August Greene – a group comprised of rapper Common and producers Robert Glasper and Karriem Riggins – delivers new visuals for their debut single, “Optimistic,” featuring Brandy.

The single, a cover of the 1991 Sounds of Blackness song of the same name, served as the group’s official debut on January 18. The video, filmed in Mississippi, alternates shots of each of the performers while intertwining scenes of various Mississippi activists throughout. As an added touch, the final moments of the video serve as a tribute to those very same activists.

August Greene’s self-titled debut LP is expected to arrive March 9.
