This album I must admit puts Jay Z in Nas status now after this many years lyrically. He is definitely pushing our culture forward with this album and it is not Pop culture shit that he was making for the white masses to get a few more sales. I have always criticized Jay for that but this album has definitely put me back to him after the Black Album.
This album is a classic and a feel good album for our culture. Telling us about investments and the key to our success and to trickle down that success to our kids. Now that is some grown up shit! Thanks for coming back to us Jay!
And… stay away from guys like Kanye and DJ Khaled bullshit music. You and Nas do not need to do music with those clowns!!!! They want the number 1 song in the country that sound nothing like for our people and culture. They are clowns! Waiting on you Nas!!! The GOAT…
I cant get “Story of OJ” out my head. That beat is so haunting. Video is EXCELLENT! Jay sounding as casual and conversational as ever. Judging by how some of the rhymes aren’t as precise or sharp as he usually is, it seems like he might have freestyled this whole album. Which is impressive in that it still carries the effortless swag he’s known for.
Not his greatest album, but there are some bangers like “Story of OJ”, “Marcy Me” and “Family Feud” that will age well among the rest of his catalogue. Debate if you like, but he is def in the GAOT conversation.
This is the ONLY song that go hard on the album……..and oh yeah, I’m over 40
Caught their eyes and Marcy Me are hard too mate…and im 37
Smile (especially that 3rd verse) Family Feud and Kill Jay Z are timeless I’m 33
Fuck this Tidal exclusive bullshit.
