Los Angeles-based MC Open Mike Eagle pens his astute observations on being a Black man in the Paul White-produced song, “Smiling (Quirky Race Doc).”

“No one smiles at me because I’m a Black man until the show starts,” he spits.

Directed by Alex Clark and edited by Ryan Calavano, the video for “Smiling” follows Mike through the New York City streets, where he encounters judgment after judgment. The song comes from Mike’s latest album, Hella Personal Film Festival.
