“In My City…” is city-based video series that will examine Hip Hop culture in smaller US markets. It begs the question, what happens to the people in the middle? What is the underlying culture of cities like San Antonio? What do artists from Denver sound like and where do they find their influences? What do Indianapolis radio stations play and do they support local artists? What is the history behind how bigger artists from Minneapolis have gained worldwide notoriety? What is the Hip Hop scene like in the cities we overlook?
In My City: Denver episode 1 introduces Top Flite Empire as one of Denver’s emerging Hip Hop groups.
Episode 2 introduces the city of Denver, gives a peek into their local Hip Hop scene, and exposes many of the difficulties independent artists face. Super producer Dem Jointz (known for his work on Dr. Dre’s “Compton” and Janet Jackson’s “Unbreakable”) speaks on working with Top Flite Empire on their next project and being one of the first major producers to work with Denver’s local scene.
In the final episode of the series, we discuss how the legalization of recreational and medicinal marijuana has had a direct impact on Denver’s Hip Hop scene. Also, Top Flite Empire further describes the pros and cons of being from a smaller market, how they plan to make a major impact, and the importance of teamwork.
