In a matter of one minute and 32 seconds, JAY-Z’s video for the spoken word track “Dream. On.” paints a vivid portrait of what it was like for the Hip Hop mogul to grow up in Brooklyn’s Marcy Houses.

Beginning with the lines, “Yeah, I’m from where dreamin’ ain’t allowed/ Especially when you’re dreamin’ aloud/ Enough to dream your self-esteem into clouds/ It takes tears, sweat, blood, 5CCs/ ’cause I know what the kid in apartment 5C see,” the cleverly composed vocal track exposes his desire to escape his environment and details his subsequent success.

The video comes ahead of Hov’s annual Made In America festival, which he’ll headline alongside acts like Run The Jewels, Solange and J. Cole. The festival takes place on September 2 and 3 in Philadelphia.
