Now with his debut album, "Based On a T.R.U. Story," 2 Chainz has revealed himself as the weakest guest on his own album.

2 Chainz is a phenomenon. The Georgia-based rapper has featured on every big budget hip-hop album and mixtape of 2012 so far, cultivated a portfolio of compliments from superstar artists, snagged a major label deal with Def Jam, and developed his own catch phrase (even if it's based around little more than hollering his own name). But 2 Chainz's rise so far has been based on his value as an accoutrement to other rappers - he's the guest verse artist of the day. Now with his debut album he's revealed himself as bare and buffoonish.

For his part, 2 Chainz certainly sounds enthusiastic when he raps on the 13 tracks that make up his debut. But his energy has never been in doubt - it's his dopey lyrics. Throughout the album Chainz kicks a series of amazingly pea-brained rhymes that most times have him coming off like the resurrection of a character from Chris Rock's gangsta rap parody CB4 but without the knowing humor. "Dope Peddler" has him boasting "Most of my niggas got gold teeth/ Most of my bitches got tattoos," before explaining, "I'm in the trap 'cause I work there." Then on "Extremely Blessed," featuring The Dream, he gives a lesson in mixing his metaphors, opening the track by rapping, "Give us this day our daily bread/ If you a chicken-head go somewhere and lay some eggs." Soon though he's talking about being "known to kill pussy" before rabbiting on about waffle houses. By the end of the first verse all you're really sure about is that at some point a young Chainz possibly had a memorable real life intimate encounter with a feathered friend.
Predictably, it doesn't take long for Chainz to damn himself on his own album. As the Nicki Minaj co-starring "I Luve Dem Strippers" sparks into life, he begins by boasting about how "you are looking at a shark in a fish tank." It's as if he's managed to unwittingly sum-up his own restrictions. As a guest rapper, he's something like a big fish in a small pond - someone who might look and sound impressive at first glance but is encumbered by stark limitations. Naturally, he's thoroughly out-rhymed by every guest on the album - Kanye West, Drake, Minaj, Scarface - and that might be the real reason behind the 2 Chainz phenomenon: He's a rapper that other rappers will endorse because they know he'll bring a certain amount of idiotic energy to their own track while never threatening their dominant status. Someone fish him back out into the guest rapper pool, please.

What the album lacks in substance, it obviously makes up for in energy, as songs like "Yuck" grab that "Truuuuuuu" intensity - though arguably most people will be whipping their hair around to Weezy's verse more than Teta Chico's.

Someone I know, who has otherwise great taste in Hip-Hop, claimed this album "top shelf". So, reluctantly I gave it another try. My first attempt, I never made it passed the second song. THIS time I made it to "Im different", and I'd had enough. This shit is complete garbage. Although I'm not a HUGE "trap" fan, I'm not gonna claim an innocent beat as garbage. It's the lyrics, and flow ON the beats that make it garbage. Trap beats are definitely easy to listen to, and conjure a bit of nostalgia (for me, at least). But 2 Chainz, as an emcee, is terrible. I agree with the comment below me, rappers are supposed to be clever with words. That's what sets Hip-Hop apart from all other genres. NO other genre showcases such intelligent and clever word play, deep metaphors and similes, and vivid story-telling. A good Hip-Hop joint can still be "party" and get the asses moving, while still being somewhat conscious and clever with the words. Goddamn shame that this is what Hip-Hop's come to, and that kids eat this shit up. I see now, that the person who claimed this "top shelf" was just joking.

  • bigtonymelucci

two chainz is the epitome of garbage, "let's sell this to dumb suburban kids" hip-hop. You can say "i'm different" all you want, but it doesn't mean it's the truth. Wasn't there a time when rappers were supposed to be clever with words, even supposedly the poets of our era? If you don't know how to make original rhymes, let alone actually sing or play a musical instrument, then how on earth do call yourself a "musician" and still sleep good at night? 2 chainz may be fooling prepubescent valley girls and Wiz- wannabes, but real rappers and musicians can smell him for what he is: un pezzo di merda.

hahahaha 2 chains = short bus u ppl can have ur dumb down music !!!

  • Adrian N. Jones

The part that bothers me the most about the review is the fact that it's so obviously biased!! HipHopDX has a serious bias toward southern rap music of a certain type. The fact that you don't get the slang or understand the lyrics aside You guys praise New York Boom Bap rap and dog Trap Music!! My suggestion would be to get someone to review Trap Records that know about Trap Shit!!! As far as my review goes this album is HOTT!! 2chainz went in on this!! Never thought I would say this but it actually is better than Tru Religion to me. 5 Stars!!!!! & oh yeah 2chainzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

    • Mike

Don't understand the lyrics? This shit is elementary dude, there's nothing complicated about 2 Chainz's lyrics. Don't ever say "you don't understand his lyrics" because anyone can understand his simple ass lyrics and tell that it's bullshit.

  • killah_casp

bullshit as title stolen from my boy c-murder which would probably dig a ditch 4 this clown.

  • TRUUUUUUUUUU!

DAMN HHDX WENT HARD ON TITY 2 CHAINZ!!!!!!! for once i agree with one of their reviews. lol they said this guy is only good for bringing "idiotic energy" to other rappers music.... thats so.... TRUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!^_^

  • skaface

Nigga doesn't belong in good music. Whack fuck

This is strictly ride out thoughtless music. Good to bang in the whip but dont think about it too much.

  • James

Chainz really disappointed me with this one. Idk if it was going Hollywood or kanye wests dumb ass getting ahold of him but this album sucks. It sound like an idiot made it. I was his biggest fan. I've downloaded every mixtape since playaz circle. Compared to mixtapes like codine cowboy and trapavelli 2, T.R.U. Was so weak. I knew Chainz for being real as fuck and a ghetto genius. Now I'm wandering if hes a crack head. 'no mater where I'm at I crack. Ya i got crinack'. Glorifying crack? That shit is dead man. Imma be pullin for him but his career is gunna be over if he doesn't come out with a banger mixtape by December.

  • @YoungTerrell_

best album of august. Lyrics- 3/5 Beats- 4.5/5 Features- 4/5 Sonds- 5/5

  • dadadoh

    it's 2 chainz, nuff said.

  • anonymous

What he needs to do is go back to Playaz Circle. Everybody slept on him then, but they were dope as shit. Reconcile with Luda and Dolla Boy and go back to that.

  • 2 Brainz

2 Stainz is so horrible oh my god. I don't know what else to say, he's so wack. Perfect example of the media (in this case record labels) feeding us what they want, and we buy into it. How is this clown who has no talent by the way, gonna come outta nowhere with a different name and sell 150 thousand copies first week? These little kids will buy anything I swear. How come the real artists, the ones actually with talent can't put up these numbers? Even B.O.B., that dude can rap, and his bubblegum poppy-ass album flopped horribly. How does 2 Chainz sell more albums than B.O.B.?

  • Horrible

Lhea Starr a dumb hoe smh

  • bub

Had to listen to it multiple times then a few tracks grew on me...when you overlook the fact that his lyrical delivery isn't what this is about then you can appreciate the rest of it. Good non-thought provoking music though...meaning you can jus turn it up in the whip and ride when going out

  • LheaStarr

    SN: 2 CHAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINZ

Wait Hol Up, Let Me Slo UP ...OK ALL of you on here HATIN on 2 chainz are the EPITOME of the LAMES JCole talked about on #Villematic 'SIT AROUND IN MIDDLE CLASS HOMES W/ COMPUTERS ON HATING ON THE LATEST SONGS' < NOW THIS is Based on a T.R.U. story .. The majority of you are hating because your mad because your trying to do what he is doing and your mad he ON and your NOT ... be happy for the next man and stop all that CRABBING .... On Top of that out of all the rappers who I have watched are NOT as Real and Down to Earth of a person as this man is... And this man is Humble ... I did an A&R listen... you know, 10-15 seconds per song... The production is tight, as expected. 2Chainz is garbage, also expected. I can't lie though, every now and then, good ol Tity Boi says something witty. that's as far as I can go... also, GFID was waaaay better overall

  • XTRoRDiNAiRE

I guess 2 chainz isnt in the illuminati after all..lol I just cant believe the rated whack ass rick ross higher than this. This shit go way harder than anything rick ross drops

  • Anonymous

Seriously a 3 DX way too nice for the rapper that is not liked at all for actual rapping ability .

  • Anonymous

if im wrong im wrong but does anyone agree that all the albums these rappers are dropping are just average and the mixtapes they put out before the albums have been magnificent pieces of work worthy to be called albums.1#rick ross rich forever/godforgives i dont.2# 2CHAINZ tru realigion/based on a tru story.3#wale about nothing/ambition.4#yo gotti live from the kitchen/all the cocaine musiks lol.just a couple and i know those were mixtapes but if those were put out as albums they would of got alot more capitol just a opinion.

    • LheaStarr

Yes, not all rappers , but I felt that way about Future ... because that Astronaut Status and Dirty Sprite is KILLIN Pluto ...its because once their signed they have to write and sound the way they think you should .... SMH

  • 2 CHAINZ!!!

Straight Fire!!! Every track is a banger...Playaz Circle 4 Life!!!

  • Allmusic

If there's a reason to cheer for 2 Chainz, it's that the limited but now loveable rapper lifted himself out of a dead-end group (the Sporty Thievz-like Playaz Circle), dropped his awful name (who wants to say they're the world's biggest Tity Boy fan?), and reinvented himself as a welcome character somewhere between the syrup-sipping Pluto and the slang-slinging Pootie Tang, all while rocking True Religion everything (and if the clothing company didn't pay for all this album's product placement, they should send Chainz a box of swag immediately). This devil-may-care style that's right in line with the flash-flavoring landscape of 2012, was refined over mixtapes, street releases, and guest spots, all of it smart preparation for this official debut. Based on a T.R.U. Story is a fine payoff, coming off as trendy as those jeans Chainz keeps repping, but still quirky enough to stick to the ribs. Prime example is the opening "Yuck!," a high-powered Streetrunner production with Lil Wayne getting in the distasteful spirit of the album (warning: he's searching through his black book for a girlfriend who's not experiencing "the monthlies") while Chainz places his second favorite product when Similac gets another mention, once again thanks to the rapper's skill at baby making. "Birthday Song" borrows Wayne's love of dumb bluntness for the great "She got a big booty, so I call her 'Big Booty'," while "Extremely Blessed" offers both "Our first date was the Waffle House" and "If you a chicken head, go and lay some eggs" which producer The-Dream coats in polished R&B for a track that's quite velvety and Ludacris. In this environment, a stripper track with Nicki Minaj can't go wrong, and when hooky singles "No Lie" with Drake and "Birthday Song" with Kanye West find their respective superstars coming down to Chainz' big booty level, it's like free drinks and table dances all night long. Still, there are a couple unexpected highlights, like Mike Posner getting convincingly nasty on "In Town," or "Stop Me Now," which plays it soulful, smooth, and nostalgic ("All my Planets were Digable"). The claim "Every line is so dope, you can snort it" is an oversell, but 2 Chainz over-promises and almost delivers on his official debut, putting him right in the punch-line rapper's sweet spot.

    • snIPez

Having named himself "Titty Boi" in the first place was your first clue. You act like he is some genius because he changes his name. To me that doesn't give you automatic street cred. The guy looks like a broke ass Snoop Dogg with anorexia.

    • 2LAME

shut the fuck up. 2 chainz is fucking garbage, maybe if he didn't try saying this WOULD be the album of the year and over hyped the shit out of it people would have more respect for him. the fact of the matter plain and simple is that he's terrible, and no you can't play that "he was just joking, its club music" card, cause he HIMSELF made his music out to be serious when he said his album would be album of the year and a classic. He also promised kanye would be heavily emerged in the project BUT HE WAS ON ONE SONG. 2chainz IS he WEAKEST guest on HIS OWN ALBUM. so stfu ,the album DOES have to be lyrical cause thats what he sold to the public, its like mcdonalds saying there burgers are 100% beef but when you buy it you find out it has NO SUBSTANCE.

  • Rolling Stone

Tauheed Epps has been around since the Nineties, when he was one half of the Southern duo Playaz Circle. But he recently took up the moniker 2 Chainz, and turned into hip-hop's most promiscuous, and hilarious, guest verse-supplier. His commercial solo debut is packed with A-list cameos and producers, but 2 Chainz commands the spotlight rapping about success and sex with the irrepressible enthusiasm of the upstart he isn't. Occasionally he admits he's been around for a while. But the confession comes with a punch line. Actually, two punch lines: "Former Posturepedic, I was slept on/So many chains it look like my neck gone."

  • Jack

I hate how dudes always feel like every rapper has to be lyrical...not every rapper is lyrical. Then people always want to throw Jay-Z and Eminem into the convo. If you compare every rapper to those two then everybody will be trash, because nobody is caomparable. That's like saying the 2012 Olympic basketball team is trash because they don't compare to the official Dream Team. I personally like 2 Chainz, as well as Future. and Waka not because I know they going to hop on the track and drop some lyrical orgasms, but because like the review says they comes with energy constantly. Guys have to realize that it's a different day, not everybody is being lumped into the same category of rap...

    • Anonymous

Okay then I'll just diss what they're saying instead of HOW they are saying it. Either way there's going to be a way to get at all the shitty acts you just mentioned.

  • Esquire

2 Chainz Is A Southern Rapper..Ya'll Probably Expected More Cause He Signed With Def Jam..The Album Is Lacking A Certain Finesse When It Comes To His Lyrics But He Does Know How To Hype It To A Fact That His Songs Somehow Come Together..Maybe Next Time 3/5

  • SdotD

How the hell did hip hop dx give this a 3, while GFID got a 4? GTFO dx. This if anything is a 2 or at best 2 and a half, while GFID is just 2 and a half. Idiots giving GFID a 4 and Life is Good a 4 at the same time. Only the users on this web rate it what it is.

This album is good. People have too much hate. 2 Chainz has funny one-liners and metaphors that can go over ones head. He was definitely into this album and put a lot in it. His concepts are out of the box and its refreshing. It is like the song says, different. It isn't really what we expect from him, it's better. His production is great. The features are great. The album is great.

  • ...

I would like to describe my firsthand experience of running afoul of this system. Our schooling, which is where the personality begins to form in a social context, effectively ignores any particularities of the individual. There is no individual approach, no study of culture, of philosophy, of basic knowledge about civic society. Officially, these subjects do exist, but they are still taught according to the Soviet model. And as a result, we see the marginalization of contemporary art in the public consciousness, a lack of motivation for philosophical thought, and gender stereotyping. The concept of the human being as a citizen gets swept away into a distant corner. Todays educational institutions teach people, from childhood, to live as automatons. Not to pose the crucial questions consistent with their age. They inculcate cruelty and intolerance of nonconformity. Beginning in childhood, we forget our freedom.

Remember Kanye reminiscing about his debut? "And I'm sure Dame figured, like: 'Man, if he do a whole album, if his raps is wack at least we can throw Cam on every song and save the album'" Conclusion applied to here: Basedo n T.R.U. Story should have a feature from Cam'Ron on EVERY song.

How are these wack, no talent having, retarded rappers getting in the game, and people like you bump his music like its that heat?

  • Guillaume_SHM

"I Luve Dem Strippers" ... Weakest ... track ... ever ... WOW this is shit.

  • chris

agree and disagree. one) to everyone talking bout how 2 chainz is retarded... watch an interview with dude. he's smart. graduated from college even, and if what i've read online is true, with a 4.0. two) 2 chainz doesn't HAVE to be lyrical. that's not what the purpose of his music is. and i dunno about others, but when i listen to sir dual necklaces, i'm constantly paying attention to the shit he says because it's hysterical, for the most part. i reviewed it too... said it's a bad album, but i enjoyed it. which is why i'd give it around a 3 too. but hey, what do i know.

So I decided I would try to listen to the album with an open mind. I came to the conclusion that this is not a good album. There is no substance whatsoever and he has no lyrical ability.. I'm not one to judge other people's opinions but I'm still trying to figure out how the website gave this album a 3/5? I can't find anything on this album that would justify this kind of rating.

    • Anonymous

And I can't find anything on this album that would justify its existence. By the way, Phillip Mlynar hit the nail on the head stating "2 Chainz has revealed himself as the weakest guest on his own album.". What do you want in a hip-hop industry w/o substance, lyrical ability, flow, charisma? He can't even make decent party songs ...

    • Anonymous

Funny? Tity Boy is so dumb I can't take him nothing but serious. And that bothers me. You can tell difference between a real artist making a funny record / album because he is capable to do it too, or a clown making that kind of material 'cause thats the ONLY thing he can produce. Problem is Tity Boy went full retard. Again.

2 chains makes music for drunk people in the club.....that is the only time his music is tolerable, He even sounds drunk when he raps to me. Is what it is...that is his lane....if you looking for lyricism you are looking in the wrong place. IF you looking for a Illmatic...Ready to Die, Aquemeni, All eyes on me from this dude, you are looking in the wrong place

  • JUST AS I EXPECTED

You could be the most promoted, marketed and overhyped rap artist with sales projections of millions but if you have no rapping or MC skill, your legacy will be extremely short lived and this album is a sheer proof of that. 2 Chainz is 2 Wack

  • TruthHurts

This is horrible. I completely agree with the author of this article. 2 Chainz is in the same leage as Lil B and Wacka Flocka, utter trash. As much as it pains me to say this, I don't know who is worse - the new Shyne or 2 Chainz?

  • The_Observer

just listened to this garbage on Youtube what a waste of bandwidth luckily i have uncapped or else i would asked for my bandwidth back Hip Hop Is Not Dead Nas, It Lives like Krs-One Said, but Its 'Hip Hop 4 $ale' - Canibus Can't believe grown ass men get into the studio & record this garbage, say such senseless thing, package it, call it music and sell it to the users? then you get Hip Hop DX giving it this half a star album 3 stars....the hip hop bar has been set really low everyone one's album is a classic nowadays

    • 2-Sentz

I agree with you homie... but Hip Hop For $ale? Really?? That shit was garbage too! Comparatively speaking it was way above this 2 Chainz clown, but better smelling garbage is still garbage

  • Anonymous

Wow this has to be the best review I've seen in my life... especially coming from hiphopdx. Thank you hhdx. This is what you call keeping it real.

    • The_Observer

The only good song here is the one with Scarface & John Legend....Legend always come thru for rappers...Scarface is on fire these days, had to skip to his verse and kept rewinding it lol...his solo will be the most anticipated

  • Ze'

Damn Phillips must be from nyc.Im from the BX by the way. i read the review and it sounds like he meant to diss 2 chainz and couldnt wait. lol. if the nigga aint lyrical then let him bring good energy. he doesnt have that many features to be that outshined, **CoupH**ater!

    • Anonymous

Every songs he has a feature, he is outshined. Its plain and simple. Every song without a feature is straight garbage. Vocabulary like a 5 years old, beats has 0 creativity and surprise. He still lacks on records with featured artist, but at least those efforts has something listenable on them.

  • Starskey Love

everybody iknow loves 2 chainz accept you guy's on this sight... i wonder if ya'll party and have fun......big hank would be disgusted with all of you...master gee to ..i dunno what u all want out of this hip hop thing but accept it Chris Wallace is dead and there will never be better than him enjoy the music

  • yardie

admit it all of you ...you hate hip hop our don't understand it 2 chainz is pure fun just like the flocaveli CD really enjoyable and it bangs....but yor waitinf=g for a DMX / our 50 cent to capture your souls me too ....but you gotta ride with wats out now and wait for that break through.... fun CD better than Ross

  • Anonymous

idont agree with most of you on here i liked the album he s not lyrical but he makes good songs kinda like jeezy but rick ross new album is way better i copped them both and you guys should also if hiphop dont pick up in sales soon it will be dead and these are two of the most hyped rappers doin it right now stop all the damn hate and support hiphop!

  • Anonymous

i like this album more then Rick Ross's

  • Anonymous

1 of the best album reviews on this site. I dnt like the 3 outta 5 X's but u made legit clear points on the review. These mainstream artists need to get called out for their terrible lyricism. Hip-hop is like a sport. The criticism can be very harsh at times but most of the time, it's true. If u wanna make dance records, club records or auto-tune records to make $ on a major label, that's cool but u will get called out if that shit's wack. Tell ur label to pay a ghostwriter or something but dnt get mad when critics & fans of the hip-hop commnuity call u wack. Cuz if we gave u a pass, we would be disrespecting all the legends & great lyricist who came before u.

  • Dom Kennedy

most of the commentators on this site are just wannabe rappers. their posts are not to be taken serious because they talk in extremes, use hyperbole at every chance and bash anything that is even remotely close to mainstream. These same posters would not even make a peep in a room full of 'wack' rappers.

  • kiv

truuuu. most over hyped rapper since lil wayne. At least at waynes peak he actually had some hot lyrics. Not overly deep, but clever and hot. This guy 2chains is not even that..so basic. Beats and guest are what hold him over water. Cant believe he actually said he wants to make an album with no guest appearances ah la NaS. Nah bro, i wouldnt do that if i were you.

  • Nick

I laughed out loud at a lot of his lines. He's actually really funny. However, I doubt he was trying to be comical. He's kind of ridiculous but whatever its a fun listen.

  • BlazeDatIshUp

"He's a rapper that other rappers will endorse because they know he'll bring a certain amount of idiotic energy to their own track while never threatening their dominant status. He should stick to that pool." lol...Yep that pretty much sums him up. His raps are forgetable and not all that witty or anything else. It's a damn shame when you are on a song with wack ass rappers like drake and nicki minaj, and you still can't 'out rap' them.. I expect Kanye to be better than him, that's a given, but regardless he needs to step his game up if that's even possible.

  • GF

"He's a rapper that other rappers will endorse because they know he'll bring a certain amount of idiotic energy to their own track while never threatening their dominant status." That about sums it up. lol. Nah But straight up, rappers like 2chains are a dime a dozen. They really make you feel like "damn..anyone can be a popular rapper really". And we as hip hop fans allow this. Its like you wouldn't tune to the NFL game to watch HS football or minor league. So why would you tune to a radio station or go to a concert to listen to a basic ass rapper that isn't even skilled at his craft? These wack rappers gettin over paid for shit I can do myself. I could rap better than 2chains. (yeah i said it) I guess i need some co-signs and im famous.

  • Anonymous

50 people gave this 1 star and 13 gave it 5 stars. I guess the majority of people on here aren't as stupid as I thought

  • Tittttttty Boi

Brilliant samples, perfect feature selections, excellent production all around compliments the main feature of this album, 2 Chainz. His fresh to death swag is unquestionable while he seamlessly boasts lines that are like scripture of his T.R.U REALIGION. This shit is hype as fuck, trippy to the intrinsic value, and the themes of each songs present an image that is something of greater worth than overly directed lyrics desperately preaching a lame tale.

  • Anonymous

Funny how the review states in almost every sentence that 2 Chainz is a weak rapper and than the album still gets 3 Stars.

  • Joe

2.56 stars is being generous. We all know two chains doesn't have lyrics but he doesn't really have any redeeming qualities to offset it. I'd give 0 stars, it's Low IQ music.

  • anon

Wayne- best rapper, best guitar player and rockman, bestskater. and a respected member of the Bloods. Only Rick Ross is realer, and noone's realer than Ross

  • jerry

sadly it looks like this will debut at 1 only other rap albums this year to do that are life is good and the rick ross album 2 of these 3 are terrible and one is great

  • NikbagTV

LMAO @ this review!! this album was a straight classic, the WHOLE south is bumping this album #YA BOI NIKBAGTV

  • Anonymous

Finally a review i can agree with

  • My world has been turned upside down

    Oh no!!!2 Chainz aint lyrical?What's next?Lil Wayne ain't a poser?Drake aint gay?Kanye only dates smut buckets?50 is a snitch?Game is bi-polar/Oh the humanity!!!

  • Anonymous

Holy shit, he ripped 2 chainz a 2nd ass hole. 2 holes!! Nah but for real though, he was a bit to harsh: Dope Peddler, No Lie, Im different, Extremely Blessed and DEFINITELY the song "In Town" were tracks I enjoyed. But I would give this album 3/5 though. I agree with that.

  • Anonymous

Haha. this dude and this album is a complete joke..how has he ever got a record deal!??!!!! he can't rap. simple. this is not what hip hop is about. this is truly awful music.

  • Ticket

this is a great review but why the fuck did it get 3 stars..

  • rich

Anybody else notice the discrepancy between the ratings given by the reviewer and the actual reviews on this website? Sometimes you read 3.5 star rated album review and the reviewer is bashing the shit out of it and sometimes you read another 3.5 star rated album and the reviewer is giving props. makes no sense. Given this review...Phillip (the reviewer) should've given this a 1.5 star rating at most...given he called the guy's ryhms "bafoonish"

    • smh

dude are you stupid? "the actual reviews on this website" are people rating the article. it has nothing to do with "the ratings given by the reviewer"

  • Shady305

    This review is hilarious!

  • Anonymous

Tell em Philip.. This shit sucked dick, I like 2 chains sometimes cuz it's careless rap.. Supposed to be fun, but this shit is pure boo boo

  • John

Seriously? This review is waaaaaay off? This is 2 Chainz, not Kendrick Lamar. Not Nas. Not some dope ass underground cat (Roc Marciano, Action Bronson). You can't expect him to be a southern Lupe Fiasco. 2 Chainz is about making fun music you can play and laugh at how hilarious his lines are. He's not trying to educate the masses or be a teacher like KRS. Hip-Hop has different functions and he is doing him. If you evaluate the music based off the kind I artist he is and his audience, you come to the conclusion that he made exactly what people wanted. Something to ENJOY. Sometime you want to be intellectually stimulated. Sometimes you want a big booty blonde stripper in your face. Stupid? Yes. But waaaaay too much fun to pass up!! 5/5!!!!

    • Anonymous

Dumbass niggas here don't know what hip-hop is. This album is wack.

    • COMMON SENSE

Shut up COON. The album was trash. Even if you ignroe the lyrics, the album is WACK. There is no clear concept of the receord. Its not cohesive. Every beat sounds the SAME, just different variations. He got outshined on EVERY guest feature. The project was rushed. He has no clear vision of a TRUE album. His mixtape dumped all over this crap album--and this is all coming from a 2 Chainz fan. Stop riding his sacks and just admit that it couldve been better. You wont be listening to SINGLE song from this album in 3 months, so why play? Real niggas be real!

    • yolo

I'm from the south and this shit sucks i wasn't expecting nothing from titi boi/2 chainz or most seasonal rappers in the south thats what most rappers out of the south are especially if they do not have another business venture and I'm not talking about a record label or a clothing line.

"I cant believe they gave this a 3/5. It deserves 0" There are at least 4 or 5 bangers on there. It helps to actually listen to the album before criticizing it.

  • sosa tha plug

this website is east coast biased af mane.these uncle tom/college goin ass journalists need to stay on the fan end of the game and leave the reporting to ppl that understand the bi coastal aspect of hiphop.in japan,2chainz can rap.y not here?bcuz willie lynch has made his way into hiphop and its easy to c.any dumb fuck from nyc is forcefed down the ppls throat.i can name a gang of em.and IM SPEAKIN FROM EXPERIENCE IVE RECORDED WIT 50CENT AND A BUNCH OF OTHER MOGULS..down south niggas write with swagger and passion, not lyrics and metaphors..ur bitch gets it.

It's crazy that they will give Ross good ratings and his shit lacks substance and a lot of other rappers who dont say shit (Wayne) but say 2 Chainz lacks substance. He had a solid album that had good ridin music. Fuck wut yal talkin bout

  • hahaha

    • Paul

Exactly what I was thinkin. Ross aint say shit on his album, never does but he has good beats. They still gave that trash a good rating, these people who do the reviews are bias and stupid

    • Kali

Rozay's trash album?Been smoking chicken fingers eh?

  • HQTrashRap

In every sector of this fuckin game there will be bad and good. 2 Chainz falls in the Idiot-Rap genre, which I am not saying I dont bump when im fucked up; but i don't live fucked up (dont consider weed bein fucked up) so when im sober he sounds like the best of the WORST part of rap. Gets u a 3.

  • Anonymous

    lmfao. nice review

  • Its Um

yea some rappers are at their best when they're guest staring, but on their own it's...well showing their limitations. no rating, didn't buy it.

  • BLACK

DAAAAAMN I DONT LIKE THAT SHIT EITHER, BUT TO PUT IT LIKE THAT??? YALL SHITTED ON A NIGGA!!!

  • The Truth

3 Stars? We for real? "If you a chicken-head go somewhere and lay some eggs." This sounds like something a five-year old would say on a playground. Wow, lay some eggs. Nothing says solid music like "lay some eggs." That's what "Old McDonald's Farm" did, lay some motherfucking eggs.

^^^ He's kinda right though. Hip Hop heads go into every fucking with super high expectations, nobody can release club music without getting called wack.

    • Shyne's Pe'ots

This is the dumbest comment I've read on this site. "We have enough serious artist" then you name two people. Who the hell is not a clown on the mainstream level? MMG-Stalley is the exception Good Music-Big Sean is a joke Young Money-Look at the thumbnail of Nicki above. Explains the whole group Roc Nation- I really don't have a problem with them (unless Willow Smith counts) except for the fact that I'm getting very tired of Jay(HE'S IN MY TOP 3) telling me about his daughter and her socks, shoes, bedroom, paintings etc...

    • TruthBeTold

your a fucking idiot, jay runs roc nation. He USED to be CEO of Def Jame but deffinately didn't found it, more so just sat behind a desk for a couple years and rake in a couple hundo mill in the process. 2chainz has nothing to do with illuminati, in fact no one really knows whos part of the illuminati because that would sorta defeat the purpose of "secret group". All you simps keep watching hilariously untrue youtube videos and keep thinking you know whats going on because thats exactly what they want. Your probably into the whole lizard people thing too eh? makes sense.......

    • shitsgettinoldson

c'mon man, stop it already. like the illuminati want to be associated w/ "dumb" rappers... what they sayin anyways? "fuck bitches, get money, take drugs"... that's what illuminati stands for these days? uh, i don't think so.

Congrats. Your the only person who can make up some sort of meaning/understanding to this piece of shit album. Im gonna quote 2chainz here right quick " My album will be one of the best drops this year. Im hoping it will be one of those classic albums." hahahahahahahahahaha

  • Dos Necklaces'

This album is quality, people hating on 2 Chainz hate on a man who is cognitively manipulating and enhancing everything around him and everything that he creates.

  • Anonymous

Sounds like alot of hate. Yeah he isnt the most lyrical. But hes the most entertaining. His music is for ENTERTAINMENT, not to break any boundaries or change the game. People need to stop trying to categorize him in the "i need to make a classic about real shit" group. He just wants to have fun, whats wrong wit dat? Album 3.5/5....def a few bangers on there

  • Anonymous

    worst rapper ever

  • Cas Mill

This album is straight garbage, and this is the dude Kanye wanted to line himself up with. He can't rap at all yeah we need different types of music but this shit is trash. He really needs to start writing down his lyrics because I heard him say he doesn't. Man rap music has really change to where you can say anything and get signed. Def Jam man I lost all respect for your company. At one time yall use to hold youself to a higher standard with people with actual skills. Now yall just trying to making money not stars. There is a way to do both but yall just cheating folks now.

  • Truu

This is so biased he gave it 3 stars yet het didnt even go over any of the albums good parts.

  • DAMNSONSON

  • Anonymous

they dissed the hell out of him in the headline but still give it a 3.

  • Jeff

It's albums like this that make me lose faith in hip-hop. Do lyrics not even matter anymore, do today's artists really have nothing substantial to say? The reviewer was generous giving this a 3, it's worth a 0. I thought Rick Ross' album was the stinker of the year, but this one takes the cake. It was hard to let any of the tracks on this album play all the way through, all I wanted to do was hit the skip button on my iPod. Thankfully new albums from Slaughterhouse and Kendrick are coming up, it's nice to know that some artists still take their lyrics seriously, and have something worth saying.

  • cooper

Mission accomplished. You get what you get when you listen to 2chainz. He makes club music and believe it or not hip-hop needs club music just as much as it needs street rap, intelligent rap etc. What I look like going to the club bumping kweli,Nas,etc. Stop hating and get some damn money!!!! The nigga and I highly doubt some whining ass comments will stop his hustle.

  • Anonymous

"that might be the real reason behind the 2 Chainz phenomenon: He's a rapper that other rappers will endorse because they know he'll bring a certain amount of idiotic energy to their own track while never threatening their dominant status." that about sums it up

T.R.U. stands for Terrible Rapper Undeniably...

You get what you pay for here. Good beats and nothing else. And that's fine, cause dude isn't pretending he's Jay Z.

  • Anonymous

if i was his A@R i would have made him a guest artist on his own album that shit would been fire he give another known artist most of the bars then he come drop his 2 chainz shit real quick and be out hahah

  • iamhiphop

This is just terrible. Just like the guy said, "He's a rapper that other rappers will endorse because they know he'll bring a certain amount of idiotic energy to their own track while never threatening their dominant status. He should stick to that pool."

  • DL Dub

It's actually pretty obvious why this was given a review of 3/5 rather than 2.5 or below. HHDX told him nothin less than that. Because he's definitely ripping 2 chainz apart as an artist, and righrfully so. But niggas love 2 chainz. HHDX has had so many 2 chainz articles it makes no sense to give him all that face time and then completely trash his album with anything less than a 3. So it's clear that this reviewer didnt want to give him a 3, but higher ups said nah. He gets points for energy and enthusiasm, but I called this for a long time 2 chainz is a mixtape/guest rapper. I knew his album was gonna be awful long before it came out. I agree that he's hilarious and really feels his own raps. But now it's getting to the point where I'm laughin at him for trying so hard to be a better rapper, and that's far less impressive than just being a funny guy

  • Anonymous

I have to give this album 2 stars because i loved his bullshit style but after listening two the entire album really started not to like it. Many of his bars dont even make since! Its a weak and disappointing album and i image he wont be talked about at all in a year or two.

  • Anonymous

why the fuck is he working with g.o.o.d music i dont get it?

  • jg

I never listened to 2 Chainz so I gave this album a chance. It sucked. Not only are 2C's raps wea, but his voice is harsh and annoying and beats are simple and repetitive. "Yuck" is the only fun song on there with a tight beat u can rock to. But as the review said you will be enjoying Weezy's hook more than 2C's verses. I would given it 2/5.

I don't like Ross but his verse on Devil in a New Dress was pretty dope.

You're right about everything except the RED Album. [2]

I knew.... Wayne and Ross never showed anything on the high level Game was on once. Ross' best verse is on Accident Murderers, the only track I don't get annoyed by him. Wayne is a great Chorus-rapper, he ain't bringing dope verses. Game brought 1 classic, a westcoast-classic, a mediocre album with some great songs and a fire album with just some fillers. Obviously he would make a better album than Wayne and Ross

You're right about everything except the RED Album. That album has some fillers on it, but the dope tracks are fuckin crazy. Who knew Game would drop a better album than Wayne and Ross

Not a bad review, and one that is difficult to disagree with, but you probably need a bit more positive words to back up the 3 stars.

The reviewer sure rips the album apart for a 3/5 rating. I think you have to want to listen to this kind of music to enjoy it, just like Rick Ross, Waka Flocka, etc. The album isn't terrible but obviously nothing classic.

He's a rapper that other rappers will endorse because they know he'll bring a certain amount of idiotic energy to their own track while never threatening their dominant status. He should stick to that pool.

  • 3 stars is being nice this album sucks

Throughout the album, Chainz kicks a series of amazingly flimsy rhymes that most times have him coming off like the resurrection of a character from Chris Rock's gangsta rap parody CB4 but without the knowing humor.
