J. Cole came back with both fists swinging this week after a brief hiatus from putting out new music. The Roc Nation rapper dropped off his free EP Truly Yours one day prior to Valentine’s Day, following with his official new single “Power Trip” featuring Miguel from his upcoming sophomore album Born Sinner. Justin Timberlake lodged a top-played single with “Mirrors,” a Timbaland-produced cut off his comeback album The 20/20 Experience, while French Montana made a dent with Nicki Minaj on his new joint “Freaks.” Drake maintained a spot on the top 10 with “Started From the Bottom,” while Meek Mill’s freestyle over the beat secured him a placement as well. And the unexpected collaboration between Mac Miller and Prodigy, “Confessions of a Cash Register,” got some burn as well.
J. Cole Goes On A “Power Trip” With Miguel
After maintaining mostly musical silence since the release of his debut album Cole World: The Sideline Story, J. Cole came out of nowhere this week with his Truly Yours EP, given as a gift to fans. The following day, the Roc Nation rapper dropped off his latest Born Sinner single “Power Trip” featuring Miguel, which sees him reflecting on the one that got away. The track lodges at No. 1 on HipHopDX’s most popular songs this week, followed by a pair of cuts from his Truly Yours EP: “Can I Holla At Ya” and “Tears For ODB,” which rank at No. 2 and 6, respectively. Cole is prepping the release of his upcoming album Born Sinner, which will be released later this year.
Drake Starts From The Bottom, Inspires Remixes
Drake topped last week‘s Top 10 Most Popular Singles list with his new track “Started From The Bottom,” which serves as the lead single off his upcoming third album Nothing Was The Same. This week, the song lodges at No. 4, still going strong following the release of the music video. After Wiz Khalifa hopped on the unofficial remix, Meek Mill gave it a spin this week by spitting bars that diss Cassidy, settling at No. 8 on the list. While unauthorized remixes are coming out of the woodwork, Drizzy hinted that an official remix is in the works and will be released soon.
