    1. This is a dope breakdown and thanks. I must have played The Infamous album at least 1 million times. That album has Ghostface and Raekwon on it for goodness sake. During that time the hottest groups and artist were definitely Mobb Deep, Nas, Biggie, Wu Tang, Outkast, Geto Boys, Dre and Snoop, E-40, Bone Thugs N Harmony, A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, and a few others. To put this list in perspective, Prodigy was definitely top 5 of all rappers in that era. I still listen to Prodigy and Alchemist’s Albert Einstein album on a very regular basis. That album is an underrated and grimey hip hop classic. Long Live Prodigy!

      1. Classics after classics shit u still could listen 2 yrs from now, n they catalogue is ridiculous, lets c how many of these mumble so called rappers r still around 10yrs from now??????

    2. Let’s not exaggerate his skills. At the height of mobb deeps fame he was never top 20. Mobb deep isn’t a top 10 group.

      1. Are you joking? The Infamous was one of the greatest albums in hip hop history. Better than any Gang Starr, Tribe, EPMD, Public Enemy or Beasties album. I am NOT saying better than WU. But on par with the Clan. You are right he was not in the top 20 at the height of it all…he was top 5. If you are in your between 30-40 its Ready to Die, Illmatic, Reasonable Doubt, OB4QL and The Infamous…and in no particular order. Nobody was as vivid with lyrics like P. His resume has 20 more years than Biggie and Pac. Its not even close. Please get ready for bed as You must be under 19. Put some Drake on thun.

        1. Prodigy has 20 years in the game. And was good for about 6-8 of those years. Mobb deep feel off in 2004, with one classic album and two okay joints. In the 90s there were at least 30 mcs better than him. His metaphors were B- at best, storytelling C+. And he was as ignorant as you can get. B- minus rapper from a dead era. My opinion though. I respect anyone that doesn’t agree.

          1. His storytelling on The Infamous is some of the greatest ever laid to wax… what is wrong with you? Have you even heard tracks like Temperature’s Rising, Trife Life, Drink Away the Pain etc. Sure, Mobb Deep didn’t release anything groundbreaking in the 2000s and may have fallen off, but in the 90s Prodigy was top 5.

          2. His storytelling on The Infamous is some of the greatest ever laid to wax… what is wrong with you? Have you even heard tracks like Temperature’s Rising, Trife Life, Drink Away the Pain etc. Sure, Mobb Deep didn’t release anything groundbreaking in the 2000s and may have fallen off, but in the 90s Prodigy was top 5………..

            1. I feel you. His stotytelling in infamous was amazing but only on famous. He declined after that.

      2. You are the kind of young adult that listens to pop music like Drake and Migos and have no idea on hip hop history and make ignorant comments on the internet that embarrass you.

        1. Sorry that your era ended old head. It will be my turn one day. I’ll make sure to let young cats live when I’m on deck. No Willie Lynch.

      3. Some lame always has to make some sideways ass comment about one of the greats. One who just passed away at that. It is sad how someone will comment on a video of Prodigy and his legacy and talk about not exaggerating his skills. Then we have an article on how young thug is the next 2pac or how great lil yachty is and these same dudes sit on their hands.

        1. Sorry. Not top 20 from the era. He’s cool not a all time great. It’s disrespectful to mention his name next to the real greats, nas, jay z, 3000, black thought, redman, etc. He’s a half step above keith murray.

          1. He may not be legendary, but dude left his mark. I know your not talking about what is disrespectful after bashing a recently deceased mans legacy on video meant to uplift him. Half step above Kieth Murray? Lol ok..

            1. not a all time great. I’m not disrespecting the man, just reality. He was a good emcee not great. Eli Manning has 2 championships, i would never compare him to an all time great. Prodigy is the eli manning of rap. That’s not bad. He won’t be remembered like pac or big. But he will be remembered.

            2. I respect your opinion. But for the real historians he will be remembered like Big and Pac. P was vivid and was telling stories 20 years longer than Big and Pac. For the mainstream hip hop head my opinion holds no weight. For the true fan it does thats for sure. Big is my guy but lets call it how it is…he had two studio albums only!!!!

            3. I feel you. My homeboy won’t put big in the top 3 because of only having two albums. He puts big around 5 or 6.

    3. Prodigy is easily a top 5 MC from New York, all major rappers from that era have some influence from prodigy in there music. Everyone got there style from him facts.

    4. P made some great music, particularly The Infamous and Hell on Earth, with some of his solo Alchemist-produced jams being dope too. His wordplay was always terrible though (example: “not only is it inside the songs that we sing/ everything is real, not just a song that we sing”). His content was pretty cool, but his ability to put his knowledge into tight bars was never really his strength, it was having amazingly eerie sounding hardcore beats and equally dope choruses that sounded like they were fueled by tons of drugs. It wasn’t really a handicap of his music in the ’90s when the bar hadn’t been set that high yet, and his voice seemed to compliment the music very well, regardless of his lyrics, but after the Infamy album, when his voice got way deeper, he got kinda wack tbh. I know people will bitch about how he was a legend, which I’m not disputing, but I always thought his lyrics were extremely subpar.

      1. Nah man, that ain’t true. I agree with you that Infamy was the turning point in P’s skills, from that album on he got hit and miss lyrically, but on both The Infamous & Hell On Earth P was a beast on the mic, his bars and delivery were deadly back then, nothing subpar about that. And what you mean with”… in the ’90s when the bar hadn’t been set that high yet?”

    5. Prodigy was one of the best MCs to grab the mic. Quotables for days, unique vocal delivery, ice cold/sinister flow. He had it all. There’s a reason he’s one of the most sampled voices in hip hop. P’s influence touched everyone. And now, he joined the rest of his force up in the heavens. Mobb In Paradise, P.
