Vanilla Ice Disses Wiz Khalifa, Juicy J & Ty Dolla $ign's "Shell Shocked"

Vanilla Ice says that the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" song sounds "artificial," "like a bunch of executives in the corporate world put it together."

Vanilla Ice says that “Shell Shocked,” a song from the forthcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie featuring Juicy J, Wiz Khalifa and Ty Dolla $ign, is not up to par.

"With respect to all of the artists, the song doesn't really do it for me,” Vanilla Ice says during an interview with GQ. "It feels a little artificial. What I mean by that is that it sounds like a bunch of executives in the corporate world put it together. It really does not fit the theme of the Ninja Turtles legend. I think you have to understand, and be a true Ninja, to possess the Magic to really pull off the secret sound.”

In 1991, Vanilla Ice performed “Ninja Rap” for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze. He also appeared in the film as himself.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is slated to arrive in theaters Friday (August 8).

Listen to “Shell Shocked” on HipHopDX here.

Vanilla Ice's "Ninja Rap" is available as follows:

Last year, Vanilla Ice, whose biggest hit was 1990's "Ice Ice Baby," said that he changed the way Rap music was made.

"Sampling barriers, I broke down," Vanilla Ice said at the time. "They made a spectacle out of it and it made it okay for Puff Daddy and everybody else to go make music. They figured it out. There was nobody before me that I could use as a guideline. [I] took rap mainstream. I had the first Rap song that had ever been No. 1 on the Pop charts. The most-sold Rap record in the history of the world, and that’s extreme. 160 million. The fastest-selling [Hip Hop album] of all time, and it still stands today. I don’t think it will ever be broken at this point."

Vanilla Ice.....Bwaaah, haaaaa, haaaaa! O-M-effing-G! What a nerve that guy has! The only thing more worthless than Vanilla Ice is Vanilla Ice's opinion. As if "Go Ninja, go Ninja, go" is a timeless classic or something. Does anybody even REMEMBER that movie or the song......(tumbleweeds roll by)?

    • Anonymous

You must be young af cause those movies were classic. The song was whatever but any 80 or 90's baby remembers those movies. Smh

  • GOLDEN ERA FOREVER FELLA

Look, to all the haters out there, leave V Ice alone, you would ALL have done the corporate thing he done for the cake he made, end of story. And to those saying he couldnt rap etc etc, ask Fabolous who he took his style from on Young'n (Holla Back), ask Pharell who he thinks had a dope ass flow, they will both tell you Vanilla Ice... And he was not a one hit wonder, he had several big hits WORLDWIDE, made some (shit) film appearances, 17 million copies of To The Extreme sold worldwide....was, maybe still is the biggest selling rap album ever....

    • Anonymous

it's true.. V ice has more sales, hits, money, and more bitches then your favorite rapper

    • GOLDEN ERA FOREVER FELLA

@ ANON you don't need to believe me, but google the shit for yourself faggot, listen to Pharell interview with Tim Westwood and hear his comments on Vanilla Ice and how he told Fabolous to jack Vanilla Ice flow from Ice Ice Baby and repeat it on Young'un Holla Back, the proof is out there. Same as his 17 million units sold of To The Extreme, if you can name a rap album that has sold more (in Cam'ron voice) "Let Me Know !!!!!

    • Anonymous

We don't believe you You need more people

i agree wit vanilla, you have to have that late 80's cheesy pizza arcade sound to pull off that vibe, the music has to feel like its from 1988 for that shit to work

  • Anonymous

    go ninja go ninja GO!

  • Anonymous

"@Anon HE JUST DID ASSHOLE" No asshole. He didn't. He basically said the label bought up all the copies which doesn't explain how Ice went on to sell 20 million albums.

  • Anonymous

Vanilla Ice was and is a very smart business man. Say what you want to say, but he's continued to do well for himself. All that cash that he made back in the day went right into buying properties. Now, he has mad loot from his tv shows.

  • Camaro434

Really, Vanilla Ice? You are a one hit wonder so you feel that you have the right to judge music? Fuck your opinion. Nobody in hip hop gives a damn about you or your opinion. If a black guy had put that song out it wouldn't have been that popular. HHDX you do yourself a disservice by reporting what this culture vulture says.

    • Come on

STFU he's right and secondly he's probably one of the nicest celebs I met at work here. Probably alot cooler to talk to than the trio that was on shell shocked.

    • Anonymous

I think that is the point he's trying to make. The fact that he is white and put out a rap album automatically gave his career a lot of attention. How many white rappers were out at the time? He helped rap music become commercialized. He speaketh the truth!

Little known fact in Hip Hop #1397 Fabolous whole rhyme cadence on Holla Back (Youngn Un)was taken directly from Vanilla Ice on Ice Ice Baby. FACT. Please, the record did not sell (single or album) 160 million...might have grossed that in sales (16 mill x $10) but no it did not sell 160 million...

  • R.Pgh

How is he dissing Wiz when he said 'all respect to the artists, but this sounds like it was a corporate song'?

  • Anonymous

That saddest part of this article is that we laughed at Vanilla Ice in the 90's but he was actually better rapper than Wiz, Juicy and Ty.

WORD DX IS FULL OF INSTIGATING FAGGOTS FOR MONEY

  • OVO

When I think about the best rappers, Nas, Pac, and 50 come to mind. But you gotta put Drake up there. People always make the case that he's a "simp" or "soft"... But he tells the truth. He talks about what he knows, which is mostly love. But when he starts sending shots everybody calls him fake. If somebody was coming at you, would you just stand there? Drake never claimed to be something he's not and continues to be on top of the game. Top 5 in the game right now !

    • R.Pgh

Doesn't claim to be something he's not? He's talked about bodying dudes. He talked about how he started from the bottom even though he grew up rich. He talks about love, then talks about being a pimp on the next track. I recognize he has talent, but dude is fake as fuck, just like 90% of the rappers out.

    • thatuncutraw

Now, I'm a Drake fan, but what the fuck does that have to do with this article?

    • Anonymous

      @OVARY sit down sis...

    • Critical

lmfao!!! Drake.... tells the truth! lmfao!!! I am not even going to say anything else, besides LMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • A List

1 - How is this a diss? If I don't like something I'm dissing it? Smh @ DX supporting this whole "if your opinion isn't 'something is great' you're a hater" movement 2 - Dude is right. This song sounds so forced and corny. 3 - His song from the 90's "Go Ninja" that we're all praising was pretty corny too. It's the nostalgia from us being kids back then and not being such negative assholes that makes us think it's great. Yes myself included. 4 - Ice just put his song in a Kraft Mac N Cheese commercial so how can he really say something is corporate and pushed by executives?

  • AD

Vanilla Ice needs to stop hating.

  • nuc

well, he's not saying anything EVERYONE else wasn't thinking.

  • Besus

When VI's label picked up his album, they shipped out 1 million copies. Bought them back up and re-shipped them w/ labels stating its platinum status. Between that and TheBox, that's how is career took off. As stated by others earlier, he didn't break any new ground other than sales figures. It was mostly suburban housewives buying that HitPop for the kiddies.

  • Kwame

Damn.. todays music is CRAP! Hip hop has been killed by corporate greed and fake ass bruthers who can't perform or write ANYTHING decent. All this computer music a 5 year old can do in the basement. Thank god for Jurassics new track! Im so sick of the crap rap. Its time for us all to say ENOUGH is ENOUGH! Bring back real hip hop music.

    • Joe Buttons

ahahahahahaha why u mad tho...taking the time out to type certain words in caps lock n shit lmaoooo i never said Jurassic 5 was trash I said you are a looooooser if you are specifically waiting on them to make the "real hip hop" you like to listen to but seeing as how Jurassic 5 has a demographic of upper middle class suburban white backpack dickhuggers with fat girlfriends, you do you playaaaaaaa

    • D@mn

I went 2 check out J5 based on this comment & gotta admit they did they thing (again)! Thnx

    • Anonymous

fuck u rappin about J5 dropped a couple classics, and STILL bring some original shit to the table. QUIT HATIN FAGGOT. GO listen to ya joe Buddens records

    • polka dots

lmao youre still relying on jurassic 5 to make that real hip hop you can listen to theres a shit load of quality rap coming out nowadays much more than theres been in over a decade turn off your radio, quit bitching, and look online

  • Anonymous

It's funny cos his music is probably still better then 90 percent of these down south sounding hip hop records.

  • DAB

Robert Matthew Van Winkle go sit your old ass down! Yes you had the "fastest' selling album of all times back in 1990 but what have you done for hip hop lately? All your follow up albums flopped and you have resorted to DIY shows!! You did not have a HUGE impact on hip hop at all!! What you did cannot be called hip hop it's more like "play school" rap something that can be heard on Kids Bop.......Wiz has murdered his career long time ago, Juicy I am trying to give him the benefit of the doubt cause he is known for a hot verse here and there and Ty Dolla I cannot take any clown serious that uses "Booga Wolf" as a lyric!

Oh, the irony of that comment.

Vanilla Ice is entitled to his own opinion becuz at the end of the day that's all it is. And He was the biggest thing in 1990 next to MC Hammer. As for Wiz Khalifa, he's meh, he's not even the best rapper coming outta Pittsburgh, that's Mack Miller. Juicy J couldn't give a fuck less, since he won that Oscar he can do whatever he wants becuz he still has die-hard Three-Six-Mafia fans, and Ty Dolla $ign is typical industry trash who sounds just like everybody else so fuck him.

  • Sam Snead

Ninja rap is awful but it was a more innocent time for mainstream hip hop, it's a goofy, corny, train wreck. The new turtles song sucks as well and these stupid hooks with these singers on them was never good but is getting really old. Why not a doubler hook w/ a rapper on it or a DJ cut on there?

  • T

But Ice was actually right, no homo.

that whole movie is trash. fuck michael bay for ruining everything sacred from my child hood. go ninja, go ninja go!

"With respect to all of the artists, the song doesn't really do it for me," HOW THE FUCK IS HE DISSING THEM? LOL HHDX YOU ARE CLOWNS

  • Sensaye Sixkiller

Saying you don't like something is not 'dissing' it. Sayin' "Yo, that shit is wack as fuck", is dissing it. He didn't say that. This new era and culture of stirring up beef and being so thirsty for drama that you exaggerate and fabricate is some bitch made shit. With that said "Go Ninja, Go Ninja, Go!!"....Vanilla Ice had way more talent than these mothafuckas nowadays that look at him like a joke. He would put on an actual show. Dancing, rapping, a DJ, a band, a fuckin' party. Rappers nowadays dont know nothin' bout that. They just walk around with 17 niggas on stage with 'em and the mic way too close to their mouth, basically lipsynching their own shit for 15 minutes then leave. So what he didn't write all his own shit, how is he any faker than the rappers now? I'd venture to say he's realer than half these clowns in the rap world now, and they wouldn't want it with my son Vanilla. lol. Straight up.

  • HHp

Wiz: " I like green, uhuh You know what I mean Uhm, rims and beams No tigers left That's right No Charlie Sheen Yeah Wiz got money And mony is green uhuh, yeah like a Turtle" Green weed Green money Green Turtles Yup, classic Wiz shit imagine Juicy Js hook going: "ey...ey..ey..ey..ey..ey..ey..ey" That would reeeally be something riiight? FOHWTBS

Yeah wiz is making a mess of his own career right now, of course he was gonna fuck up the TMNT song...this dude is really going downhill lol just checked out another song he released today and it was awful as expected SMFH somebody come save music....this is when I'm actually excited that Wayne is back on the grind I think we can expect some quality shit from him, drake, j cole, dizzy wright, Mgk, and hopefully Yelawolf this year....

  • StankFoot

He didn't diss them Fools. Also, NUMBER DON'T LIE........

  • dub

On the real, I decided to compare these songs objectively. And I actually agree with him. New song is bland as fuck, video is hype though. Ice takes an L on a lot of levels, but Ninja Rap > Shell Shocked. Not trolling.

  • HHp

Are Wiz and his laments responsible for TMNTs soundtrack? smmfh
