West Coast Hip Hop Pioneers Rodney O & Joe Cooley Reunite, Plan Album

Exclusive: The outspoken duo behind early '90s hit "U Don't Hear Me Tho" is back making music for the first time in 12 years.

For the first time since the late 1990s, iconic Compton, California duo Rodney O & Joe Cooley are planning to release an album. Reunited since late last year, the pair is preparing to release Joe & Me soon, backed by the single "That Supa Radio."

The pair is known for their early '90s radio-diatribe hit "U Don't Hear Me Though," with roots dating back to the early 1980s Electro scene in Los Angeles. The group had several Billboard charting singles between 1989 and 1994 and would go on to tour with acts such as MC Lyte, N.W.A., Kool Moe Dee and Grandmaster Flash.

Joe Cooley, a pioneer L.A. deejay, reflected, "Turntablism and marketing is real big now. Nowadays everyone’s a deejay. Back when I started out, you could count all the west coast deejays on one hand. But it’s cool. I like the fact that turntables got this far. Now looking at where it’s at, from where it came from, I never thought turntables would be this large right now. Everyone is spinning and cutting right now. There’s a million deejays.”

The group would go on to influence the sound of acts like Black Eyed Peas, DJ Quik and Tha Dogg Pound.

The group's new single, "That Supa Radio" is posted below. HipHopDX will keep you updated.

i'm surprised no one said anything about what was said @ 1:22 ("hip hop ain't dead/they want pop instead"). anyway, i'm glad to hear they're still active. their catalog is the business. for those of you who don't know who they are, lil wayne rapped over their "everlasting bass" beat for "can't feel my face"

How old do you think Dr. Dre is?! Age has nothing to do with it. Rodney O and Joe Cooley are classic hiphop artists, and DJ Joe Cooley is a master turntablist.

I'm glad they are coming back. They made a lot of innocent party classics that people of all walks of life could enjoy. The problem with the youngsters’ today is that they think older artist have nothing to contribute to the art. You're the reason black culture is so disposable! You don't see the rock community dismissing the Rolling Stones just because they are older!

Joe Cooley is one of the best DJ's in hip hop. I am sure they can still rock a party with their catalog alone.
