HipHopDX Premiere: Detroit beatsmith/MC dual threat Nolan The Ninja stopped by the DX office last month for an episode of #DXLive, where he delivered “the best #DXLive freestyle ever,” according to EIC Trent Clark. The 24-year-old artist was in town promoting his latest beat tape, lo-fi flips., and today (February 7), which also happens to be fellow Detroit producer J Dilla’s birthday, follows up with a video for “2 Thou.”

“On the tape, I flipped some of my favorite songs from 2008 and before,” Nolan tells HipHopDX. “In the video, I flipped Keith Murray’s verse from Total’s ‘Can’t You See (Remix)’ and ‘A Little Of This’ by Grand Puba. The Puff Daddy ‘interlude’ is from one of my rare white label records [laughs].”

Directed by AUX Cinema and Mr. Ninja himself, it’s a mash-up of various shows, fans and songs from the project. Check out the video above, revisit the #DXLive episode below and cop the lo-fi flips.here.
