HipHopDX Premiere: On what would have been Dick Gregory’s 85th birthday, PE 2.0’s Jahi has dropped a tribute to the late comedian/activist simply titled “Dick Gregory.” Gregory passed away from heart failure on August 19 and countless Hip Hop artists expressed their condolences, including Chuck D, David Banner, Just Blaze and Q-Tip.
“Dick Gregory was and is a giant because of his activism, his courage and his ability to make us laugh, even at things that were funny but also had deeper meanings,” Jahi tells HipHopDX. “And he was the first black man I knew who ran for president, as my uncle’s talked about him a lot. The role of an artist in my view is to pay tribute to great men and Dick Gregory was one. Salute and maximize respect to his family and legacy. RIP.”
