For the second consecutive week, a fully-produced album by El-P debuted on the Top 200. Following El's musical half of R.A.P. Music by Killer Mike the previous week, the Brooklyn, New York native's third vocal album, Cancer 4 Cure as a soloist nearly scored a Top 50. Also this week, as Strange Music's Krizz Kaliko is the most recent label project, Kickin' & Screamin', to appear on the charts, last month's Paranormal effort from Michigan emcee Prozak made an encore with a strong sales boost.
El-P Diagnoses Fans With His Cancer 4 Cure
In a career that spans nearly 20 years, producer/emcee El-P garnered his highest charting position to date with Cancer 4 Cure. The Company Flow co-founder has also produced full albums for Cannibal Ox and earlier this month, Killer Mike, but the #61 position for his Fat Possum Records release is a benchmark, topping I'll Sleep When You're Dead's #78 spot from 2007. C4C, a self-produced LP, features Danny Brown, Mr. Muthafuckin' eXquire and Mike, among others. The independent solo effort, and El's first since his Def Jux label went on hiatus, was backed by the single "The Full Retard."
Killer Mike's Brand Of R.A.P. Music Matters
In its second week in stores R.A.P. Music fell 59 spots to #136. R.A.P. Music is already one of the releases getting "album of the year" talk from fans, as 2012 approaches its midpoint. The Williams Street release, an Adult Swim subsidiary, dropped Mike's sixth album. Fellow Southern Rap veterans T.I. and Bun B appear on the album, along with scratching from longtime Eyedea musical partner, DJ Abilities. Earlier this month, Mike spoke in-depth with HipHopDX about the chemistry he's found with El.
