Instrumental outfit El Michels Affair has shared the first offering from Return To The 37th Chamber, its highly anticipated follow up to 2009’s underground cult classic, Enter The 37th Chamber, an album solely comprised of reinterpretations of classic Wu-Tang Clan tracks. Titled “Tearz,” the track is the group’s version of the 1993 Wu-Tang song of the same name and also features Lee Fields and The Shacks.
Producer and bandleader Leon Michels recorded the album completely analog, sometimes hitting six generations of tape before it was ready for mixing, giving the Return to The 37th Chamber its unique, hazy sound. Return To The 37th Chamber is scheduled for an April 14 release via Big Crown Records, El Michels Affairs’ own imprint. Check out the song above and revisit the original below.
