Social media demolished Troy Ave this week. But is it all much ado about nothing? DX dissects it all in this week’s DX Daily Breakdown.

    1. Damn the sites only care about the sales. They say flop so you can listen to they bullshit instead of the music. Nobody cares about record sales. I am t getting the money. Why should I care?!!!!

    2. I’m not sure if it was a flop but it wasn’t great for my taste. It may have been just what the masses want though. To each his or her own

    3. Troy ave album is a great buy and a great listen, in today’s era of music half of u niggas don’t know what the fuck dope is let alone the fuckers that run this website

      1. You just all the credibility by saying it’s a dope album – it isn’t. And yes, I did listen to it but I would never buy this bad album.

    4. This article is dumb. This the first site I’ve been to saying the album isn’t good. Smh it’s not great but it’s better than 80 percent of what’s out there right now. HiphopDx takes a L for this one.

    5. That guy in the video knows nothing about music. Probably wasn’t born in the inner city to even understand what a real hip hop rap album sounds like.

      1. Ion know man…hhdx actually gave New York the album a good look and push back in late ’13, I know because that is where I first hears if troy ave. I think the videos are actually pretty good and the questions he asked were pretty good about artists place today. I don’t know where he’s from but I would guess he has a solid understand of hip hop. I’m not a huge troy ave fan but I like some shit and I have never really looked into him to deep

    6. Album sales are no longer a viable indicator of an albums success. For example, I listened to Major Without A Deal the day it came out but never purchased it. My roommate and his girlfriend did the same. My older brother and a few of my homies also did the same. How did we all (legally) listen to this album without purchasing it? Streaming services (Rdio is my preference).

Physical sales have thoroughly lost their value and digital sales are going the same way. Instead of reporting how many sales it got, talk about how many streams it got, then we can find out if this album truly “flopped”.

      1. They do count streaming with the records sales now u need like 500 streams ( not sure) for one album sale

    7. An artist sells 5,000 albums BY HIMSELF and it’s a flop??? 99% of the folks making fun of him couldn’t sell ice-cream to a 5 year old and they wanna make fun of him?

      Bunch of losers!

    8. How is he a flop selling the album independently and selling singles without a major nick picking at your profits. I’m sure he’s doing shows getting paid.

    9. 4,500 isnt a flop indie, but imo when you have a star studded list of features like Troy had, it is kinda a flop. You got alot of poppin cats on there and can only do 4,500. Thats kinda bad.
