HipHopDX Premiere: Self-described “soul rocker” Evan Taylor Jones has always felt his voice was similar to John Legend’s and believes his songs bring out the best in Jones’ voice. He felt compelled to make a video for his version of Legend’s 2016 single, “Love Me Now,” from Darkness & Light, which features additional contributions from Brazilian rapper Niko Is.Co-directed by Jones and Logan Senechek, the video dives into what life on the road can be like for an artist constantly going from city to city, and meeting a bevy of star-struck women. “I don’t know who’s gonna kiss you when I’m gone/so I’m gonna love you now,” he sings as the uplifting melody moves it along.
“It was nice to have full creative control on the production side of this track and play the instruments,” Jones tells HipHopDX. “The groove could have gone 100 different ways, but I simply wanted to have people dance to this. Keeping it simple definitely won here.”
