“The Giving Tree,” serves as the first installment of All Def Digital’s new series “The Signal.”

“The Giving Tree”, directed by Durgans, takes it’s name and metaphoric value from the popular children’s story by Shel Silverstein. The video serves as a mission statement for the risk an artist is willing to take to maintain individuality. “When I die, and they bury me in earth, I just hope a greater plant was planted first, so you can take from me, so you can take from me, so you can take from me.” raps Durgans on the hook. “The Signal” is a series of music videos from up and coming artists curated by All Def Digital.  “The Giving Tree” will appear on his forthcoming Swim Team EP, due out in early November 2014.

Khary also dropped the title track to the upcoming EP, “Swim Team.” The track featured Rome Fortune and was produced by Mike Irish. Check it out below.

“The song started with Mike Irish wanting to produce a track for me and Rome back in May. Mike and I had no clue we were going to even make an EP at this point, so I think the song inspired the project haha. It’s pretty left field from what I normally do so I enjoyed the challenge and Rome jumped on it like light work. My last project had a bit more of a humble tone and it went under the radar of a lot of people, so I made a song to get out that aggression.” – Khary Durgans

What inspires you to create music?

I’m still trying to figure this out really. I think might be the ability to entertain people while I try to figure out things in life because I think that’s what it’s all about when I think about it. We are all just trying to figure shit out.

A lot of people say to be the “best” rapper but I don’t think there is such a thing at this point. I just want to be dope, contribute to the culture, and let the world decide the value of my legacy.

What makes you different from other artists?
