J-Dilla is the best sory Dre, Timbo, swiss
(Pimp put on wieght from fightin em off)
R.I.P
J Dilla was the greatest behind Dr. Dre. R.I.P. to one of the realest HIP HOP producers to do it.
Behind Dre lol? You kids today.
Even Dre knows hes not better than Dilla.
RIP James + Titus.
J Dilla R.I.P. God bless your soul! your music is timeless and will live on forever! In my eyes you are the best to ever do it…Dre doesn’t come close. Love & Respect!
The best and most influential to ever do it. There are not too many true original legends left in the game, so respect the Premo’s and Pete Rock’s while they are still alive to bless us. This is the best doc available on Dilla from the perspective of those who knew and worked with the man who redefined and mastered the art of Hip-Hop production,
ya know its almost hard to imagine that given all that came before in hip-hop, and all that will come after, this guy IS the best to do it!
while other producers “caught the wave” surfed a lil bit, Dilla became the ocean…. like that constant force….. sonic inevitability…… and maybe that’s one great way to describe him, SONIC INEVITABILITY………because there isn’t a producer that I have heard that I can play a track for days on end and never get tired of it…….Dilla did that for me…. and I take that personally…..having never met him, I still feel a personal connection
I’m actually doing a disservice by trying to explain it, because it cannot be explained – personal things are best that way – personal – Dilla affected me, an I owe him gratitude
Dilla may have been the best SAMPLE-based producer, but IMO Dre is still the best. Now all you underground hip hop nerds can come attack me now, even though you skipped over where I said “imo”.
what george clinton & p-funk samples don’t count as “sample-based” music? fuck outta here
Dre aint nothing but hype. He got so many producers around him (Hi-Tek, Mel-man, Dawaun Parker Etc)you dont know what the fuck he does. Dilla was hands on Son!
Really dope tribute documentary. Thank you so much for posting that. I miss J Dilla badly, I know he had so much great music left in him. I’m grateful for his amazing sounds, I will cherish them forever. But when you see the state of the music in 2011, you can only sigh in regret, and think “wish Dilla was still here”.
Happy Birthday J. Dilla….R.I.P.
I didn’t know much about Dilla until he got sick. That’s when he came to my attention. Once I found out about him though…..man! I gained so much respect for dude! I didn’t even know he was behind so many songs I liked. I had seen his name around here and there but wasn’t aware of just how incredible he was! Now that I mess with Royce, Elzhi, Finale, Invincible, Black Milk and that whole scene I feel the love and influence. He touched so many people and really paved a path that’s unparalleled by anyone else. Still Shining really brought just a whole other dimension to his life, his work and the love & passion. He had for his craft & his peers and the love and respect they had for him. Glad I got to see that. Thanx HiphopDx
i was an ignorant lil 13 year old kid at that toronto slum village show in the video. i had no idea who jay dee was but i went along with some older buddies. in the next year or so, i was feelin “climax” and “players” but i didn’t really get that deep into SV. i’m ashamed to say that it wasn’t til dilla died that i realized he produced “stakes is high,” “The light,” “runnin'” and a buncha other favourites of mine. still not sure if i can call dilla my favourite of all time, cuz it was premo who first got me into hip hop, but i definitely put dilla, pete, and premo on a whole ‘nother level from the rest of the competition. dilla’s beats, especially shit like “fall n love” hit me on a much more emotional level than anybody else though
Does everything have to be a debate. Dilla was the best at being Dilla. This is not the time to be making comparisons. That being said, JayDee was your favorite producers favorite producer.
:)THANK U !
DILLA!!!
best to ever do it, most inspiring beat maker I will ever encounter. if pete rock says dilla surpassed him, then thats all you non believers need to hear. man was a legend and will never be replaced. rip my dude!!!
