    1. What a timeless classic. The quintessential epitome of real hip hop in that era. This was an album that really defined the emcee and what it meant to be lyrically superior where competition at that time was fierce. So many emcees in those years took pride in their lyrical superiority vs just making a quick buck. The scene in 98 was fierce, you had cats really competing for the best overall emcee and kweli and most Def really set the bar high for the conscious cats. This is a lyrical Basquiat or a Warhol, timeless and will always be considered a hip hop masterpiece. Maybe I’m too nostalgic but I can’t see anyone creating art not only like blackstar but that entire year of 1998
