Emcee, singer and producer Wyclef Jean has been named a fellow to the Ivy League's Brown University today. The prestigious Rhode Island university appointed the former front-man for The Fugees to their Department of Africana studies.
Jean has said that he hopes to devote the department's attention to Haiti, and contribute to other areas of study. Previously, Wyclef received an honorary doctorate from Western Connecticut State University, as well as honors from another Ivy League school, Boston's Harvard, University.
The appointment comes in a year where Wyclef Jean attempted to run as President of Haiti, before election officials deemed him ineligible based on his residence in the United States. Last week, the artist was hospitalized for stress and exhaustion. Last year, Wyclef Jean and DJ Drama released Toussaint St. Jean: From The Hut, To The Projects, To The Mansion.
