throne. This is not the G.O.A.T. I'd take ab-soul over the nigga right now... Kendrick too. Sposed to get better with time... if not, time to hang it up...

    • GGENERAL

^I don't know what the hell you talking about, lol, but spoken like a person who doesn't really listen to Jay.... Who are these real rappers and who are the fake ones? Do you know these people personally? Or are is there fake and realness dependent on the type of music YOU like? Sold a dream? lmfao, (N-WORD) save that self righteous s**t for somebody who's not intelligent enough to see through it. THIS is music, people take from it what they please. If you get nothing from it, move on. People always trying to turn one thing into another, smh

    • Anonymous

What bar are you talking about. He's always just been an OK rapper. Jay Z is the king of fast food music. Most of his albums are the three video songs and that's all you listen to type. Listening to his shit is like eating McDonald's everyday. The king of faking it till you make it music. He learned well from Big. Subject for subject, hit for hit. Jay Z is a limited rapper. Very limited. Once you get pass the club songs for the mindless and those out fronting for the night. There really isn't much there. I realize fake niggas out number real niggas. You can count the real rappers in the game on one hand right now. So the industry is basically completely supported by niggas who love to be sold some dream they could never live. While at the same time being told how broke they are. See Rick Ross. Niggaz love to be sold a dream. See a preacher. Gotta give it to him. Faking it till you make it in this country can make you rich.
