It’s been a year since we’ve heard new music from CyHi The Prynce. While 2013 brought us the DJ Holiday hosted Ivy League: Kick Back, there was another mixtape in the vault that never saw the light of day. To give fans what they want, CyHi delivers “Napoleon,” a track-turned-video from the unreleased project, produced by M16. The video, directed by Shawny Ocho & Famo Since 1991, is more of a short film than merely a music video. Shot in a (as CyHi puts it) “dope and scenic” forest in Alpharetta, Georgia, the video shows CyHi in a number of costume changes that all share a similar sentiment: he’s ready for combat.

“I really wanted a scenic, somewhat dark look to tie into the Napoleon Bonaparte concept,” CyHi explains exclusively to HipHopDX of the video’s concept. “Having the black horse was the key. Really it’s a dope visual aesthetic to compliment the lyricism in this song.” The rapper approached the video team with the idea and together they brought it to life. His wardrobe varies from a camouflage ski mask to a karakul hat, which CyHi likens to Eddie Murphy’s princely garb in the classic film Coming To America.

While “Napoleon” is more of an effort to sate fans, there is much more in store for The Fresh Prynce. “I want to release a few mixtapes and then focus on my first album,” he says. As he readies his first full-length project, CyHi names Kanye West as the Executive Producer. “We’re been working on all this new music,” he says, as he’s working very closely with West. “I’ve been writing a lot.” Kanye spoke about CyHi in an interview with Atlanta’s V-103 Greg Street, where he details taking CyHi under his wing (check out the video here).
