I have to agree! Reggie is should be mentioned in GOAT conversations . He faces many similar obstacles that Ludacris faces. Both have been challenged because of their comical and sometimes “cartoonish” approach to rap. But lyrically, really listen to their wordplay and add their success, longevity and ability. You will find both should be in the GOAT conversation!
Never really thought about him being the greatest, he’s always just kinda been there. I saw him and Meth back in the late 90’s and they tore it up! Their stage show was unbelievable compared to other rap shows, definitely entertaining! I have all his albums, they are packed with punchlines with subject matter of serious and comedic. He is like a character as Justin mention. Movies, shows and music with production and one of the few with hardcore work ethic and a LIVE ass live show!! He Maybe the GOAT! I just never really thought about it…..my bad Reggie!
So can we say one of the greatest mc’s of all time…. We all now rappers are generally be dimensional. MC’s do it n the studio, in the cypher, and on stage. I’ve seen Redman conquer all of these dimensions. Not even Jay-Z can say that. Nas has been regularly criticized for his presence on stage, and Pac was a gifted lyricist but lacked in freestyling abilities. DC may have something going here. Even tho I don’t believe that there’s ever a such thing as greatest of all-time no matter if you’re talking about music or sports!
Lol sry I’m committing/talking to myself…I saw red and meth in Memphis and my homie got so buck(Crunk for you youngsters) that he fkd up his ankle and red and meth grabbed him and took care of him…down to earth dudes
Payday Monsanto is the greatest rapper of all time but he has been blackballed by the industry because he is also the most controversial rapper of all time so unfortunately not many are aware of his musical masterpieces. im a Redman fan but even with more well-known rappers, i dont think he can touch the skills/lyricism of Locksmith or R.A. the Rugged Man
I love Redman. And Justin makes a compelling case. But no. Far too limited subject matter, and stylistically he became a bit of a one trick pony after “Muddy Waters”. He was TERRIFIC at his one trick, but still. Just one trick. I can’t take him any higher than maybe 7th overall. Maybe. That said… “Dare Iz a Darkside” is one of my 5 favorite rap albums of all time.
And thus, you guys steal My heart, completely agree he(redman) sustained a light heartedness patented by true school pioneers (biz markie, once upon a time in the projects, etc) yet had this edge that made him a staple among the more rugged sound that prevailed during the 90’s he is considered by many to have kept Def Jam afloat when the west was at its most dominant streak as far as sales and the mainstream
Redman the GOAT? Bold statement. I guess a case could be made for top 20. Imo there is just not enough material out there to even be in the discussion. If I’m thinking of the most lyrically talented MC’s B.I.G, Jay Z, Rakim, KRS One, Nas and a few others come to mind. Currently CyHi da Prynce and Black Thought are incredibly talented. It’s a shame they don’t get the recognition they deserve because the state of hip hop is so fucked up. Redman is at least a real MC that was relevant during the golden era of hip hop.
You probably don’t know this, but Jay-Z has more ghostwriters than anybody in the business except for Drake & Kanye. At least Redman writes all his own lyrics! Redman can’t afford ghostwriters! Sean Price is the greatest rapper! Not saying the most sold, favorite battle rapper, or the most commercial success. I’m saying the best to rap!
You HAVE to do one on Snoop I feel like he has recognition as a OG and hes popular but he’s NEVER brought up in Goat discussions and he checks every box and AZ is also interesting one because I think he’s widely regarded as the most underrated of all time
Snoops lyrics since after Doggystyle have been sub par, and I like Snoop, he makes great features on other artists songs, he makes an enjoyable pop song every so often, he seems to be like able good dude, but let’s not fk around – GOAT he ain’t.
I will have to go with Chuck D as the most underrated but the best is hard cause there are many that can go in there like blackthought , pharoahe monch, buckshot, gza, ghostface, planet Asia and one of my favorite j live all of which still drop albums. Still it’shard to do so will just a big shout to KRS one , canibus(probablythe greatest lyricist) and Erick sermon plus my dude Kurupt held it down as my number one for some might say three of the important years in hip hop between 94 to 96 . shout out to real hip hop and the golden years
Refreshing to see real hiphop heads commenting thus far, shout to all yall, tht beong said Redman is real, dude held me down for the longest time but i feel not enough material out there for him to be the GOAT,but can be mentioned wit Rakim,Cannibus,my dude Kurrupt,Krs,Jigga and Snoop.
There is no such thing as the goat in rap or basketball. Their are greats and Red is def one of the greats thats a fact. Red being the goat is more of a opinion, a opinion I respect but the goat term is overblown. Anybody that doesnt believe Red is the goat can
easily argue that he doesn’t have classic singles like tupac california love, dear mama, how do you want it, Brenda. Jay Z hard knock life, H to the, big pimpin. Bone thugs, crossroads, first of the month, days of our livez, thuggush ruggush. But all in all Red is one of the dopest mc’s ever.
J, bone, and pac were kinda of a rare breed they were extremely dope rappers that broke thru and had huge commercial success, Redman never achieved the type of success those cats did.
Redman had a lead role in a classic movie, starred in a sitcom, and has 4 of the greatest albums to his name (Whut, Darkside, Muddy Waters, and Blackout). Plus, almost everyone that I know is aware of Redman. How is that not commercial success?
Compared to the commercial success that those others had musically as far as hit singles and album sales Redman is just not there, as far as how high being a classic that’s your opinion I thought it was ok not a classic tho, Friday, In too deep, menance to society, Poetic justice, Life, bad boys, state property, paid in full I consider those classics. You’re right he has had great albums but great albums don’t always transition to commercial success, Redmans albums were never sold a lot.
Hey, can you guys do a scout and survey on the rapper named Canibus, I considered the best fit my ears and the best lyrically and the greatest of all times. I haven’t seen or heard of him gotten any notice at all rare you find people that knews about him and I wonder why, be cuz he concentrate on revolutionary music like knowledgeable and scentific and spiritual.
I’ll battle you on the net,
I’ll battle you in the flesh,
I’ll battle you over the phone, you can call me collect,
I’ll battle you for the respect,
I’ll battle you over a blank check,
I’ll battle you with a gun to my neck….
Canibus!
Moat will only know him for the disaster battle with dizzaster, but this was Canibus past his battle prime. Or the fact that Marshall never wanted to engage with him over wax. They had lil jabs, but nothing more. He’s not the best, but one of. He needs to be in a conversation with best battle rappers on wax ( not the battle league ” write my freestyle ” cats of today ).
Instead, he’s in a league with Chino xl, King Crooked ( Or Crooked I as most of us remember ). Cats with the gift of being a wordsmith, and the battle cat prowess that you don’t want to play with.
This site will never give any shine to Mc’s like that. They are more interested in being the TMZ of hip hop.
Guru was boring and corny af. I dont know why dudes swear by that dry ass ngga. Primo made him. Yalll heard what his sht sounded like after he left Gang starr. Black though too cold tho
Red should be in the conversation more, his delivery and stage performance are top notch and he has at least 2 classics. I think his overall output focused too much on just one type of sound and style. In terms of career, your influence and impact on culture count too. For most of his career he was the funny weed guy and that’s all. Busta Rhymes and Luda deserve more respect too, they all suffer from that same perception…
Well, we all know that didn’t happen. I guess you moms is going to make sure apologize tomorrow on Hot 97 for lying and bringing a mother and child into a mans battle. What manly MC goes after a baby momma and child… HOV!!!
Big Pun was incredible and definitely could have been one of the greats if he lived on. I think he was better than jay-z when they were both in the game.
Black thought is dope but hes not versatile in terms of sound/delivery.
Redman has almost never been outshone on a track.maybe the exception was “beasts from the east” when Canibus was vicious
If you think Black thought aint versatile in terms of sound/delivery you aint heard enough Black thought and if you think anybody on BFTE was better than Bis you cant be took seriously.
I hink the host is right Redman never gets too serious with his music so it’s hard to take im serious. But still one of the dopest ever. Docs da name turn me on to him had to go back and fuck with his shit prior. Always had dope shit.
5 good albums? LOL, I’ll give you Muddy Waters and, maybe, Whut? Thee Album, but that’s it. All of HOV’s albums are masterpieces. Red was only hot in the 90s and fell off right after. King HOV has stayed hot for over 20 years. Who else can do that?
Damn Daniel! H to the Izzo V to the Izza has got the super dope mad lyrics. HOV is so good he even in 2016 he asks you to google his name. That’s how he stays hot!
As if “Dare is a darkside” isn’t dope.U saying “maybe whut?Thee album” shows u must of been high AF.muddy waters and the two mentioned albums are straight up classics.NO QUESTION!!
Redman did have a Platinum album….” Doc’s Da Name ” went Platinum!! His 1st 3 albums went Gold….I think Red Gone Wild went Gold also or close to it and after dat de industry and record sales began to decline etc……
THIS IS A PERFECT EXAMPLE OF WHY EVERYONE THINKS THIS SITE IS A COMPLETE JOKE. REDMAN THE GREATEST EVER? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH HEY HUNTE THANKS FOR THE LAUGH OUT LOUD LAUGHTER AND YOUR USUAL UTTER STUPIDITY BUT HE’S NOT EVEN BETTER THAN METHOD MAN LET ALONE ICONIC LEGENDS LIKE PAC, BIG, NAS, JAY, EM AND THE LIST GOES ON. HEY HUNTE WHAT’S NEXT DUDE? KRIS KROSS IS THE GREATEST GROUP OF ALL TIME? HUNTE STOP EMBARRASSING YOURSELF YOU SOUND LIKE A COMPLETE NONSENSICAL NEANDERTHAL SMH
I don’t think Justin was saying it with a stamp on it, more so just to create a discussion. Gotta disagree with you this is prob the best hiphop site for real hiphop heads, worldstar is not for hiphop at all anymore and allhiphop is more so for mainstream. Justin has had like 3-4 great vids over the last couple of weekends, The one about the Bone thugs beef was really good, the one about Prince vs Mj was dope also.
Definitely don’t feel you here. This is an example of what should be done more often. Next time watch the video before you shade. You’ll sound smarter.
Been saying Red was underrated for years. Reggie absolutely belongs in the TOP 10 of all time.
Lyrically he’s held his own with just about any so-called lyrical heavyweight. And, and, he’s still dope today.
Reggie was really wack probablythe most disappointing album ever mudface was dope but he ain’t the goat … The way i find the goat is by listening to all of there material even there unreleased songs and when it comes down to it is Eminem … Even redman praises him
Eminem was pretty good in his early 2000´s but i don’t feel the same about him anymore when i listen to his recent stuff. He had his best moments. But Redman is still putting good music out i like a lot of music on the mud face album
in no special order 2pac, big, az, jay z, nas, kool g rap, masta ace , big pun, scarface, redman, em, stack bundles. cormega. rakim, big daddy kane. ice cube, big l, sean price, snoop, nature, black thought of the roots but to answer the question he is one of the goats
There’ll never be a GOAT that everyone decides on. Music is subjective and people relate more to some artists that rap about whatever they are going through.
MY top 5 list. Lupe, Nas, Jay, Big, Em, in no particular order.
Props to Red tho, been a proper rapper for time and hilarious too!
Red’s been consistent and has influenced a lot of MCs, namely Ludacris and Eminem but lets be honest here. He’s put out roughly the same album for 25 years now. Goofy lyrics about how he is gonna fuck you up and get high over Erick Sermon/Rockwilder beats. He’s a legend no doubt and in the Top 20 conversation. GOAT?? Sorry but no way.
Well Mr Reggie noble is one one my favorites, I grew up on him my favorite album is dares of a darkside, most of these dudes wasn’t even born yet so to understand is like me trying to understand disco, I can listen all I want but I’m not going to understand that moment in time of what was going on… but yes I agree he is nice fuck Wut anybody else says & yes he is nicer than a fucking than a Jay-z, in fact h wasn’t even out yet so please, & we are talking skill not billboards
& I’m so tired of people always naming the same top 5.. here is mines, redman, ghostface, busts, q-tip & kool g rap.. see was that so fucking hard?? Really Sean price should be in there but I was just proving a point.. people are sheep & say the same exact thing, all the fucking time oh fat Joe would be in there as well… in fact plenty of others I just wanted to prove a point cuz I can see 2pac maybe but biggie. The muthafucer don’t have enough material so let be real since niggas claim to be the realist all the fucking time..
I have to agree! Reggie is should be mentioned in GOAT conversations . He faces many similar obstacles that Ludacris faces. You are 100% correct! I’m sorry I slept on Reggie Noble! Shot out to Erick Sermon/EPMD ….#thefkwasithinking
Lol sry I’m committing/talking to myself…I saw red and meth in Memphis and my homie got so buck(Crunk for you youngsters) that he fkd up his ankle and red and meth grabbed him and took care of him…down to earth dudes
Arguably in the top 20..
Hey Piece of shit, pass me the scalpal!

Never fell off or took an L. The GOAT.
I love Redman. And Justin makes a compelling case. But no. Far too limited subject matter, and stylistically he became a bit of a one trick pony after “Muddy Waters”. Should do one for MF Doom. Personally I think he’s the greatest rapper of all time.
Facto
Redman the GOAT? Bold statement. I guess a case could be made for top 20. Imo there is just not enough material out there to even be in the discussion. when was nas’s lethargic period?
I Am, Nastradamus, Oochie Wally. He went on record about it. Said once biggie died he didn’t like the game of it anymore.
So, HOV’s entire career is Lethargic then? He’s gone on record saying he dumbs down his lyrics to sell albums.
His whole career! Hahahaha!
You probably don’t know this, but Jay-Z has more ghostwriters than anybody in the business except for Drake & Kanye. At least Redman writes all his own lyrics! Redman can’t afford ghostwriters! Oh yea I fucks with redman

You had me til you said bad boys and especially that garbage state property paid in full is great though and how high is a classic
Bone Thugs are trash.
Bone is top 3 rap groups of all time period, maybe even the best, you must be a migos fan
Good stuff again Justin. 3 weeks straight fire. I’m just going start saying ANOTHER ONE (Dj khaled voice)

Nas = G.O.A.T
Sure, GOAT in taking L’s.
G.O.A.T. is Nas
GOAT is HOV, he does look like one.
DX Community
Nas is the Greatest of all time. There is no rapper alive lyrically can out spit Nasir Jones!
Period… After 20 years later, Nas still beat against the best young and best old rapper.
Come on DX Community who other rapper can say that after 20 years. Only two I would say can, but they are dead…
Your mother was the greatest of all time last night. I left condoms in the baby seat.
Well, we all know that didn’t happen. I guess you moms is going to make sure apologize tomorrow on Hot 97 for lying and bringing a mother and child into a mans battle. What manly MC goes after a baby momma and child… HOV!!!
Is this a joke? Redman! Are you serious with us right now? Redman???? What a joke?
Redman maybe top 10 definitely top 15 of all time.
Two other rappers that’s should be in these convos are Raekwon and Treach.
No solo albums from Treach and Rae aint even the best one in his own group
Big Pun was incredible and definitely could have been one of the greats if he lived on. I think he was better than jay-z when they were both in the game.

Remand is dope. But Shady the G.O.A.T.
Imo I got Nas, Pac, and Bone thugs and Wu tang on the group side.
Nas and Pac are lame. FOH!
Lyrically, its French Montana or Action Bronson for G.O.A.T. Nobody ever even fucked with them on the mic.
Grow up
Do one on DMX ges way to slept on
I hink the host is right Redman never gets too serious with his music so it’s hard to take im serious. But still one of the dopest ever. Docs da name turn me on to him had to go back and fuck with his shit prior. Always had dope shit.
King HOV is the GOAT, and always will be. Redman doesn’t even have any albums that went platinum or #1.
Sales mean nothing as far as quality. Jay-Z has 3 good albums. Red has at least 5.

Pop music goes Platinum!
Redman did have a Platinum album….” Doc’s Da Name ” went Platinum!! His 1st 3 albums went Gold….I think Red Gone Wild went Gold also or close to it and after dat de industry and record sales began to decline etc……
