HipHopDX Premiere: Taken from the upcoming album, The Emancipation Procrastination,Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah’s “AvengHer” provides a slice of what to expect from the new project.

Highlighted by delicate notes from a horn and downtempo beats, the track is an eclectic and layered instrumental. Better yet, there’s a deeper meaning behind the song, which the New Orleans native describes as a combo of modern trap music and ’60s jazz.

“’AvengHer’ started with me thinking about how to eradicate gender inequality,” Scott explains to HipHopDX. “There’s this notion that we have to fully agree with the issues of a given community to stand for them. It seems to me that there’s a distorted sense of tribalism that is growing and I wanted to speak on it.

“Have you ever seen a group of men discussing pay inequality or the tenets of maternity leave? Why not? Sonically, ‘AvengHer’ grabs its rhythmic basis from merging trap beats with the palindromic rhythmic vernacular of Roy Haynes and Elvin Jones. It’s a perfect blend of modern trap music and ’60s Jazz (or Revolution Music).”

The Emancipation Procrastination is expected to arrive on October 20 via Ropeadope Records.
