Prodigy Talks Lil Wayne And T.I.'s Sentencing Time, Hip Hop Task Force

Mobb Deep's Prodigy explains why he got more time than Lil Wayne and T.I. and how police allegedly tried to get him to plant evidence in 50 Cent's car.

Mobb Deep’s Prodigy has been on an epic press junket since finishing up his three-and-a-half-year prison sentence. In addition to returnng to the studio with Nas, Alchemist, Curren$y and others, P has been promoting his book, My Infamous Life: The Autobiography of Mobb Deep’s Prodigy. While discussing his bio with Maya The B of ThisIs50 Radio, P explained why he essentially served three times as much time behind bars as T.I. and Lil Wayne did for similar weapon possession charges.

“The way I see it, those dudes criminal history is way different than mine,” Prodigy explained. “As far as T.I.’s case is concerned, everybody looked at that kind of crazy—like what’s going on over there? Everybody’s criminal history is different. If you look at my rap sheet, it’s very long. I’ve got a lot of crazy stuff on there from when I was young; assault charges, gun charges, robbery, attempted robbery…a lot of stuff.”

P added that while some prosecutors are not allowed to sway juries by disclosing a defendant’s youthful offenses, the residing judge still has access to the files of previous offenses which factor into his ruling. Always leery of the judicial system, Prodigy retold his account of ATF and Hip Hop Task Force members allegedly asking him to plant evidence against his onetime boss, 50 Cent.

Mobb Deep signed to 50’s G-Unit imprint in 2006, and when Prodigy was arrested on weapon charges in 2007, he says authorities asked him to set up 50 Cent on multiple occasions.

“The A.T.F. and the Hip Hop Task Force were all interrogating me to plant evidence in 50 [Cent’s] car,” Prodigy added. “After that I went and told 50 to be careful who he let in his car. I told him, ‘They hate you. They’re really trying to set you up.’”

Love my boy PRODIGY, the EP is FIRE. keep doing what you doing homie.

  • Powerphi

I just ran his name through two criminal law databases, and the only thing listed in his history, is the recent gun charge. I'll assume - if he's telling the truth - that he's referring to a juvenile rap sheet. If he is fabricating, I agree with Big Dan below - P's fanbase isn't really impressed with all of that inmate nonsense. By the way, is it me, or does dude have a "prison gut?"

"If you look at my rap sheet, itâ€(TM)s very long. Iâ€(TM)ve got a lot of crazy stuff on there from when I was young; assault charges, gun charges, robbery, attempted robbery…a lot of stuff.” Prodigy are you drunk or something? You never did this shit? You phony. Let me take it further...No, you just had a crappy lawyer. You're no longer an 18 year old misguided kid. Stop thinking this fake ass gangsta crap works. You already threw away three years of your life. Your core fans like you, are in their thirties, they're hopeful, not checking for that nonsense. They have families to feed and those that are still buying your ghetto crap at this age, obviously have some serious issues and won't be buying your records. Stop that nonsense and start being a grown up. Instead of focusing on the nonsense, how about a Mobb Deep/Nas album, plus a MB album, all in the next 8-10 months. Again, you're a thirty something rapper and your earning power is dwindling. Think about your future, as in your 50s, 60s etc. Think about your kids going to college. Think about making and saving money for the next generation. You go in again, you'll be 40 or more when you get out. Your rapping days will be behind you. Don't screw up. NY can have all the hip hop police it wants, if you give 'em nothing to go on, you'll just have a bunch of idle police.

    • gangsta

Big dan u dumbass nigga , u wrote a fuckin essay on the dumbest shit ever

    • EddieMurrrphy

idle police are the most dangerous kind, because they are restless and very aggressive, they tend to lash out even at fellow caucasians! they are as hostile as a pack of niggers-mel gibson > charlie sheen

I guess it was real hard and ghetto on the art school where he met Havoc.

  • son of a sax

The thing I find funny is that hes going out of his way to let the world know and basically is saying that his dirt is monsterous. Whereas and compared to Wayne and T.I is minimal. Why you throwing it up?!? The truth will rise to the top. Remember what Krs said Prodigy..."real bad boys move in silence"

  • RichFromNY

Stop with that Hip Hop task force sh*t already...rappers aren't that important to establish and pay an entire group of cops to watch them..if it seems like they're always getting arrested for something its because they're easy targets, you can't go rapping about guns and drugs...then in interviews talk= about how real all of that is and not expect to get fu*ked with...it always kills me how four dudes can walk down the block and randomly beat the sh*t out of someone and no one does sh*t but let a cop stop someone and the whole neighborhood comes running to the rescue...

    • CandyKane

RichfromNY... do you live in NYC?? The NYPD have tons of "task force" units that specifically target certain groups of people, and hip hop artists are definitely one. You need to get a better understanding of how the NYPD really works. A couple of years ago, an NYPD contingency (Commish Ray Kelly included) went to Israel to learn the tactics of the Israeli police, and they've used many of those tactics (including the use of "task forces" and maintaining databases of information on individuals). You have to also understand that there are forces in NYC that have been trying to reduce the black citizenry of the city. What do you think gentrification is? Why do you think there's been a push to get white people to move back to the city? Why do you think that black men continue to be stop-and-frisked at ever increasing levels? There has been a strategic undercurrent of political and social tactics that have made it increasingly difficult for a successful black community to be sustained in NYC.

    • Eazy83

I know what your sayin about talkin shit in interviews. The reality is, there are takss forces out there. like they have graffiti task force. For cops rappers are easy money. Because they are a rapper with explicit content its easy for them to make something up, and since they know they have money on them, its the perfect target. Why would a cop stop someone kids fighting, they are probably fighting because they are mad they have no money. its all about the money son. remember cash rules everything around me

    • Slim R

Check out: "Black and blue, legands of the hip hop cop" It's a documentary about how the NYPD purposely followed cats around violated their rights. As for the black community trust, or lack of trust, of police, if you don't understand the twisted relationship then you don't know the pain of hip hop.

  • tru Life

You were never gangsta Prodigy. You assaulted nobody because you were always beating up by: 2pac, tru life saigon keith murray Who did you beat up Prodigy? Even Justin Bieber will beat your ass up.

    • ultrakid

prodigy is such a studio gangsta...what he needs to do is focus on his music and try to drop some hits, instead of talking shit about jayz, and how other rappers rap-sheets aint long as his (YAWN)...

    • sincerejk

are u serious marcus? pac and his boys tried to rush him in atlanta back in 95 or 96 so he locked himself in a van and they started shakin the van, taunting him and all that. that one's not all that well known but the tru life incident was the best story on the first "BEEF" cd. tru life and a buncha wild ricans ran up in the studio with shotguns, made prodigy strip, handcuffed him to a chair and pistol whipped him. dj muggz and gza happened to be in the studio at the time & they weren't touched out of respect for who they are

    • Marcus Dislikesmartdumbpeople Eason
