HipHopDX Premiere: Veteran West Coast rapper Kokane is normally riding with his homies in the click, Diirty OGz, but behind the scenes, he’s been pushing his latest solo album, King Of G Funk. Today (November 11), he shares the first video from the album, “40 Below” featuring Parliament-Funkadelic legend Bootsy Collins and Gipp Goodie of Goodie Mob fame.
Produced by West Coast Stone, the track is an infectious mix of classic funk and hardcore gangster rap, or “G-Funk,” which was made famous by Dre and Warren G in the early ’90s. Paired with a Southern funk style, it’s explosive from beginning to end.
Kokane, of course, is a true OG and has appeared on albums like N.W.A’s Niggaz4Life, Dr. Dre’s Chronic 2001, and Snoop Dogg’s Last Meal, in addition to countless features throughout his long career. Check out the video above and get down with the P-Funk.
