Not getting defensive, I just don’t agree that he’s like every other commercial rapper… he’s more lyrical than a lot of them and way more honest and human, his music is infinitely more focused on the complexities of fame than just bragging. And he’s not a problem for hip-hop at all, if you don’t like him you don’t have to listen to him or comment on his vids.
That said, as a general comment, this is still one of my least fave Drake tracks.. I don’t see why people enjoy that hook and some of the rhymes are just corny. But the vid makes it better, don’t understand how it doesn’t fit the song like some are saying.

I think the reason why so many people don’t feel Drake is because a lot of them haven’t heard Comeback Season. The reason why heads give the guy so much props is not because he is with Young Money or because he sings, it’s because the dude was FIRE in Comeback Season and Room for Improvement. He has proven his lyrical prowess a thousand times over in his underground days. Regardless of all that, how can you listen to the rap tracks on So Far Gone and say the dude can’t spit?

There’s a reason why legends like Little Brother and Slum Village have worked with him in the past, it’s cause the dude got skills. I think the reason why so many people don’t feel Drake is because a lot of them haven’t heard Comeback Season. The reason why heads give the guy so much props is not because he is with Young Money or because he sings, it’s because the dude was FIRE in Comeback Season and Room for Improvement. He has proven his lyrical prowess a thousand times over in his underground days. Regardless of all that, how can you listen to the rap tracks on So Far Gone and say the dude can’t spit?
To the people who say he only talks about money and women, you haven’t been listening, period. There’s a reason why legends like Little Brother and Slum Village have worked with him in the past, it’s cause the dude got skills. And to all the people who say he’s not Hip-Hop just because he sings, don’t forget that Phonte from Little Brother put out a whole damn R&B album where he rapped on only one verse on the whole record. Do we still call him an emcee? Of course we do, it would be stupid not to.
I will say though that he’s been getting lazy on some of these new singles. This track is still hot to me, but he could have done way better. This new thing of emphasizing a word to show the connection to the line before is getting old. Like, “teach you how to speak my language, ROSETTA STONE.” I’m getting tired of that. I hope he brings back the energy from So Far Gone and Comeback Season on his new joint, which I have a feeling he will.

i don’t hate drake. in fact, i bought into the hype last summer, bumped his EP and mixtape shit and all that. but the more i listen, the more it sounds the same. i compare drake to fab when he first came out. all style, no substance. now that fab has more life experiences to draw from, he’s much iller. hopefully, as time goes by, drizzy will find more to talk about. i appreciate songs like “successful” much more than his cuts that dominate the radio now. he is definitely nice but, in my opinion, would be much nicer if he dug a little deeper than the superficial.
