It’s all entertainment. There was a skit on the Show soundtrack. It’s all entertainment. The exceptions are there but they minor. Enjoy the music you like.
We compare present day rap to golden era rap. GOlden era meaning 88 -98. Schooly D and Busy B are legends but even if you compare them to golden era golden era is def better than pre 88 hip hop. Who reminices about Schooly D and Busy B today , very few.
Bottom line ? Murs misses the point. We are comparing this era to the peak of hip hop. We went from pre 88 rap to golden era and back down again. Of course we are going to compare them to golden era because golden era came immediately before and it was the best moment in hip hop. finally most people actually do not mind Future and Migos are definitely getting better. Its people like Lil Uzi vert, Lil Yachty etc just don’t move the massess like future and Migos
real or fake we can all agree todays MAINSTREAM hip hop is trash. Bunch of mumbling, auto tune, guns, drugs, and bitches while looking gay with their choice of clothing. I sure dont like what hip hop may sound 10 years later. If you dont like todays music and dont want the children be influenced , do what I do, tell the children that these rappers are not the people you want to look up to because their mission is to make people of color look weak and stupid so that evil white men can finally be the superior ones.
lol the kids are dying from drugs like xanax approved by the government.
Faces look like coloring books then everybody got a shooter nowadays even kids from
the suburbs. glorifying violence and fake shit
Compare lil uzi very, lil yachty and migos to Conway the machine, Benny and Freddie Gibbs and tell me who’s real and who’s fake. Who’s got flow and bars and who can make real hip hop. Answers in the comment section if hhdx don’t delete this comment.
You explained everything in carnal (flesh based terminology) when the Spirit is where the separation lies my friend! Hip Hop was meant to move the culture (us) forward as a collective not as individuals. P.S you should be ashamed of even trying to compare the two. But hey, if you knew better you would do better. Right!
I disagree with Murs since it is hip hop and then there is rap music. Hip hop is for a culture that is unique to the 80s through mid 90s. Rap music is for a culture that is unique from 2000 through present time. The late 90s (1996-1997) was the transition period from hip hop to rap music (B.I.G. and Pac died during that time flipping hip hop on its head paving the way for Puffy, Master P, Hot Boys, Pastor Troy, Trick Daddy, etc to become successful rappers). Hip hop focused more on creativity, lyricism, positivity, consciousness, and was definitely an art. Rap music is driven by song hooks with WAY less emphasis on lyrical prowess, little positivity, and minimum creativity. People who grew up on hip hop mostly relate to the hip hop culture because that stuff was…well relatable to everyday life. People who grew up in the rap era love the hooks and these silly rap dances because that is all they can mostly decipher from the song. Not much in today’s rap music is positive (extreme violence, excessive sex, drugs, flaunting money, designer clothing, exotic cars) because it is portraying an image that young folks need to turn to a life of crime in order to obtain those things. On a separate note…Das EFX was probably one of the dopest and most original groups to ever enter hip hop. They made two crucial mistakes that ended up costing them from being one of the best hip hop groups ever…mistake #1…they should have stuck with Erick Sermon and be on Def Jam instead of going with Parrish Smith. Mistake #2…they changed their rap style to sound like everybody else instead of continuing to be unique.
Number one Das efx hip-hop beat was produced by DJ premier it does not get more hip-hop then that … number two yes Migos can rap their ass off all three of them little known fact but das efx has better as per flow and actual lyrical content you are reaching by comparing these two songs.. but not these two groups.. lastly.. that song hip-hop was on the album hold it down a classic hip-hop album that had beats by not only DJ Premier but also Pete rock I can repeat it does not get more hip-hop than that
The audience changed. Hip hop now is mostly made up of kids who grew up in the rich suburbs and go to high class schools during their teen years. Obviously they’re not gonna relate to music that artistically captures the life of inner city everyday people. They’re not even gonna relate to any type of everyday struggle that regular people go through, like working a 9-5 for a boss they hate, being behind on a bill, paying off student loans, etc. Todays rap is all about partying, selling drugs, and fantasizing about a celebrity life that your never gonna have. If you listen to the lyrics of today’s rappers, not only do they talk about the same things, but they sound so alike it’s hard to tell them apart. But because they speak a language these kids relate to, it connects whereas with older heads, there is a major disconnect. As ignorant as today’s music is, all it is doing is reflecting today’s youth. These young rappers even look and dress like they’re in high school. Talent and skills don’t even matter. It’s all about that emotional connection that they se
to have with these ignorant young kids.
What up doe’!

Murs I think you missed a major point, what actually sounds good the new stuff is mostly unlistenable and corny as hell
