Inspectah Deck Does Not Support Drake's "Wu-Tang Forever"

Inspectah Deck says Drake's song "should not wear the title 'Wu-Tang Forever.'"

Today, Wu-Tang Clan's verified Twitter account endorsed Drake's "Wu-Tang Forever" song, a track off of Drake's upcoming album Nothing was the Same. Inspectah Deck also provided an endorsement of the song via Twitter. However, his opinion of the song has changed.

In an update on Twitter, Inspectah Deck said that he supported Drake's song prior to hearing it. Upon listening to the selection, however, Inspectah Deck said he agrees with fans who believe the song should not be titled after Wu-Tang Clan's second album, Wu-Tang Forever.

Deck's initial post about the song supported Drake.

Wu-Tang Clan has not changed their verified Twitter account. Through their account, Wu-Tang endorsed Drake's choice to use the group's second album title as the title of his song.

Drake's song, "Wu-Tang Forever," is slated to appear on the rapper's upcoming album Nothing was the Same

On "Wu-Tang Forever," Drake discusses his upbringing and his success.

"I just gave the city life," Drake says on the track. "It ain't about who did it first. It's about who did it right / Niggas lookin like 'Preach' / Open cases on me for a half a million each / I find peace knowing that it's harder in the streets / I know. Luckily, I didn't have to grow there / I would only go there / 'Cause there's niggas that I know there."

Nothing was the Same is slated to be released September 24.

Drake's "Wu-Tang Forever" can be streamed via HipHopDX

  • wutangisgay

Sure... after De La Soul dropped "Spirit of the Wu" in the summer, Drake steals the idea immediately after and does the same thing. And now Wu supports Drake? Oh well.. Im not surprised that Wu have all become a bunch of soft sell out faggots. They admitted from the start that they were all about "cream". They probably have milky sperm moustaches after that drake collab where he got to drain his little raisin nutsack on the faces of the wu tang clams.

These new rap clowns just give their song any title that might capture a new audience or generate contraversy so they can gain listens. A nigga would title a song "I Have A Green Cock" if he thought it might get people's attention. It's really desperate and pathetic how wack rap has gotten. I have NEVER been a Drake fan. I don't care how 'talented' he is, he's just a corny ass dude. Pee-Wee Harman was talented too, but grown men should not be watching Pee-Wee's Playhouse. Character and integrity has to count for SOMETHING.

  • Doubl Negative

If you're gonna homage these legendary Shoalin Island cats, you should do it in the "Spirit of Wu", witness De La's joint and Danny Brown's ODB. Middle-class people and whites have commandeerd all of our great musical artforms and artists, and it's a shame when you go to a Wu show and there's more brothers on stage than in the audience. Adding further to the De La and Brown records, a track named Wu-Tang Forever could only be done justice by some one who truly understands Wu and our culture, not an outsider. I nominate Bam Bam, Homeboy Sandman, John Robinson, eLZhi or Ill Bill to rectify this travesty Drake has set upon us. The latter two emcees would be perfect candidates as they've already paid tribute to two of hip-hop's greatest contributors; eL re-working Nas' Illmatic, and Bill's ulogy/homage to Guru/Preem on World Premier.

Drake is a moron for titling the song after the Wu and singing over a track crying over a bitch once again. It taints the legacy, fuck Drake and his uneducated fans. My opinions changed just like Deck's prior to and after hearing the gay ass song. The whole Wu should just bomb on him with diss tracks.

Though Wu first album is my favorite album of all time, I hate when these old rappers always got to voice an opinion about something. Just shut the f up and be glad these young boys are still talking about you. The 90 artists turn their back on the forefathers and now they want the new artists to kiss their behinds. Drake could have given that shine to another artist you ungrateful soul... The spoiled old heads are becoming annoying.

Before you Drake groupies get your tight jeans in a bunch, Deck never said the song was WACK... He just doesn't support the title to it. Quite frankly, it doesn't even make any sense. He's talking about a female on the track and he named the song "Wu-Tang Forever". That's just corny right there.

Look at you lames. Y'all niggas on your period or what? Drake did a song with the It's Yourz sample and he could have named it ANYTHING else but he decides to show respect by naming it Wu-Tang Forever. drake represents everything anti-wu-tang. he has a much credibility of repping wu-tang as miley cirus doing a patti labelle or aretha franklin tribute. completely different worlds. NOW, if drake actually captured the essence of hip hop and wu-tang and rapped, no one would have a problem with it. BUT, this guys makes yet another bullshit gimmicky watered down r&b track. off course, wu fans are not going to be happy.

99% of these kids that try to dis Wu have never even sniffed 36 Chambers, Liquid Swords, Only Built 4 Cuban Linx... or any other golden era release. They sh!t on what they never heard and could never understand even though their hero Drake is basically telling them to listen to what inspired him. To me, that is just pure unadulterated stupidity.

  • Suuuuuuuuuuuuu

Drake is a half baked Lil Wayne clone. His music is incredibly repetitive so the newest generation of "hip hop" fans whose IQ's barely break 70, can understand his message. Which is about nothing relevant. You want to call Wu-Tang irrelevant because they're old? Let's see if drake has over 50 albums by the time he hits 40. Wu-tang were commercial for about a period of 4 months in 1997. Then, realizing how stupid mainstream hip hop fans are, and the fact that they were being used, they intentionally went back underground where they belong. These kids will never begin to understand the complexity of the Wu's lyrics because doing so would require critical thinking, and I'm sorry, but that's simply not in today's hip hop or the corresponding generation at all. There is no substance.

    • Anony Moose

^he said commercial, not mainstream. everyone knows who the fuck wu tang is, but that doesn't mean they release shit on major labels

wu-tang is meanstream dumbass! They sold: - clothing - beer - skate boards and other shit. - did songs with rnb artitst - played in movies. I will not consider them super meanstream but they are meanstream to a certain level.

  • Anonymous

You can think the song's garbage, that's your prerogative. But to suggest that the title of the song is somehow disrespectful, a misappropriation, or a form of subterfuge is ... well ... crazy. Why's it called "Wu-Tang Forever?" Well, because it samples "It's Yourz" off of the album, "Wu-Tang Forever." For those who've heard the song, Rae kicks off his verse with "... machine gun rap(s), for all my niggas in the back, stadium packed ...;" Drake uses the same words -- verbatim -- to start his second verse on "Wu-Tang Forever." You could certainly argue that this is paying homage to a Wu-Tang member, but I digress. Anyway, as many have intimated, the girl Drake's referring to (in Wu-Tang Forever) could be hip-hop (a la Common's "I Used to Love H.E.R"), which, thematically, would mesh with him mentioning the Wu as he rapped about his upbringing and love interest. The song isn't Drake's best work, but if it's ruffling the feathers of myopic "real hip-hop" fans, then hell, I'm all for it.

    • ^

      Nope. You're wrong about everything.

    • Anonymous

LOL, balaramesh coming through with some first-class stupidity. You're mad because the fucking title of the song didn't capture the essence of the Wu-Tang? Shit, using your logic, you should have HATED "Otis." Man, if we start using incongruities with the "essence"/connotations of a song title & the song's subject matter as a tell-tale sign of "disrespect," a myriad of hip-hop songs become problematic. Also, you can't bring yourself to compare two songs that share a common theme? So what if one CLEARLY sucks juxtaposed to the other one? You're just going to ignore any potential commonalities (in this case, using a female to express love for a genre of music)? The fuck is wrong with you? "Real hip-hop" is one of the dumbest phrases suburban white folks ever created; there's more than one acceptable strand of a genre that lends itself to diversity. Musical absolutism is going to kill hip-hop; that, and people like the first commenter, whose sense of hegemonic masculinity can't let him process a phrase as common as "ruffling feathers." Relax with the confirmation biases. You can think this song sucks and then go vibe to Atmosphere -- that's on you.

    • balaramesh

this song IS disrespectful, because it DOES not by ANY means represent what wu-tang is all about. just another cheesy watered down r&b track by drake. IF he wants to just sample the song, then it is fine. BUT to make a crappy radio song and call it wu-tang is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. furthermore, you comparing this song to "I Used to love her," shows that you SHOULD NEVER comment on real hip hop songs. go somewhere and listen to rich homie quan.

It's 2013, fashion is just as much hip-hop as lyrics, if not more. The boom-bap wu-tang golden age era is dead. You can be super duper lyrical like slaughter's house but if you don't own at least one piece of Tuscan Leather then you're probably broke. If you're a rapper then you need to be good looking and have designer clothes on. Nobody wants to hang a Brother Ali poster on their wall.
