“Yo it’s me, Alex.” His cult following still intact from his 12″ glory days, Cage returns with a mini-movie for the blind. In an effort to keep the buzz for his crew’s upcoming full-length, The Weathermen’s deranged founder brings you the “Weatherproof” EP.

Here’s how it goes: 9 tracks, 1 intro, 6 new tracks, 1 previously released track, 1 remix, 2 guests, 7 producers, all good. Clocking in at under 30 minutes, Cage and his production team of Mighty Mi, Rjd2, J-Zone, Camu Tao, Reef, Sebb and emz leave little room for error. The Mighty Mi produced “Summer In Hell” is a nice eerie joint where Cage poses the question, “how the fuck did rap turn into Big and Pac karaoke?” In preparation for their upcoming album as the Leak Brothers, Tame One joins Cage on a track by the same name. It is Reef who ends up stealing the show with his plodding keys and haunting strings.

The ever improving Camu Tao supplies the beat and hook for “Come To Daddy,” a track familiar to those who copped the Weathermen’s mix CD. The albums least known producer emz, lends one of the best beats for Cage as he describes the life of the “Underground Rap Star.” In case you didn’t know how they live, it goes something like this, “get lots of brain but the birds are vein/they’ll peck at anythang.” The original 7L & Esoteric diss track “Haterama,” while not as venomous as its successor, is an insulting little ditty. To little surprise, Rjd2 provides the albums nicest offering, the sparkling “Weather People.”
Amid his usually morbid topics on “Fresh Out The Morgue,” Cage gets a great line about todays fashion, “someone really needs to teach these babies/half of this throwback shit wasn’t poppin’ in the eighties.”

“Too Much” gets the remix treatment from J-Zone, the track is nice but does little to compliment Cage and would have probably served better as an instrumental. “Weatherproof” is an easy winner for any fans of Cage’s morose fantasies and EC’s production. Now that you’ve been weatherproofed, prepare for the storm when the Weathermen come this fall.
