As the first signee to Snoop Dogg’s revamped Doggystyle Records, Jooba Loc is blasting off with a new video for “Hop Out” featuring YG, the first single from the Long Beach recording artist’s debut album, Only Way Out. The video details the often brutal turf war between Bloods and Crips, and how Snoop Dogg pulled him out of a dangerous lifestyle to focus on making music with him.
The 19-year-old Jooba addressed the gang topic when he stopped by the HipHopDX offices in May, and explained how he got over the Bloods vs. Crips stigma. He said he’s cool with Vince Staples, but their neighborhoods “don’t get along.”
Jooba first appeared as part of Snoop Dogg’s LBC Movement, a collective of Long Beach artists representing every corner of the city. Jooba stood out due to his unique delivery on every track that he touched.
“Originally we were supposed to just cut one track, but once we were in the studio we just kept going, it was crazy because I’d come into the studio and lay down some bars,” said Jooba in a press release. “I’d leave and when I would come back, Snoop had created a whole different song from it. Snoop showed me how to put together a complete song, not just some bars and a hook.”
