    1. I like the convo here Justin Hunte. I’m not sold on every Kanye album being a classic tho. His best album(s) to me are Late Registration and MBDTF. His other albums I rarely listen to and I won’t speak on 808’s or Yeezus. As far as underrated GOAT, it’s AZ in my opinion. Lupe isn’t underrated so much as under-appreciated I’d have to say. Roc definitely tends to make the same album over and over again, still dope tho. I’m a huge Styles P fan. I put him in the same company as Prodigy, another under-appreciated MC who has done nothing but lace beats over the course of his career. Would’ve loved to sit at that table with you cats and chop it up. Do me a favor tho, ask DX to stop with all the TMZ story lines. This site is turning into the Hip Hop Enquirer. Too many great things going on in Hip Hop than to constantly read about gossip. Peace.

      1. for real AZ is the most underrated….he really aint never got the mainstream love, but its all good, the real recognize real….Black Thought is another one too. They style and lyrics don’t fit this era but they hip-hop heavyweights!!!

      2. Pharoahe monch for sure, I feel similar. Styles P, AZ, Black Thought. I disagree w/ lupe. He has classics, and I think he gets the attention and respect due for his consistency. Blu on the other hand should be gettin that appreciation. Not as much as lupe, but more than he gets, especially given his style and those that came after.

    2. top 10 most underrated.

      1. AZ – 2. REDMAN – 3. MASTA ACE – 4. PHAROAHE MONCH – 5. BLACK THOUGHT – 6. JERU THE DAMAJA – 7. PRODIGY – 8. GURU – 9. TREACH – 10. TRAGEDY KHADAFI

    3. I agree with justin hunte lupe’s metaphors are from different dimensions b, Yea honestly lupe has surpassed Nas (who is considered as the greatest lyricist in hip hop) in every way possible, we r witnessing history repeating itself kinda like with nas & rakim. As for Monch he is hella underrated def in that category, as for roc and styles p honestly I don’t see em in that light I would’ve gone black thought, AZ, and Blu over them to be honest. Blu’s got the most colorful experimental catalog in the game period also his flow and wordplay are scary can rock on anything and make it his. Black thought, what more can I say dude is the most consistence and the epitome of what hip is about and true wordsmith.

      1. yeah lupe is dope, but I feel his metaphors are overrated. He’s gone farther in lyrical complication with them, but not necessarily with as much effect. I still feel Rakim on As the rhyme goes on is more effective with his quicksand metaphor than most of lupe’s. He mentions quicksand once, but if you listen, it applies to the whole song; its self reflective because the metaphor itself is a metaphor.

    4. Oh shit MF DOOM!! beside Lupe name any other rappers that are complex, abstract, thought provoking and layered as this dude..I’ll wait.. yep you cant find let alone utter one under the sun. If you get past his unique odd flow (his style) no one has put out a series of albums like this guy dude’s music is so unique the only way i can describe is like reading a series of comic books..Dude is the true definition of being an original, you can’t sense any influence in his music, DOOM is cut out from a different cloth! My top 5 GOAT alive would be 1. Lupe 2. Nas 3. Jay Z 4. Rakim 5. MF DOOM left out biggie and Pac cuz i feel like their deaths really contributed them to be regarded as the greatest even though some rappers have surpassed them in regards to more body of work and technique . Still you get very biased opinions when mentioning them, that’s why i left them out.

    5. Agree with all the thoughts. But what about Phonte from Little Brother? His catalogue is pretty impressive and is high quality. I think that he does not get the respect that he should as a lyricist.

    6. Black Thought, Az, Evidence, Phonte, Pharoahe Monch, Lupe Fiasco, Elzhi, Method Man, Redman, Blu, Murs, Talib Kweli, Cool G Rap, Andre3000, Big Boi, T.I., Scarface, Curren$y, Ice Cube, and too many I can’t name clean off the top. #1 tho…I’d go Black Thought.

    7. Kanye West’s new song, All Day from BRIT Awards. CDQ and Dirty, listen to it right now! DXPE!

    8. I’m glad Lupe gets the recognition he deserved really well articulated brother, def a Nas of this generation much love!

    9. @ triPAUD I disagree, Rakim was the king of metaphors until Lupe came on to the scene and upgraded. You mentioned how Rakim uses a metaphor in a metaphor to reflect the song kinda like extended metaphors, Lupe has catalogs of that alone. Peep GOTTA EAT, SUNSHINE, GO TO SLEEP, TWILIGHT ZONE, DAYDREAM, FAILURE, MEAN N VICIOUS, EMPEROR’S SOUNDTRACK, FORM FOLLOWS FUNCTION, THE INSTRUMENTAL, and his most recent ones like ADORATION OF THE MAJI and the super impressive display of metaphors of MURAL peep the breakdown of this song alone on youtube. His ideas and thoughts are expressed through here, just like an artist expresses through a canvas. All the describing must mean that he is trying to create a visual picture for you through his words (a mental canvas)! I rest my case no one touching Lupe let alone Tetsuo & Youth, only dude that is near this level is MF DOOM

    10. I feel like Kanye is extremely overrated. I didn’t think Yeezus was good much and to instantly jump onto the “classic” title when the 3 tracks released so far are good at best (with some solid production except the song about his daughter its a tad boring).

Let the work stand out before we start throwing off classics please. It’s tiresome. Kanye’s albums are all classic? That’s absurd even to the biggest Kanye fan. It has to be. If you say he makes consistently good albums then I’d say “I don’t agree, but I can see where you’re coming from”.

    11. Pharoahe Monch is definitely one Mc that should be considered for the Goat award. And thats because he stays in his lane, and and doesn’t to go to far astray. On other hand, I am displease with Lupe and Kanye because they have gotten weird and went to far left just to please the poprock crowd. It’s like they have forgotten their Hiphop roots. Other nominees I would add to lists as well are
      1.Az
      2.Redman & Method
      3.Black Thought
      4.Jeru the Damaga

Other than that, check out the new single from HISD(HUESTON INDPENDENT SPIT DISTRICT) featuring Lady Bug Mecca from digabble planets

      1. I can totally agree with the Kanye West comment. However, to say Lupe his lost his “hip-hop” roots is absurd. Have you heard his new album???? Songs like Mural, prisoner 1 & 2, body of work, adoration of the magi, all show how rooted in hip-hop he is. Not to mention I don;’t think i have ever heard a rapper rip anything as hard as lupe did on mural.

    12. LUPE FIASCO #TETSUO & YOUTH is AMAZING..in my TOP 5 for 2015 easily…highly underrated…JAY ROCK is my other one…and lastly SAIGON….

    13. One name that should be on that underrated GOAT list that people forgot about is Inspectah Deck from the Wu Tang Clan. Dude has spit some real ill stuff through the years. He ain’t doing much now on the music scene and his albums ain’t do much but that’s what makes him underrated. He still got some of the best lyrics ever spit

    14. Pharoahe is super ill live, all his work has substance and innovation. It’s unjust that he rarely gets props. Shout out Eminem, at least he knows who the GOAT is!
