Whether he's acting as B.o.B. or Bobby Ray, there is a groundbreaking artist at work here, despite an evident formation of identity.

Whether you know him as B.o.B. or Bobby Ray, the man born Bobby Ray Simmons is a truly gifted individual. Even before his huge radio success with “Nothin’ On You,” listeners became aware of B.o.B.’s talents on the microphone, behind the sound board and on live instruments throughout various projects in the last five years, which eventually earned him a spot on T.I.’s Atlantic/Grand Hustle imprint. Now, with the sky being the limit, B.o.B. offers up his debut The Adventures of Bobby Ray.

The versatility that B.o.B encapsulates is evident from the outset of the album. “Don’t Let Me Fall” , an inspirational record filled with piano keys and guitar licks paints him as an innocent soul willing his way through the universe with a musical purpose. That is contrasted with the aggressive wall of sound in “Fame” , complements of producer and early mentor Jim Jonsin. With the entertainment business in mind, Bobby Ray points out the many flaws in reaching a certain status of celebrity, something he himself has likely dealt with in recent times. To cap it off, B.o.B. takes on a Rock star approach with “Ghost In The Machine,” which spotlights his vocal and production capabilities.

An important aspect of having so much artistic range is being able to harness it, and for the most part B.o.B. takes on this task well. Having said that, a handful of tracks don’t crossover as smoothly as others, including the uber-Pop performance on “Magic.” With Rivers Cuomo of Weezer singing the chorus, B.o.B. submits a clear nominee for the “When Genre Mash-ups Go Wrong” award, which brings us to another point; there’s nothing wrong with going outside the box especially in the Hip Hop arena as long as it’s done in good taste. Attempting to describe his days as a youth on “The Kids” B.o.B.’s elementary rhymes overshadow an otherwise nice duet with Janelle Monae. Also, while it’s nice to hear B.o.B.’s musical appreciation for Vampire Weekend in a song, it isn’t necessary to take a melody and hook right out of their catalog to prove it. Then there’s “Lovelier Than You,” an acoustic ballad that sounds more fitting as a b-side or unreleased track used for occasional live settings rather than a record primed for a full-length album.

Despite these pitfalls, B.o.B. proves he is able to craft an exemplary record when it counts, such as the aforementioned hit single “Nothin’ On You” or “Airplanes” , a metaphoric record that highlight’s his journey from the beginning to now. Enlisting Paramore’s Hayley Williams for the chorus, the 21-year-old rocker handles the duties perfectly. Taking a more southern, funky route, B.o.B. drops some serious swagger with “5th Dimension.” On this record, B.o.B. makes his best case as to why people compare him to Andre 3000; the inflections in his rhyme pattern, the vocal breaks impartial to the beat, these attributes are reminiscent of Three Stacks. Also, peat his first eight bars: “Girl, I’m eons and eons beyond these peons / Another human like me, there will never be one / The planet that I’m from I can’t even speak on / The stars is what I sleep on, the moon I put my feet on / The way my aura glows you swear I’m made of neon / Cooler than the Freon that’s in your Dodge Neon / They see the future’s now, to me it hasn’t begun / Stay tuned to me and there will never be a rerun.”

Even with The Adventures of Bobby Ray and a half dozen projects prior to its release, it still feels like we’re figuring out who this 21-year-old Georgian is. Maybe we can blame his decision to recruit a number of high-profile guests (Eminem, T.I., Lupe Fiasco,), who he ends up taking a back seat to when it comes time to show and prove. Maybe it’s because of his inclination to refrain from choosing one path of music to highlight. Or maybe he simply wants his identity to remain a mystery (as evident on “Past My Shades” ). Whether he’s acting as B.o.B. or Bobby Ray, there is a groundbreaking artist at work here, despite an evident formation of identity. Like Kid Cudi's Man On The Moon: The End of Day last year, the new class is learning from their predecessors and offering bold, risk-taking debuts.

I've been an avid Underground Hip-Hop follower for years: The Roots, Common, Public Enemy, Cormega, Tech N9ne, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, O.C., Pharoahe Monch, etc... That being said, I listen to EVERY artist at least once...and to say that mainstream is untalented is obviously wrong when you have talents like Eminem and Kanye...I've been hoping a younger rapper would come in and at least preserve Hip-Hop... To be truthful, I think B.o.B is it...while he's not a lyrical master, he has talent and I think he will grow and only become better...Buy this album...I think Hip-Hop needs younger talent to arrive before the older guys like KRS and Nas and Rakim are gone.... :) Because of all I believe this album will produce, I give it a 4/5 :)

  • Vegard Møller

Lyrically he's just ok, but that's really the only thing holding the record down. 4 stars!

  • RandomFollowa

Good album but I hated "Bet I" and many song were just average. 3.5/5

  • Dirt Dog

Why cant you faggots on this site complaining just listen to underground rap, its 10X better and there's a classic album every year. "Hip hop is dead", no. Mainstram Hip Hop just sux dick.

  • B1GP1MP1N

So if a nigga aint spitting the same BS lines about cars and hoes he is considered soft? He has a unique refreshing sound that hopefully will be around a while.

  • jhuntdaprodigy

This is definitely a dope album, it's not perfect, it has it's flaws, but I have a gut feeling that Bobby Ray is going to improve and deliver even more on his 2nd album, which I can't wait to see him do. One more thing: Magic, The Kids, & Lovelier Then You all go hard, they aren't low points, lol

  • Duey

Absolutely class, easily the best album I've heard this year!

  • jamezy

bobby is a fucking genius. he can rap, he can sing, write melodies shit most people in the game cant do. hes even introducing lot of people into hiphop and changing the stereotype of violent mcs. hes just a mellow fellow

  • big braveheart

I've rated a 4 but it's close to a 4.5. Dope, fresh, original and uplifting and there is nothing negative i can say about this lp. B.o.B is cool with the lyrics and the music is great, i can see why some might not like it but music is about being creative and original and this is certainly that, this boy is talented and the south is starting to get the credit it really deserves. Liked the mixtape and can't see why the track ' I Am The Man' with Bun B & OJ da Juiceman ain't on here as that was a real banger!! Nothin' On You, Airplanes and Past My Shades are all top notch, nice album!

  • ::Paxa Pax::

too boring...Hip Hop needs martian shit like Weezy F. Baby:)

  • Class

Solid album. He's innovative, and can rap, sing, and produce, he brings something new to the game. Just cause it's not your kinda sound dosent mean it sucks.Stop acting like fucking kids, and except Hip Hop dosen't have to sound the same.

  • MYLIE

too much prop crap on this.

  • Hoodcrusha

B.S. or B.O.B or whatever his fuckin name is sucks! Another dumpass rapper maken the talkin about the same old dump shit. He poluten are airwaves, shits fuckin up our atmosphere.

  • TheBigD

Maybe Album Of The Year!! :o

    • JavMart

Maybe according to the Grammys or Billboard's Top 40. But this album is the poppiest sounding shit ever. The whole thing is a sing-along, Z100-friendly mess of pop. Only white girls 18-24 should bump this album, cuz this is most certainly not a hip-hop album, let alone album of the year. Uff that ish!

    • lolgtfo

      sorry thats for distant relatives

  • sashaj

A little to Pop for me....I wouldn't even go as to call this Hip-Hop TBH...But some tracks are hot (airplanes, past my shades). Its a good summer album for chilling wit a chick and just having a good time but i do not by any means respect B.o.B. as a rapper...hes more of an 'artist'..All in all its enjoyable

    • maverik

thats what music is all about pimpin.. its about creativity n versatility, being an actual artist.. thats exactly what hip hop lost over the past decade.

  • BIGSAVAGE88

    wack album , girly rap

  • Mattweezy

An extremly dope album. MOre like a 4.5/5 but hey. This album was not what i expected after only hearing the "NOTHIN ON YOU" song. He is pretty much the dirty south KId Cudi. This is awesome music; from Airplanes, to 5th Dimension, to Bet I, its just hard to complain with this stellar effort.

  • Good Album

really good album. not ur standard hip hop album (ie guns, hoes and/or amazing lyrically wordplay)... but its a very nice way of interpreting rap. its a different style, it brings diversity to rap, its a very well put together album. im not gonna say every track was tight, but every track showed ppl something from B.o.B. that was different. Weather it was his lyrics/wordplay, his flow, his singing/melody, etc. i would diffently recommend this album to ppl. an artist to keep hip hop alive, after the brutal raping that the young money crew, soulja boy, etc. has given it

  • gnarjar

I actually bought this album and was extremely disappointed. Every track besides airplanes is wack. This is like a pop album. Absolute dog shit.

  • Kay W

Its not a bad album , just not really diggin the style , 3 starz for airplanes part 1 en 2 and don't let me fall

  • HHFAN

Excellent album. I don't give out my 5x's easy either. It's nice to hear a rap album that isn't about trapping or rapping about trapping. If it's not for artist like B.o.b., Common, Lupe, Kanye, Kudi, Blu, and a few others, rap would all sound like Wacka Flocka Flame or Souljah Boy. Only rap fans can complain if an album or artist has influences outside of drum kicks and samples.

  • DJ Transition

I didnt yet see that Hiphop DX gave Tha Carter 3 a 3.5 which is stupid, but this album was good. It's what I expected from B.o.B and songs like Nothin' On You, Airplanes 1 & 2, and Don't Let Me Fall are the highlights, but overall the album is nice

  • Phillips

Carter 3 gets 3.5 and this gets 4? What a fucking joke...for all those that complained Carter 3 was too commercial this is FAR MORE COMMERCIAL and no where near as good. Shitty site.

    • fuckyung$

      drake is lil wayne

    • tha620hawk

Maybe you should go back and listen to the 3rd grade lyrics in "A Millie". Or maybe the played out auto tune of "Lollipop". This kid has a style to call his own......Unlike the many auto-tune dr. suess rappers of now adays. Is it me or does Drake and Wayne have the same style?!?!?!

    • Phillips

i gave it a 3 though because i can appeciate good music and this is good no hate..

  • Bob36

This album sounds really soft not that i don't like rock/pop influences, this is just not good.

  • Steven81

Not an instant classic, but a solid first album. 5 stars for the sake of artists like B.o.B who are here to save the game.

  • harris89

i don't mind some rock/pop influenced music but this dude's such a fucking fruit....

  • wussupworld

He had good verses but those fucking chorus's...those fucking chorus's

  • sjobe

    Best album since Attention Deficit

  • Quinn Jones

    heres my rating

  • Quinn Jones

one of the best of the year, got it last week and it blew me away that he could sing like that, it was a trip, need more diversity like that in hip hop.

  • micah dancy

BOB drop an innovated album that hip hop needs to listen to and accept

  • chris 357

this album is wack i want my money back dont say that alot but this shit is more then wack bobby ray has a lot of hit n miss tracks in there big up to the kid WIZ oj & kush kills this wack effort by bobby ray

    • wow226

  • hip POP

go download jadakiss new mixtape fuck this garbage here

  • sylnc

to the people think tin that b.o.b sold out you are fuckin stupid. b.o.b been makin music like this since he came out. this is nothin new for b.o.b. the only song that i dont listen to is magic. i do agree that "can i fly" and "not lost" should have takin the place of lovelier than u and ghost in the mahine but overall its a great album to me

  • holdupni66asholduphos

    box of wine

  • yamamasman

    B.O.B. go hard...worth tha money

  • yamamasman

    B.O.B. go hard...worth tha money

  • AJS

This album is pretty damn good. The only song I skipped on after listening again was that whack Magic song. It isn't whack because it is upbeat, it is whack because it sucks. How can you even compare it to Hey Ya? Also wasn't a fan of Janelle Monae on the Kids. Other than those two though everything else ranged from decent to great. Not pop at all, unless pop just means being different now. This is just good hip-hop music.

  • steel city kid 44

i dont understand why everyone is pickin on "magic"... its supposed to be an upbeat, funky, light-hearted fun song holy shit people calm down!! are you really going to ridicule b.o.b. for having fun in the studio and having fun in music? and how is this song that different than "hey ya" by outkast? everyone lovvvved that song and its almost the same damn concept!! you all need to listen to track #16 on the "Hi, my name is B.o.B." mixtape, it makes fun of all you ppl who think rappers need to mug all the damn time and be hard

    • MightyMike27

I meant "Hey Ya" is one of the greatest Hip Hop Songs ever... (Top25)

    • MightyMike27

Wow... "Hey Ya" is Hip Hop songs ever.. lol Probably top 25... "Magic" is too fruity for me.. I admit it kinda puts me in a good mood... But If I see you listening to that track, I'm probably gonna laugh at you... Half of the songs on the album are good but the ones that stand out are fucking lame and for kids... that's awesome though.. cuz I'm tired of seeing these misleaded ignorant fucks being brainwashed by SoujaBoy. So cool.. Maybe B.O.B is onto something, brining good music back to "kids".. But this shyt ain't for grown men lol, well idk, shyt sounds grade A Pop Music

  • Marc Aurelius

Solid effort I guess. I wasn't expecting much. he had potential even if he sounds like 3000. I'm all for evolving sound in hip hop and what not, but this is not it. Music is losing it's soul with the likes of Gaga all day on the radio. No one has integrity anymore. Who's fighting the beast these days. i like my hip hop with a bit more of a subversive sound. It's okay to be different, but you shouldn't have to pander to sell records. Hope Blu and J. Coles stay tru.

    • Mike is an idiot...

Ur retarded dude. It's not hip pop. It's the concept of the album u stupid fuck. Just becuz he doesn't have to rap aboutselling drugs, killing niggas, bitches and hoes he "sold out." Drink a bottle of Haterade (purple color u queer bate) and get the fuck off the forum if your too ignorant to understand what B.o.B was trying to do w/ this album. dumbshit.

    • MightyMike27

Agrreeedd son.. Hope Blu and J.Cole stay true, cause Wale and B.O.B sure as hell didn't (Hip Pop)

  • MG1

What u guys don't seem to get is this is a concept album. This is Bobby Ray speaking/singing for most of this album. It's a different personality than B.o.B. Just like Eminem has his "slim shady" personality B.o.B has different dual personalities he uses to express himself artistically. If you didn't like stuff from the "Bobby Ray" half of the B.o.B vs Bobby Ray mixtape you probably won't feel this album as much. It's a different look for hip hop, but I for one applaud the attempt. I like to hear someone "different" than most stereotypical rappers these days. That is not to say this album was without it's flaws. One of the huge ones to me was the fact that he included SUPER OLD songs on his album. Wtf dawg? Seriously? I heard Ghost In the Machine almost a year ago. It was on the FREE MIXTAPES u put out to hype this shit. Your going to make me pay for something you already gave me for free? There are a few others i've heard from a while ago but that one seriously stands out to me. Why not put in a good song like "Not Lost" with T.I. instead of that? 3/5. Good album. I listen to it, but not without it's flaws.

  • SoHye

I like B.o.B but this album was disappointing. His mixtapes were hot, like "May 25" but the album was nothing like his mixtapes. a few good songs on the album but thats it. B.o.B needs to come back strong cuz im starting to think he dont got it. he's still nice in my book but t he album only gets 3 x's smdh

  • hovakraft

I think what some of you still fail to understand is that not every hiphop artist can drop albums about killing niggas and killing niggas and killing niggas. (I think I just killed three in that last sentence) Some have to try and push hiphop in different directions if this music is ever to survive. Whats killing hiphop...all you fuckas downloading shit illegally niggas gottas eat an you taking food out peoples mouths.

    • kanye fan

yo man what they fuck are you talking about mighty mike, this is good hip-hop, it may not be the best rap but it's some good hip-hop and good music at that, some of the tracks may not be the best out and it might've been stupid not to put certain tracks on the album but this is still good music....and idk what you mean with Wale sold and went pop, the dude is the truth and is a soulful artist and one of the best newcomers in the game, saying that Wale sold out is blashphemy fam

    • chris 357

yo fam i've been followin this dude for a hot minute now but this shit is trash this aint hip-hp its more like that shit rich white boys play on there ipods

    • MightyMike27

Bro I don't really listen to anything about killing niggas... unless it's probably Big, Pac, Pun, Em, Freeway's new album and Mobb Deep's "Infamous" lol.... I love good music brah, Com, Lupe, Cudi, Tip, CH........... And I loved B.O.B but just cuz this ain't about killing niggas, doesn't make it "good"... This album is trash. B.O.B sold his soul already.. just like Wale.... "Magic"? listen to that song ppl. if you like that song, don't talk to me ever......... lol

  • ektor|

this is a pop album like wale this freshmen of 09' this niggas only wanna sell im not hatin im just sayin the reality i wanna heard more hip hop no less hip hop

  • grover

don't get me wrong lupe fiasco = sick kid cudi = sick drake = sick j. cole = sick this though is just garbage, seriously what the f***? it's not good in a mainstream way, it's not good in an alternative way. it's just rubbish man.

  • d79

    Sorry...Not feeling this!

  • Pirus

Album of the yeah. PERIOD !

  • MightyMike27

People who are saying that Hip Hop is dying need to do some fucking research. 3 reasons why Hip Hop is not dead and will not die... 1 - Asher Roth, Blu, J.Cole, Charles Hamilton, etc.. are rookies putting out classics. I had B.O.B and Wale on that list but their debut albums are garbage POP albums. But B.O.B's only like 22 so he still young I guess.. 2 - Lupe Fiasco. 3- Kanye, Jay, Em, Common, and Q-Tip are all still going their thing and it seems like their evolving with the talent and it doesn't seem like their going anywhere.. If you think Hip Hop is dead check out these tracks from these rookies and your gonna look em up and follow them more closely.. B.O.B - "Left Field" Blu - "Dancing In The Rain" CH - "Loser" J.Cole - "Dreams" PeaCe!!

  • B_Lett

I'm rating the album of a 5 because of the 12 songs on it, and the 6 or so bonus songs that you can get by purchasing it in different ways. This isn't pop. This isn't hip hop. This isn't rock. This isn't any of that. It's alternative. It's something different. Besides the two Airplanes songs, nothing on this CD sounds alike. That's what you should be happy about. He brings something different to the plate every song he releases. I can't even try and put songs like "Ghost in the Machine" or "Satellite" into one genre. B.o.B is accomplishing what your favorite rapper wishes they could. He fits into any style of music comfortably. Very strong album, about twice as strong if you add the bonus songs.

  • stupidniggazdiesoon

yo this the bomb any nigguh hating must reallyh like gucci and oj da rtard man

  • jihod

Very solid debut, lots of new ideas & a breath of fresh air. Finally a southern rapper who truly respects his craft. Not the best rapper in the world but shockingly creative.

  • ZeTroof

#1 Reason why hiphop is dying... you internet thugs who CONTINUE TO HATE ON QUALITY MUSIC it's sad to read every single hiphop album review on the net and see that there are more hate comments than positive ones. if yall feel hiphop is dead, DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT, release shit that you think is better instead of constantly whining on the internet. For true music lovers out there, this album is great. Not a classic by any stretch, but still a great album overall. DO NOT let internet thugs sway your opinion...because they hate on literally "everything."

  • I'm at work and bored

ahahahaha, 4 stars? This is better than Relapse? Seriously?

    • BigTam

dude everyone is always complaining about how hip hop isnt wat it used to be. that is atually the most consistent thing about hip hop. people have been pining for the old days since like '92 and before...steadily. i actually think we're in a much better place now than 2000-2006 era.. Even with the hipster shit, there's much more diversity and creativity in the music.

  • ArcyP13

i bet his next album is going to be called "Bobby Ray Presents The Adventures Of B.o.B"

  • ArcyP13

I don't know why everyone is complaining so much. the album is called The Adventures Of Bobby Ray. if anyone of you followed B.o.B. you would know that Bobby Ray is his singing persona. so the name of the album The Adventures Of Bobby Ray should have given it away that this is what the album was going to sound like.

  • i need a refund

this cd is a strong 3. reason why it isnt higher, is because it is truly in the wrong genre. this should be in the same lane as that danger mouse duo....he steals nelly's style of sing/rap. which is cool but if you are going to call it hip hop, then it should be hip hop. lupe and em had the strongest verses on the cd. i need a refund.

    • th3paintbrush

...what I have a problem is the need to have labels for everything. Hip-Hop isn't just Rap... Hip-Hop music should be a reflection of the times, and the fact that it takes from so many other genres of music it can't be welded down as just one type of sound. This dude is true to himself, and talks of his life. At least he's not frontin' or fakin'. This is more Hip-Hop than these lames you guys glorify. ...and he sounds nothing like Nelly. He actually sings...

  • Hate-Elitist

You Elitist assholes, who keep bitching about it being pop need to stfu, the album is dope its as simple as that. Yeah alot of the stuff in the mainstream is crap, but that doesn't mean everything that sounds different is bad.

  • CrownMe8

Honestly B.o.B is dope but this album certainly does not live up to all the hype it recieved. I would say out of the 12 tracks on this album I only really liked 5. The album started off strong and towards the middle started to drag. Even the Airplanes Remix with Eminem didn't sound as great as it looked on paper. B.o.B is a capable lyricist but he has a way to go before he can even be mentioned in the same breath as most of the MCs he has been compared to and co-signed by. Other than that his voice on the mic is ehhhh to say the least. I dont know. A dope album that is slightly about average, nothing more.

  • RJF

"ya'll are calling his album pop because its different" ^^^^^^ Because it is stupid! Nothing but commerical songs is not different it is Pop

    • researchhh

I AGREE ITS POPPITY POP AS A MUTHAFUCKA! THE EMINEM TRACK IS THE ONLY 1 I REALLY GOT INTO !! I MISS NATE DOGG

  • TimIAm

Seen him in Denver last night. Dude puts on a mean show!

  • Boston Steve

sick cd man j.cole is up next check out some other good shit here www.myspace.com/vtstatus support your upcoming hip hop its me let em know yall opionions

  • hovakraft

Outta the Wale and Cudi drops, methinks this is the better of the three.....yo J Cole it's time nigga.

  • B REEL

    BOO BOO! This album stinks

  • abstrakt_thawt

really expected more after the solid mixtapes has the stench of major label bullshit all over it

  • baddixon2006

Man dis album is hard as hell... ya'll are calling his album pop because its different . I mean after a while you get tired of hearing the same thing over and over. He just brought another elimeant to the game. You my call it pop, but to me its just differnt and thats why that shit hit so hard.

  • MADDHAVIK

BOB go hard. When I first heard him a couple years ago, he was on some more shit. That ignorant shit is goin the way of the cassette, even though I love me some gangsta shit, this dude is bringin in the new decade with some good, new hip hop.

  • HoustonTx

This album was good musically but for the hip hop community it was just another pop album trying to sell. I got respect for the guy though. He just needs to channel his energy more into hip hop.

  • C-ARSON

This is a very pop album. I'm not saying it isn't good but I'm not buying it. A lot of tracks are like sesame street chorus's, I wanted a more hip hop sound, i guess I'll just stick to bob's mixtapes.

    • SnapCracklePop

Eh, A more pop sound does sell, everyone who is trying to make it has to do it a little bit. Just hopping releases after this show his true talent and artistic vision. I like this album and maybe because I hadn't caught on to him before this but after I heard his mixtapes I could still rock this album with not to much of a problem. I can see where your coming from though, gotta make something to get these preteens screaming at concerts.

    • MightyMike27

      Agree with you 100%

  • DaMadDominican

I think this was ok, I have to get the album and listen to it myself then I'll tell you better but what I heard here was ok. He got me with "nothing on you" but to be honest the chorus and the beat is what got me on that song. The only other song i heard on here today that caught me was "Don't let me fall" but there are parts on it that should've been left out of the song. "Airplanes" was cool, the beat for "Fame" is real nice but he ruined the track for me. I guess its gonna be hit or miss with him listen first and decide for yourself if you want to pay for the album after.....Peace!!

  • MILLZ_315

yall could listen to it if yall didnt have them nigga ears

  • stl_will

he's good but fuck all this pop shit.

    • Black Admiral

I like him , but this what I expected when I saw what lable he signed on...some cats love the music but crave the spotlight....So they chose a little less creative control to get the machine behind them ......

    • MightyMike27

True that sons... At least I'm not the only one who see's it... Album is lame POP shyt... I could put a way better album of him together with all his past tracks from his mixtapes and wat not..

    • BALLS

Yeah man...by these corny, commercial-ass songs, its obvious he's really tryin to sell records. This dude definitely got skills, but for the most part, I can't listen to these songs.....

  • jacobchr

not a fan of this rap gone pop bs

  • Dontusuallyreview

I didn't think this was nearly as good as his May 25th mixtape...just wasn't enough solid rhyming or dope beats, it was way more poppy.

  • sever246

its more like a 4 and a half but ill round up...dont let me fall, kids, ghost in the machine and both airplanes are all great songs...all the other songs are solid except for bet i

  • kpanilaryea28

im not gonna rate it because its just not for me. i just cant really get into it. im sorry i just like that boom bap shit so much it be hard fa me to listen to this.

  • Zion You

Can't decide if I wanna buy or not

    • MightyMike27

I was gonna buy it.. But than I heard some lame ass songs from it..(Airplanes, Magic, The Kids) and I downloaded it.. Than decided that it was garbage.. "The Kids"is cool until sum chick kills the song...

  • YungGinge

Love this album, best album out this year so far.

    • MightyMike27

Well none of those songs were on the album.. "Can I Fly", "Letters From Vietnam", "Satellite" and "Not Lost".. lol So I need to check out them.. I heard "Can I Fly" and it's pretty dope.. Ofcourse I heard "Satellite"... But the songs on THE ALBUM.. Are lame as hell.. "Magic"? Are you serious.. B.O.B vs Bobby Ray should have been his 1st album.. "Left Field" is his best song in my opinion., short but sweet.. I'm just not digging the new album.. Shyt is LAME... PeacE!

    • B_Lett

No, this album is definitely better than May 25th. And when it comes to mixtapes B.o.B vs Bobby Ray was his best mixtape. No DJ shoutouts on it, and it had like 20 quality songs. The album though is pretty sick in my opinion. And "Ghost in the Machine" is one of the sickest songs I have ever heard from any genre of music. From the bonus songs, "Not Lost," "Letters From Vietnam," "Can I Fly," and "Higher" are all sick. Oh and don't forget "Satellite." That is one of B.o.B's best songs. I've played "Satellite" probably more than any other song in my life, I had that on repeat last summer, and now the remastered version is definitely going to be on my playlists again. This album deserves gold at the least, but it'll probably do 200k-ish in the end.

    • MightyMike27

Maybe You Should check out Freeway & JakeOne... B.O.B put out a mixtape called "May25th" that was better.. Is a mixtape really supposed to be better than an album? Disappointment..

  • MightyMike27

Garbage... B.O.B... WTF man... Your better than this POP Disney Bullshyt... Don't Let Me Fall, Nothing On You and Past My Shades are the only good songs.. "Lovelier Than You" is aight but there's a better version of it where it's just him and the guitar.. "The Kids" is cool up until that chick comes on and ruins the song.. WTF B.O.B... I was one of your biggest fans... It's all good plenty of up and comers. Hopefully they don't go the same POP route as B.o.B and Wale... Garbage ass debuts... PeaCe!

    • MightyMike27

Sorry brah, I listen to both.. The track overall, the album overall... Shyt is grade A POP disappointment.. Wale and B.O.B have both turned into Label Puppets... If you like it though... That's cool... I'd rather this dude be in the spotlight rather than Gucci Mane, Souja Boy, Birdman and the rest of the ignorant fucks...

    • Sorafan2

Maybe you should listen to the lyrics instead of the music..it really helps...

    • Sorafan2

Maybe you should listen to the lyrics instead of the music..it really helps...

  • Nothin On You

Start to finish no "bad" songs. Hayley Williams on the Airplane songs makes it eerie and I absolutely love it. PROPS!

  • @RonaldRanier

This is a very solid LP! I'm proud of my fellow Georgian! I did a review on my site! Enjoy -BoiGeniusInc.com

  • skjs

definitely better than wales debut... nothing wrong with good honest pop rap like this. b.o.b keeping his integrity

  • slickyaboi

Good album man... Music>Hip Hop. C.H. Is up next...

  • lizord

Perfect debut for a hip hop artist nowadays. Unfortunately if this shit was hard it wouldnt sell, but thats not necessarily where b.o.b is at anyway. If you get to see him live do it. Hes incredible.

  • aintnuthin

i wish ther was more shit i could just bump in the whip. my thing is that he said he wanted to do a lot of production and have his live band on it and shit but he aint produce shit on this album i feel like that is on atlantic. he is a creative dude but that major is gonna hold him down like they did on this album. comin up his stuff was great but wasnt as main stream. now it is so mainstream it is almost bad.

  • risrob2

    Album was trash!!!!!

    • ________________

it's possible to be a fan of someone so much that your image shapes to match theres, don't be an asshole and enjoy the music he makes. if you don't like it then i respect your opinion but don't call B.o.B a thief.

    • billing1

This dude is a thief. He sound like a big fan of Andre 3000. Totally jacking his style!! What happened to originality in Hip Hop???

  • 123455

quality review, like the comparison to man on the moon - album is strong, no real 'skip songs', a few bangers, and shows range while still be coherent in my humble opinion... glad to see young rappers like b.o.b, cudi, j cole and others getting back to "the music"

  • E.S.S

It was short but sweet. You can play it the whole way through without skipping. My only problem is why they didn't just put the bonus tracks on it, and make it a 16 track or so album. Oh well, I copped it for 7.99 so I can't complain

  • Gods_Son23

not for me, the production is not my thing - reminds me Kid Cudi's album which i also don't enjoy.

  • lupendFnF

    Really nice. nonstop listens

  • sfa

    good album...nothing more

  • bleakofase

This is my third purchase of the year alongside Statik Selektah's "100 Proof" & Devin The Dude's "Suite 420" This album blends so many genre's together and it does it perfectly. I got nothing bad to say about it minus the fact that i wish "I'll Be In The Sky" was included but regardless it was worth my money and my time.

  • D.D.410wutup

forgot to rate. And seriously people.. Not a lot of albums deserve a 1 star rating..

  • D.D.410wutup

I love this album.. It was worth my money.. Hip hop is not dead. It just changed. This album is gonna be on repeat for a while..

    • carloskabarlos

i agree hip hops just evolving. You cant have "boom bap" for the next 50 years(as much as i like it). Just because its different doesn't make it bad.

  • Gman

this dude is doing something big. He is changing the face of pop music for the better. He has a great message, fairly good lyrical ability, and crossover appeal. Maybe the hip hop we hear on the radio will start having some substance. Plus that track with em is off the chain!

  • Newschool

This shit is great. Musically really impressive. Lyrically even more impressive.

  • paidinfull92

From the first time i heard a B.o.B. track a couple yrs back i knew this guy would make some great music i would enjoy. I'm sooooooo fuckin glad B.o.B. is gonna see some nice money, he def deserves it. Keep makin real music Bobby. Just ran out and bought it.

  • Jae Havoc

Big disappointment, but then, Im not a huge B.O.B. fan to begin with. Besides maybe like two tracks, the album is pretty boring and predictable. There needs to be a review of the Dark Time Sunshine album put up. That joint was dope as fuck AND original.

  • William Munnerlyn

FINALLY! some REAL music. Itz about time we've gotten some REAL music especially in hip-hop.

  • Boomakat

its been so long since someone has heard what MUSIC (MUSIC) "MUSIC" !!MUSIC!! sounds like that when they do hear it..they dont recognize it... damn shame.. this album is perfect...as in flawless, as in amazing!

  • LilWayne@rikersisland.com

wow dx finally gave a four wow just fuckin wow. all you fuckers saying this aint shit should seriously kill yo self . one of the best cd's of 2010 bitches till i droop tha carter 4 when i get out ... simply da bomb s.o.b. brrrrrrrrrrrrr ahaaaaaaaaaaaaa juniorrrrrrrrrrr i see you daddy ill be back soon niggaz weezeyyyyyyyyy

  • N.Y. StateOfMind

Great album. All of you downing the fact that this shit can be played on the radio are stupid. It's not his fault that he knows how to combine his talent for rapping and his eye for green. All of the songs that you call "pop" have some seriously lyrical verses on them. Buy this album. You won't regret it.

  • MightyMike27

Simply disappointing.. Wale went downhill with his debut-(he went from doing tracks with Talib Kweli to Gucci Mane)... B.O.B is headed down the same path. This CD is trash.. I LOVE!!! ALL of B.O.B's mixtapes.. But this CD is just too POP. He does too many Collaborations. Nothing but POP ass R&B hooks.. B.O.B can sing and rap, he doesn't need noone to be doing his hooks. He got Hannah Montana and Eminem on one track.. WTF man... Don't Let Me Fall and Past My Shades are good, "The Kids" is cool until that chick comes in who absolutely kills the song (in a negative way)... I Like B.O.B but not as much as I used to after listening to this garbage... Cudi and Asher still the only rookies who put out good debuts...

    • Jmacin

it was haley williams not hannah montana moron

    • Jmacin

it was haley williams not hannah montana dumbass

    • itsizzo

thats not hannah montana. its a singer of a rock band. why the fuck would Em do a song with hannah montana? and about the rookies, Asher's album was good. But Cudi's was simply alright.

    • damn

Wale went downhill with his debut-(he went from doing tracks with Talib Kweli to Gucci Mane)... B.O.B is headed down the same path. _____________________________________________________________ only part i agree with ^^

    • paidinfull92

      Wow just wow

    • DutchMasters Music

I don't know if you can even let Cudi and Asher off the hook either. Their albums came out pretty much the exact same as this.

  • rkonmd

Every year, i buy a few albums..this will be one of them. Best LP i've heard this year.

  • B_Lett

This will probably be one of the top 5 albums this year of any genre. Even though there are only 12 songs on this album, you still need to look out for the 6 bonus songs out there. "Letters from Vietnam," "I See Ya," "Can I Fly," "Not Lost ft T.I.," "I Feed These Streets," and "Satellite," A good 4 out of those 6 should have definitely been on the album. Overall, these songs will definitely last me through the summer. His mixtape B.o.B vs Bobby Ray lasted me through last summer. I'm sure this album will actually make it throughout the years on my playlists.

  • Cide

I'm actually planning to pay money for this album, that's better than any review haha

  • shaun boiuiii

5 star hips hop.. i bought it

  • joeyknowsnothing

absolute trash. hip hop sucks ass

  • gnastythegreat

4 stars? youve got to be kidding me. im sure if this had a gucci and soulja boy feature these idiots would give it a solid 5...B.o.B=Truth

  • Avramel

I've been waiting for this album for this album since I heard Haterz Everywhere... And I have to say it's great !!!... Album of the year... so far :)...

  • donnnnnnnnnnnnnn

    SICKK!!!!!

  • DY2330

Im listening to the cd right now and theres a few that got some heat others could of been left off. But B.o.B is one of the few that is changing the era of hiphop with his style. like with the gangsta rap in the begining many didnt like it but after awhile it became the new. so like ice-t N.W.A and the pioneers of gangsta B.o.B, Kid cudi and others are introducing fans to a new era of hiphop. and in a way its returning to the roots of were it originated storytelling, fun, and entertaining much like sugar hill gang

    • DY2330

thats one of my many hobbies is reviewing looking up the history of hiphop and listiening too artiss old and new work i constantly study this music if they had a title for that it probably be hiphopologist

    • ismail

wow that was awesome u should have reviewed his album the best thing anyone has said on here xxxxx couldn't have said it better myself

  • DY2330

im listening to the cd right now and from what im hearing is that he is a diffrent artist that people are not use too its a change like it or not its an evolvment from what were use too hearing.some people might like that gang shit but that era is ending. the new era is starting and its begining with the likes of B.o.B and cudi and apprently its coming good

  • fuckThehaters

All you mofuckin bitch ass niggas need to stop complainin bout shit when you all so fuckin ignorant. Yall kno nothing bout concept, or rhythm, or style, so shut the fuck up and go listen to some of that whack ass waka floka bullshit. If you don't like the music, don't listen to it! fuck yall haters, this man is a genius.

  • Chris S

slightly above-average rapping GREAT music he's a very talented individual

  • JOE6PACKNCGBORO336

    NO THANKS

  • icu ucme

You know you're a "Pop Artist" when every song that leaked sounds like a radio track. To-each-his-own, but it's no way in hell I'm supporting this sorry-ass excuse for Hip Hop. And I won't be buying Drakes bullshit album either. Singing ass punks.

    • icu ucme

I fuck with the song he has on his mixtape with J.Cole "Gladiators". And that is it, save Em's verse on that other shit.

    • paidinfull92

Lol so cuz Andre 3000 sings as well that makes him trash. I bet you havent listened to any of B.o.B's mixtapes have ya.

  • KBWS

    REAL MUSIC RIGHT HERE MANEEE

  • A-Rap

Pretty fair review. I have been following this site for 3+ years and if this got a 3.5 I was going to lose my mind. Haha...just seems like every album I anticipate gets that. But in all truth you can't put a number or grade on this album if you love this artist like I do. Yea the album isn't perfect but we are truly in for decades of greatness. I have not been this impressed a long time for the potential which lies ahead. People that have followed bob since his early mixtapes listen to this albu differently than first time listeners. While some of his best work is on here, just wait until he gets more freedom from his label and gets to produce all his tracks. The only other artist that blows my away more is Eminem, and that is great company.

  • lupeisthebestever

best album of the year. Hip hop is not dead, thank god for lupe and b.o.b.

  • WOUZI

DX Y GONNA GIVE IT 4, DIS ALBUM IS FUCKIN CLASSIC. HE REALLY TALK BOUT REAL SHIT

  • kobe55555

    good album stop the hateing

  • Articulate1

This guy obviously has talent...but true heads like myself who know this music inside out will be turned off by the obvious Three stacks biting (even though he is a dope influence), and the sappy, poppy hooks. Why cant these kids just make honest music that doesnt play it safe and water shit down for radio play? The only way to truly push this music forward is to ignore the played out, obsolete radio formats, and make revolutionary, authentic music from the heart.

    • Atlantic doe boi

If Bobby Ray played it safe then he wouldn't make a song dissing auto-tune users. B.o.B (aside from sounding a bit like Andre 3000) has his own style and makes music that no other artist has made before and if u don't agree then u obviously haven't heard his mixtapes. Sure u got that mainstream hit (i.e Nothing on You) but every artists has to have one for the sake of the label and to stay relevant. Shit even biggie had juicy, that had a sappy hook but I don't see u bitchin bout that. B.o.B has a rare talent for balancing out music for his true hip hop fans and making music for everyone else to like as well. He is a great talent and has alot of potential to make it in the industry for years to come

    • DutchMasters Music

Exactly my thoughts. Four swings and misses from Asher Roth, Kid Cudi, Wale, and now B.o.B. in my opinion. And as much as Drake tries to tell me different, I know his album is going to be full of it too.

    • C-ARSON

yeah. It goes a little to pop for me to support.

  • TupacalypseNow

This guy is so lyrical and at the same time knows how to make a hit.

  • nomad

I dig it he really does put you in the mind of a underdeveloped version of andre3000

  • jasonreup2

Definitely the best hip hop album so far this year... This guy is the future!

  • Jason2010

ANYBODY who rated this Album lower than a 4 is hater, real talk...

  • c3po

why is it that R&B singers are going harder than rappers nowadays. I would rather bump a trey songz album than shit bullshit. BoB sounds like a little girl. Thank god for TI and Eminem.

    • Sorafan2

You know...its funny you should mention that because Eminem is on one of the tracks...and B.o.B. is signed to TI's record label so apparently he is not bad if these people you thank God for have him signed and appear on his tracks...

  • c/gaddic

Solid album great range and creativity hardcore rap fans might not like it This is for listeners with a good ear for music in general Wanted to hear him rap more But not disappointed Kid Cudi and B.o.b are hip hop's best new cats we need this musical creativity everyone is rapping about the same shit the same way for too long

  • why

this dude is complete garbage anyone who likes this bullshit is 16 and dumb.and dont tell me he different, hes the same mainstream bullshit whos even worse.i would rather listen to a t pain cd other this fag.

    • paidinfull92

Nah he is way different n nah i aint 16. Listen to the lyrics n message fo you comment some bullshit

  • kingkongg

this album is definately one of the best in a while!

  • kingkongg

    less talkin more listening

  • kingkongg

    nuff said! just listen

  • Freddyfresh

  • WTF-MAN

WTF-MAN SAYS: WTF IS THIS SHIT? FUCKING HOW GARBAGE SOSN! ELEMENTARY RHYMES WEAK, COPIED FLOW GAY SONG CONCEPTS

  • ollie

beautiful music. But in no way is 'the new school' learning from their predecessors' blueprints. If anything, they have learnt from their mistakes. They are breaking away from the mould, not continuing to do the same.

  • flyer31

    Beautiful.....simply beautiful
